1

BASIC DESIGN Semester I, 2014

SITE AND PROGRAM • A studio for Ektara (folk instrument of Punjab) player, in the middle of fields of Punjab, across the stream . •

PROCESS • 4 slices across a 20x20xcm cube. Where 20cm=3m. • Derived a built form by sliding fragmented parts of cube within 4 moves in a defined order. • Explored structural system. • Derived a color palatte in response to site. • Rigorous model making.

MIXINGCOLORS

BY POINTALISM TRANQUILITYOFBLUE BYPRAYERWHEEL VALUESOFAHUE BYLIGHT

• Generated a built form by process of substraction from repeated 3mx3m modules, considering movement in space. • Discerned 3 attributes of Colour Science and designed a space/spaces around it. • Approach: 1.Pointalism:The Punctures(in close proximity) on wall has red and yellow tinted glasses signifying colour mixing by method of pointalism. 2.Tranquil: Symbolic representation of tranquility of prayer wheels by using different shades of blue on consecutive columns. These columns rotate one followed by the other, creating a wave like feeling. 3. A space with tilted mirrors, recieving natural light and its reflection creates different values of grey.

FRAIL STRUCTURE IN TENSION CHARACTER DEPLETING

• Discermed 3 attributes (Feel, Stucture, Character)of the surface from visual information. • Represented these attributes in a frame of 20cmx20cm using appropriate materials. • Material used: Ballons and metal wires. • Using the geometry offered by ballon after cutting it open, and hence stretching it out to different points in a predetermined order. • Repeating it to get a certain geometry, informing the feel, structure and character of surface.

I want to learn different design processes, different design philosophies and develop an understanding of designer’s role for bigger change in society. A traveller. A thinker in making.
