Yes, us, AGAIN!!! We are Zeus and Perseus and we have been waiting forever, getting closer and closer to being in rescue a year already! We are a pair of adult male piggies and have gotten to enjoy life in several different foster homes. We are very handsome, but Perseus is also a little shy. We would like a home with lots of space to play and run as we are energetic young bucks.

Tuna and Catnip Kitty Treats

www.thevatruthkilleen.com Source: https://www.dailypaws.com/catskittens/cat-nutrition/homemade-cat-food/ tuna-catnip-cat-treats-recipe

Ingredient Checklist 2 5-ounce cans solid light tuna packed in oil, drained well* 2 egg whites 1 teaspoon dried catnip Directions Instructions Checklist Step 1 Preheat oven to 325°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside. Step 2 In a large bowl, beat egg whites with an electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form (tips stand straight). Step 3 In a food processor or blender, combine tuna, 1/4 cup beaten egg white, and catnip. Cover and process or blend until completely smooth (keep the machine going; it will get there). Gently fold tuna mixture into remaining beaten egg white until just combined. Step 4 Transfer mixture to a piping bag fitted with a 1/4- to 1/2-inch round or star tip. Pipe 3/4-inch dollops onto the prepared baking sheet. Step 5 Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until dried and treats easily release from the parchment. Cool treats completely before storing. Notes *It is important to use solid light tuna and not chunk light tuna. We found that chunk light tuna is softer and moister, resulting in treats that don't bake properly. Storage: Transfer cooled treats to an airtight container. Store at room temperature up to one month. Nutrition Facts Per Serving: 4 calories; cholesterol 1mg; sodium 9mg; protein 1g.

Preventing Unwanted Urination.

By Ron Ducharme

There are a number of reasons why dogs have problems with inappropriate urination and in some cases defecation. Unfortunately most dog owners don't understand why this happens and are unsure what to do. It can even happen to dogs that have been trained and housebroken. Many dog owners who are unable to address the problem simply take their dog to the pound as they assume there is no alternative to the problem that they are unable to solve. Unwanted urination is a very common problem that many dog owners face and is more common than most people would assume. You will need to eliminate any medical reasons first, as there could be bladder infections that are causing the urination, but aside from that there are other reasons why dogs will urinate. One of the most common reasons for a dog to lose control of it's bladder is from excitement and you will generally see this happen a lot more with puppies. With puppies this is a lack of bladder control that will generally stop, as they get older. Puppies are often unaware that they are urinating when they get excited and to reprimand them for doing this will cause confusion. To get angry with your dog for excitement urination can lead to other problems where the dog will begin to urinate from submissiveness rather than excitement thereby creating another problem that will need to be addressed. With excitement urination the best cure is prevention and that is achieved by not allowing your dog to get overly excited. And the best way to stop your dog getting over excited in certain circumstances is to expose him/her to those situations more often until they no longer get excited to the extent that they urinate. Puppies will eventually grow out of excitement urination as they develop better bladder control. Submissive urination is something that is common in the wild, where dogs, being pack animals, show their submissiveness to the leader of the pack by lowering themselves and urinating. Where a dog is showing signs of submissive urination this is effectively a sign of insecurity and is very often associated with dogs that have been abused. It can be difficult to correct submissive urination and quite often the best method is to ignore what is happening and focus on developing a better relationship with your pet and help to build it's self confidence.

We are so grateful for the service of our nation’s retired Police K-9 and Military Working Dog Heroes that we want to honor them in retirement, and ensure the best quality of life for them, by providing assistance with medical costs, food and end of duty services. We rely on donors like you to fund our project , because there are no public funds for police and military working dogs. We are now working with Congress to change that with the K-9 Hero Act. For the last three years Project K-9 Hero has been working on the K-9 Hero Act in coordination with Congressman Ron Wright and his office. Right now Project K-9 Hero, Congress, and the Senate are gathering support to take this bill to a vote. The K-9 Hero Act was a vision we had at Project K-9 Hero and a vision our Founder, Jason Johnson, had over many years on how we can take funding from the federal government and help give that to non-profits to spend on medical bills for retired federal K-9s. This bill will allow for any military working dog or federal law enforcement K-9s to seek services through non-profits like Project K-9 Hero and allow us as an organization to take in grant money to spend specifically on medical bills for those dogs. This bill will allocate $5,000,000 of federal grant funds each fiscal year from 2021 through 2025. The future of retired working dogs with respect to ownership and provision of medical services is often unclear and the medical treatment required by many former working dogs is significant enough that it creates a hardship for the individuals, often former partners, who take in these canine heroes. At Project K-9 Hero we set in to fill this gap. This bill will help us at Project K-9 Hero free up some of our other donations where we can help spend it on a deputy sheriff dog or a state police dog or a city dog. Not only does it impact our federal community but it will impact our local and state communities as well. Jason Johnson states, “For me it’s a legacy as the Founder of Project K-9 Hero. I want to make sure that the work is being carried on for generations to come. It’s time our government take into consideration that if we’re going to use them and treat them like heroes when they’re on duty and during their service that we're going to treat them the same way in retirement.” We encourage you to reach out to your Senator or Congressman to ask them to support H.R. 5081, The K-9 Hero Act. These heroes spent their entire careers protecting us. Now it’s our turn to protect them. ead the status of this bill here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/5081/text

