August 9 is Women’s Day August is Women’s month. We may ask ourselves how relevant this is. After all, we have an extremely progressive constitution guaranteeing the rights of us all and even specifying certain areas. It is difficult to talk Women’s Month without having the input from some remarkable women. We have highlighted it all by the story of Poppie Nongema and an interview with our own Sybil. That is where we put in a discussion of where it all came from and the background. Without that, we might end up with a ‘Mother’s Day’ instead. A Mother’s Day that is full of well-wishes but has no teeth. Women’s Day is coming from a background of struggle and we decide how much ‘teeth’ we want it to have. That, we believe, can only propel our society forward although it might be painful.
