THE WALKABLE CITY Located in Port Marianne, one of the newest quarter of Montpellier, the project has to consider the current issues of a mediterranean city. The idea is to promote the relationships overseas by creating a smart campus for environmental research. Last but not least, this project is aiming to generate ties and cooperation on the scale of the city. The program has 3 main points which are the education (university of foreign relations), the research (research laboratories and startups working on environmental issues) and the culture (museums and libraries about Latin culture). The basis of the urban strategy is to design dynamic pathways that generate the built-up space. Therefore, citizens’ walks are the core of this framework. Then, architecture serves the outdoor spaces because of a huge consideration for ground floors which provide squares or shops for a lively environment. LANDSCAPE Since the terrible earthquake which hit Japan in 2011, Sendai coastal area became a no-building zone. However, in order to recreate links between the sea and inhabitants of the area, architects can still work on landscape projects. Creating a project on Sendai’s coastal area means providing a protective layout along the seaside. The aim of this research project was to combine both the safety and the social issues. This project is a 1km long promenade through the forest belt. Shuttle bus could bring people until the car park then everything is a pedestrian an bike walkway.
16
The first idea was to design a safe long line toward the sea which can be used as an emergency road in case of another disaster. Then, the concept was to find a way to increase attractiveness of this simple pathway. It is the reason why many functions have been added all along the promenade. Thus, people can enjoy stages for concert, playgrounds for children or sport facilities. Each of these equipments is reachable from smaller routes which are all connected to the main walkway. EPHEMERAL The exercice is to imagine a lightweight and ephemeral installation which is able to provide multiple purposes for users. It is a three-stages reflection. The first stape is to generate a movement growing directly from the ground. By using a simple triangular module and repeating it, a topography is created. People can play on these ground deformations, walk on it or just have a seat, leaning against a module and stay there to enjoy the park. The second stape is an evolution of the creating shape in order to create a

limit. Modules grow up gradually along pedestrian traffic, separating it from the grass area. As the using structure is triangular, the limit is not absolutly nontransparent and people can look at the other side of it. In the final stape, a perforation of the bigger modules allowed users to cross them as a sheltered passage. The wooden structure is striated in order to allow in daylight and fresh air. MASTER’s THESIS Urban walks in the French New Wave’s movies : How to highlight the relationship between itineraries/ fragments/symbols in the city ? The aim of this research is to question the symbols of any urban environment for any city dweller. These symbols are very subjective and the French New Wave’s movie makers seem like they really understood this important point. It is the reason why their works has been the starting point of this research. Architecture takes place in an environment that certainly includes human beings. This is the reason why architects and urbanists need to understand the emotional attachment of people to their built environment. Considering this attachment could be the key for designing more livable cities. In addition to the theoretical aspect of my Master’s thesis, I decided to experiment by making a short movie. I followed and filmed some citizens while they were walking down the streets. Then, I interviewed them and requested them to draw a mind map of their itinerary in order to create a subjective overview of Montpellier. The filming part was a very spontaneous work. I didn’t decide in advance what elements to film. In this manner, the film editing became an analysing process. Thus, the framework of the movie is a transcription of my understanding regarding the participants drifts. Eventually, the cinema appears to be a remarkable tool in an analysing and representative process. Using it clarified my theoretical reflection. I believe that a theorical and an experimental approaches must supplement one another in any creative process, especially in an urban design process. WORKSHOP CINEMA In February 2014, the National Architecture School of Montpellier hosted a Workshop about architecture and cinema organized by Gui Jourdan. The aim of this workshop was to express an architectural vision through a short movie. The set decoration was the city itself. We had to explain our architectural intentions for the futur of Montpellier, although we could only use current pieces of the city. With my coworker, Marine Gerbet, we decided to focus on poeple. I our opinion future urban planners and architects should set their hearts on the human scale. The purpose was to express a sense of fears associated with agoraphobia in order to show how the cities’ frameworks can affect people feelings. SENSITIVE ANALYSIS Architects have to consider the emotions that are transmitted by the site. Sensitive analyses are very useful to understand each specificity of any place. The purpose of this animation was to convey the peaceful feeling of my Bachelor’s degree building site. The atmosphere of this place is very diferent from usual cities’ atmospheres.

SYMPOSIUM MDS 2017 Each year since 2009, the students of Métropoles du Sud (South Metropolis) organize the Symposium, a cultural event in Montpellier. The ninth edition was held the 21st January of 2017 at the Botanical Institute of Montpellier. As a member of the photos and videos team, I was in charge of the making of the trailer.
50
ENSAM - Fall 2016 - Under the leadership of NBJ Architects Film projection at Institut Botanique Montpellier The aim was to introduce Métropoles du Sud’s study field and to highligh the students’ investment. This is the reason why we decided to film the work sessions and we gave an authentic look to the movie.
