BIBLIOTECA DI COMPAGNI library in rome
Rome, Italy
The Biblioteca di Compagni began as a design for the people of Rome. It is located in a plaza that is often visited by many tourists throughout the year. There are cafes, shops, a fountain in the center of the plaza, and the Pantheon is directly across from the site of the library. It was important for the library to be a focal point of the plaza due to the fact that it was for the people of Rome. But, the library also needed to relate to the surrounding context. The concept behind the design was to play with geometric shapes in order to contrast the circular shape of the Pantheon.
LIVE WORK industrial arts center
Cincinnati, Ohio
An Industrial Arts Center in Cincinnati would serve as a neighbor hood/ community where residents can both live and work. There will be a workshop area where artists can go to create and use any machinery that is available to them. And there are some residences where people are able to live above an area where they can sell their items. The city of Cincinnati is full of history and the design called for a place that was contextual and seemed to be a part of the city for many years prior. The Industrial Arts Center offers many things already seen in the city, such as a market and shops to browse through.

KENSINGTON PARK LIBRARY a live oak branch
Savannah, Georgia
The Kensington Park Library is to consist of a Special Collections area. Due to Savannah’s rich history and constant new discoveries that are being unearthed about the city, it is only fitting to have the Special Collections be Archaeology. Archaeology is similar to architecture in that each rely on a datum and grid. These elements help both archaeologists and architects plan a design and site. The idea of archaeology also inspired the type of structure to be used throughout the design. The heavy timber construction gives the library a rustic and earthy feel that organizes the spaces.

PRIVATE RESIDENCE a place for Laurie Anderson
New York
The private residence for Laurie Anderson is a place that will allow for her to get away from the “public eye and the media. She recently lost her husband, Lou Reed, so a private place of her own outside of New York City is exactly what she needs. Laurie Anderson is a very eccentric person who is a per formance artist. Throughout the 1980’s she designed and put on performances that were very advanced for the times. She incorporated technology in a way that had never been done before. So, the design of her private residence incorporates these different aspects and also allows for her to continue to create.
HOTEL LOBBY a whirling dervish concept
Istanbul, Turkey
The Whirling Dervishes are a part of the Muslim and Turkish culture. A ceremony is performed, which is a beautiful sight to see and one that should be witnesses when visiting Istanbul. Their movements are fluid and simple. These fluid and simple movements inspired the floor plan and fixtures throughout the hotel lobby. Also, the steps of the ceremony allow for a progression through the space that takes visitors from one space to another in a fluid motion.
