Pacquiao’s bid for an Olympic berth begins
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) is holding out hope that Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will be allowed to compete in the Paris Olympics.
POC president Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino announced that the organization has sent a request to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for Pacquiao to gain a spot in Paris using the universality principle.
Athletes from
countries who have difficulty qualifying for the Olympics through traditional means are typically given universality spots.
However, the POC and the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) are hoping that Pacquiao, who last competed in the welterweight division, will be granted an exception.

Badminton evolved from a Chinese game of the 5th century BC called tijian zi that involved kicking the shuttle. A later version of the sports was played in ancient Greece and India with rackets rather than with feet. A similar game called or jeu de volant, appeared rope during the 1600s.
British army offi brought a revised of the back to Britain from India in 19th century. In 1873 the duke of fort introduced the game to royal ty at his country estate, Badminton House, and the sport became known as badminton. Four years later the Bath Badminton Club was founded. The version played by its members forms the basis for today’s game.
Badminton soon spread beyond Britain to the rest of Europe and to countries throughout the world. It became especially popular in Asia and North America. The only major change through the years was in playing equipment, as light weight rackets made of aluminum gradually replaced wooden models.
Badminton’s first championships were
held in 1977. Denmark’s Flemming
Koppen won men’s and women’s single titles, respectively. Since then, East Asian nations- primarily China and Indonesia have dominated professional badminIn both countries, lar as basketball is in the United States or soccer is in the Britain. Spectators at matches typically sing, chant, and cheer for their favorite players or teams.

Pres. Marcos tells Brgy. Officials: Be honest, put people first
-Keziah Marie Buison
Elected Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials should be honest at all times and prioritize the welfare of their constituents, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said a day after the long-awaited polls.
“This is a new opportunity to serve Filipinos and our country with all our heart and to the best of our abilities,” Marcos said in Filipino.
“Let us be honest at all times. Let us always prioritize the welfare of our people because they are the reason why we want to serve,” he added.
On election day, Marcos said that village polls play a “crucial” role in shaping the national political landscape. Political parties strategically utilize barangay posts to establish grassroots power bases.
“As a national politician, I always say that of all the elected officials, it is the barangay officials who can actually tell you, ‘I will deliver this many votes,’” Marcos said.

Reading and Numeracy Parade draws atttention
-Cyrus Fernandez
In adherence to Division Memorandum no. 358 or School Motorcade on Project Upgrading Performance (UP) and to forge strong partnership among internal and external stakeholders, a showcase of different learning innovations was displayed through a parade held on October 13, 2023.
The first-ever parade for a cause drew attention among parents and learners as they gestured appreciation by waving their hands, giving smiles, and shouting the school
mantra as the motorcade approaches their homes. Through this activity, parents will become aware on how the school give importance on the literacy and numeracy of the learners.
Libas ES supports MATATAG Agenda
To ensure quality education for all learners of Libas ES as well as in the whole division of the Department of Education, Libas ES is taking the very significant lead to support the program/agenda for Basic Education through MATATAG: Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa.
This program aims to foster a sense of patriotism, harwork, discipline, integrity, resiliency, quality, access and equality among learners.
During the faculty meeting, School Principal Wilson C. Dela Cruz, stressed out to the teachers the importance in promoting these core values to be instilled in the hearts and minds of every learner since this is a very crucial factor in molding and shaping their characters to be enable them to face the challenges they may encounter.
“I would love to see a good implementation of this but I think it might take a while to see the results,” Mr. Darlie Diaz, a Grade 5 teacher said. He also noted his expectations for the initiatives in schools, explaining that there may be some initial challenges and adjustments, such as the need for additional resiurces, materials and infrastructure.
“However, if implemented effectively, the K-12 reform and DepEd MATATAG agenda can lead to improvements in the quality of education and better outcomes for learners and teachers as well,” Diaz stated.
As an answer to improve educational crisis in the Philippines, he added that it is worth noting that fixing the education crisis in the country is a complex and long-term process that requires a multi-faceted approach.
“Everyone should work hand in hand to really improve and make an impact in our educational system. A lot of plans and putting them into reality should be made
in order to put muscle of this mission,” Mrs. Imelda De Vera, Master Teacher I exclaimed.
“We will support every activity and program for the sake of our Libasian learners,” uttered by Mrs. Alma Agbuya, SPTA President.
“We will rally for an improved learning system in the country. Together, we will rally for every Filipino child. Para sa isang MATATAG na Bayan. Para sa ating mahal na Pilipinas,” Sarah Duterte emphasized during a presscon.
Children hope 23600 planted trees to save Earth

“The seedlings we planted, though still small, can help combat global warming . And as our teacher said we should take care of them so that when we grow, we can also see those trees grow,’ said Grade 6 Rageon Naz Nalasa in Filipino.
“This activity develops the love for our nature among our learners and make them realize the importance of trees,” said Mr. Darlie Diaz, a Grade 5 Teacher.
Libasian learners and teachers show preparedness to earthquake
Learners, faculty & staff joined the simultaneous National Earth Quake drill held last November 9, 2023.
This event was held to prepare the learners and teachers just in case any disaster occurs. During the drill, the learners and faculty members simulated the drills and documented by Mrs. Maricel Orito, DRRM coordinator.
The DROP procedure was executed which indicated that the learners should performed the duck position, cover and hold their heads to protect themselves from falling debris.
Mrs. Orito emphasized to the learners that they should take the drill seriously and familiarized themselves of the things before, during and after earthquake in order for them to be equipped with the knowledge and skills for their own good.
Aside from demonstrating the school’s preparedness, teachers have also perennially equipped learners of the proper response before, during and after an earthquake through lesson integration across learning areas.

