On the occasion of the semester of Presidency for Italy at the European Union Giovani nel Mondo association proposes a summer school on European Union in order to further involve young people in a discussion about the future of Europe in terms of institutional structure and future policies and approaches.

Who For?

This programme is intended for students and young professionals who wish to broaden their knowledge of the European Institutions, European Law and in general European decisionmaking process. Applications are open to students and graduates with different backgrounds. Summer schools have proven to be a great help in preparing for the EU competitions to select future staff so our programme is open also to graduates interested in finding a job in the EU institutions.

Structure

The Summer School You and the EU is practice-oriented so each module will be organized not only with frontal classes but also with study visit at the EU institutions and representatives in Rome, practical workshops, simulations games and debating sessions with EU parliamentarians.

Scholarships:

3 Full scholarships available for the most deserving candidates, in order to apply for scholarship candidates have to send a certificate of English proficiency (at least C1 level), a resume in English and an essay 1 page long about YOU and the EU to info@carriereinternazionali.com . Learning objectives

Participants will learn and acquire competencies on: - European law, EU institutions, EU history - Speech and Public Speaking - Editing of research papers, articles and official EU documents - Rules of Procedure of EU institutions - Debating

Excursion and social activities

The programme will be full of social activities and excursion like visit at institutional buildings, visit of historical places, cultural dinners, parties, swimming and bike tour.

Accommodation

Participants will be accommodated in the 4 stars category Hotel Sheraton Golf Parco de’ Medici in double rooms with meals included.

Welcome and Introduction by Giovani nel Mondo Association and its partners Class I General Introduction of EU Institutions- Workshop with the Italian Permanent Mission to the European Parliament Welcome dinner at the Sheraton Hotel

Tuesday 22 July

Class II The EU treaties and their evolution by Experts of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lunch at Villa Borghese Tour of Rome From the Colosseum and Fori Imperiali to the Treaty of Rome (Campidoglio Palazzo dei Conservatori) Dinner in the city centre


Wednesday 23 July

Class III Workshop about the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights with professors of European Law and Experts from the European Court of Justice Moot Court simulation Sport activities Dinner

Thursday 24 July

Study Visit at the European Commission and European Parliament office for Italy in Rome Lunch in the city centre Class IV: EU decision-making process with professors and experts from the European Parliament and the European Commission Dinner

Friday 25 July

Class V: Debate among Youth and EU parliamentarians (EU enlargement and Monetary Union) Swimming Pool Lunch Workshop: how to work in the EU institutions (Internships and Stage at the EU-SVE-Exchange Programmes-Erasmus Plus- Leonardo and NGOs) Dinner

Saturday 26 July

ELSA (The European Law Students’ Association) is an international, independent, non-political, non-profit making organisation run by and for students. It is comprised of students and recent graduates who are interested in academic and personal excellence in addition to their studies at their universities. ELSA offers law students a perfect platform to develop their existing skills, acquire new skills and meet fellow students and legal professionals throughout Europe.
