Living the Dream An Interview with Marjorie Renner 49
esigner Marjorie Renner has spent years traveling the world and dazzling us with her fashionable accessories, but most notably her handbags. Each bag is inspired by all things natural, including seashells, mother-ofpearl, animal pelts and tropical woods. We sat down with Marjorie to hear more about her designs, feelings on family, and what she attributes to her phenomenal success! Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you originally from? What does your business produce? How long have you been in Paris? I am Filipino - American and I moved to Paris in June 2010. Prior to that I have lived in Manila, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles and Beijing. Marjorie Renner is a Parisbased brand for accessories (fashion jewelries, clutches, and handbags).
My exposure to fashion started as a model when I was 18 years old - I was exposed to so many countries and fashion designers that opened my eyes to style - this was in the late 80s HIP HOP fashion and early 90s CHIC fashion. Karl Lagerfeld is the ultimate icon in the fashion industry. He has a vision of style and fashion.
What makes your handbags different from other designs on the market?
What made you move to Paris?
The uniqueness of materials and craftmanship. My collections are all handcrafted using the natural indigenous elements from the Philippines and other parts of Asia.

How did you get your start in fashion? Who is your favorite designer?

FAMILY is the foremost reason for moving to Paris. My husband, Chris Renner, has been in the sports industry and his job brought him to Paris and elsewhere around the world. As an obedient wife and a mother of three children, I am the glue to the family. We can not live without each other.

hen Victoire de Charette was growing up in and around Paris, she always drew, and painted too. But she never really had a sense of the Paris art scene.
Meanwhile, Pauline Daniez was growing up in the lovely Bordeaux region of Charente-Maritime. She too, loved drawing, and art and eventually did a stint at the École du Louvre.
She did however do her studies in the liberal arts, with a focus on literature.
Yet her entry to the Paris art scene was bittersweet. “I mean, Paris always made me dream, but when I arrived I knew no one.
Ironically, it wasn’t until she did a six-month internship in Berlin that she began to have ideas about where her love of art might lead her. It was while in Berlin that she felt and saw how much closer contemporary art could be to the people who love it out of the sterile gallery environment and into spontaneous galleries created in multipurpose spaces, squats, and on building walls of a gritty urban core.
The world I landed in was very intellectually and aesthetically sophisticated – but very lonely,” says Daniez. “I got to walk the Pont des Arts to go to school at the Louvre every day. And eventually I did get to know Paris, and Parisians, thanks to my love of art.”