DOST-ASTI launches feature-rich PhilSensors app
Meteorological Data Acquisition Stations for Information Dissemination (MASID) team of the Department of Science and Technology – Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) launched the PhilSensors application to expand services available on their website, September 8.
“What pushed the development of the app is the ease-of-use for end-users,” MASID visualization team lead Jeanette Carlos said. With the app, it’s now easy for the users to check the rainfall and water level conditions of their destinations. This is also helpful for rescuers and local disaster risk reduction management officers to see what the situation is in certain areas during disasters.
Features of the app include searching specific and nearby sensors/stations (collectively known as PhilSensors); as well as viewing map layers such as rainfall, water level, wind, air temperature, and air pressure data. Users can also manage their favorite PhilSensors and have notifications sent to their phones for events like heavy rains, high temperatures, and changes in water levels.
This release is currently only available for Android users on the Google Play Store, but Apple users can look out for a potential iOS launch soon.

Small bites can kill
By Angel M. Gardose
They are so diminutive but they could bite as much as the effect of a lion’s bite or even worse. Devastating most of the tropical countries in the world like Philippines, female Aedes Aegyptis, the dengue fever carrier are so little but their bite could be worse than a bite of a huge fanged animal.
Little as they are, one’s chance of knowing if one is bitten is as little as their size. Though creatures can be recognized only by white markings on legs and a marking in the form of a lyre on the thorax, there are ways on how to stay away from these six - legged blood sucking and dengue causing villain. Since these female mosquitoes usually bite at any time during the day - especially indoors, in shady areas or
when the weather is cloudy, we may opt to avoid dusk and dawn activities. We can search and destroy their preferred breeding areas where stagnant water is abundant like flower vase and clogged canals. As self protection we can wear long - sleeved clothing and long trousers when out–doors during the day and evening. If our house is not air - conditioned or screened, mosquito nettings are of big help.
All of these are covered by the Department of Health’s 4S strategies in destroying as well as protecting one self from the little but dangerous bites that could put our life to danger.
As this result gives impact to the society, We Libasian learners should not only appreciate the effort that our teachers are doing but also put into heart and strive more to learn better.
EPISA Ranking: A Continuing Concern for Education Stakeholders
ducation stakeholders have been aware of the Philippines’ poor ranking for years, and the latest PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) results only confirm the gravity of the problem. In 2018, the first time the Philippines participated in the PISA, its 15-year-old students ranked at the bottom in reading comprehension and second-lowest in science and mathematics among 79 participating countries and economies.
In the most recent PISA assessment by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Philippines ranked 76th among 81 participating countries and economies. The country’s average scores for reading, math and science remained below the global average, though there were marginal improvements in math and reading scores from the 2018 assessment. However, these scores were still lower than the average in OECD countries. The Philippines ranked third to last in mean science performance, underlining the need for immediate action to improve the country’s education system.
Another critical issue that demands attention is the dearth of emphasis on critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the Philippine education system. While the country has demonstrated improvement, its focus has been primarily on rote memorization and learning, with less attention paid to cultivating these essential abilities.
To continue making strides, the Philippines must prioritize education and the needs of students in rural areas. It must also pivot its educational focus to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in its students. With the right policies, the Philippines can continue to progress and ensure that all students receive an equitable and quality education.
As this result gives impact to the society, We Libasian learners should not only appreciate the effort that our teachers are doing but also put into heart and strive more to learn better.

Dear

Segregation of biodegradable to non-biodegradable ones is the solution of the School Elementary Learners Governace (SELG) to the rising problem of proper waste disposal on our campus.
This project showed good responses with regards
Every learner should know that schools are designed for teaching and learning and nice-looking facilities are the key components to a learning environment. Our minds should be open regarding the sanitation of our school but it seems that some learners aren’t responsible enough. Some of them were throwing their garbages in some areas of school especially in gymnasium. That’s why I’m writing to state my concern about this situation.

of the pupil’s discipline, which is the main focus of the SPG. Some of the pupils learned how to segregate their trash and dispose it properly.
Each grade level even has three kinds of garbage bin, the biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and the recyclable. The idea of separating trash according to its type is good as it is. It doesn’t require a large amount of budget, it
is pupil friendly, and easy to do. It’s inevitable to leave our trash unwarily, it’s just a drop of self-awareness and proper implementation to succeed in keeping our environment clean.
But in order for it to happen, it requires effort and self-discipline, since change will always start within us, ourselves. We should always think what is best for our school.

Dear Clarette, Thank you for taking the chance of writing to us. Waste disposal is a never-ending problem in our school. To be honest, none can actually be done to change our situation except for changing the learner’s attitude towards proper waste disposal. In terms of ordinances, we have so many. From the city to the school level, we have several ordinances regarding waste disposal. For us to achieve cleanliness in our campus, one must discipline himself to throw his trash properly. -The Editor

Children in schools are not far from the whips of the internet. There are some who are well-oriented on how to use social media apps and are using it daily. They are the same kids who are prone to the influence of fake news.
Teachers give us advice that we should be responsible on what we read on social media so that we will not be victimized with
false articles. This in general may change our perspective of how we view things, much more that we are in an age which we can easily be influenced. We may not be very good in identifying fake news but I think parents should guide kids like me when using social media. Not wasting any time, on his first day of office as the school principal, Mr. Wilson C. Dela Cruz immediately discussed a run-down of things that he hopes to see among teachers, learners and
staff. On top of his list is the systematic and orderliness in the school. From the basic waste segregation to the round the clock classroom inspection, such practice is well-implemented Moreover, clear communication and properly documented transactions are some other facets that
he looked into. He believes that transparency will lead to better transactions inside and outside the school.