About This Group

CTLAFP is a group that supports the families of missing pets and supports those who find stray pets. We are a Facebook support group for folks in the lost pet community. We started the page in 2012. We have an admin team, a moderator team, scanners, fosters, and over 30,000 members. We do not have funding, we are not a 501, we are not a rescue. Our goals are to reunite pets and their families above all. To keep pets out of our over crowded local shelters, we ask regular citizens to open their home to lost pets. We offer an adoption page for th ose who have held found pets over n hours and we also help raise funds for vetting found pets. We attend pet events and host our own events through out the community to allow these members the chance to find homes for their fosters. Email ctlafp@gmail.com for more information.

Heart of Texas Lost and Found Pets/Cribs For Canines Heart of Texas Lost and Found Pets HOTLFP is a community of volunteers that is focused on getting lost pets home by partnering on social media. We have a team that scans lost pets for implanted microchips. We network lost and found animals via our Facebook group. Join our group on Facebook to network lost and found pets, receive information about low cost and free microchipping events, and other helpful information. HOTLFP members have a passion for animals and people. Reunions and safety is our ultimate goal. We are a welcoming community and are excited for you to join! Recent Rescue Story: Dottie Sweet “Dottie,” an overbred female pit bull mix, has evaded the team at Heart of Texas Lost and Found Pets for a year in Elm Mott. Countless sightings were posted, and many tried to help her, but this poor, neglected, and fearful momma-dog, likely of countless litters, was difficult to secure. Finally, in early June, Dottie was trapped by rescuer Michelle Ann, vetted, found heartworm positive, without a microchip, and no owner speaking up. She was placed into foster care with Stephanie Cobbs, and by July, it became apparent that Dottie was “bearing another burden”— nine puppies. In a high risk procedure, eight were delivered alive via c-section, and momma and babies are, miraculously, doing well. They’ll eventually be up for adoption! https://www.facebook.com/groups/hotlfp/

Education, not shame

Visit our main website here: https://www.cribs4canines.com

In a perfect world, every dog on the planet would be living in the comfort of their human’s home; snuggled up on the couch or snoring from their dog bed. However, this isn’t how things are at all. Our team members have witnessed the evil and harsh reality of what dogs endure in this cruel world. They are the voice for these helpless animals and at times also a savior. Our team is comprised of passionate souls that want nothing more than the welfare for the dogs in the community to be treated fairly, kindly, and at the very least humanly. At the very start of 2019, a group of animal rescuers in Waco, TX set out on a mission to help members of the community to take better care of their backyard dogs. With no shelter, these dogs stood helplessly in the rain, bared the wind with no protection, and curled up in a ball in hopes of staying warm at night. They went out searching for used dog houses or igloo shelters, collected old blankets and straw, and gave them to the homeowner at no cost. This act of kindness became a regular thing and within a matter of weeks, donations from various companies, individuals, and groups started pouring in…giving Cribs for Canines enough materials to make 200 dog houses. The intent was to place the houses throughout McLennan County, to dogs in need of shelter. The mission isn’t just protect the dogs. Dog ownership requires a large amount of responsibility : food, water, and shelter. Public laws are in place to prevent dogs from going without but it is often overlooked and ignored. Cribs for Canines want owners to keep their dogs, and by providing them the means to take care of their dogs properly: they keep dogs in good homes, off of the streets, and out of the shelter.

Interesting Dog Breed: Estrela Mountain Dog Brave / Alert / Intelligent

Source https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/estrela-mountain-dog/ Height 24.5-29 inches Weight 77-132 pounds Life Span 10-14 years

About

the Breed

The Estrela Mountain Dog is not only an excellent livestock guardian, but is also known for his love of children and family. Proper socialization and training as a puppy is very important so that the dominance in the Estrela's personality does not become aggressive. The Estrela Mountain Dog is named for the Estrela Mountains in Portugal and is believed to be the oldest breed in the region. The breed has several distinctive physical characteristics including rosed ears, a black mask and a hook at the end of its tail. He is an inseparable companion of the shepherd and a faithful flock guardian, bravely protecting it against predators and thieves. A wonderful farm and house guard, he is distrustful towards strangers but typically docile to his master. As a companion in the home, an Estrela will bond for life. He will love and protect his whole family, but a piece of his soul will belong to that one special family member of his choosing. As an Estrela owner tells us: "There is nothing compared to the love of an Estrela."   Breed Contact Details Michelle Tefft

Our main purpose is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home our dachshunds in forever homes to live their lives in a safe loving environment. We sometimes find ourselves providing loving arms and a safe foster home for the severely ill to live out their last days being loved and cherished, sadly all too often they are experiencing this love for the very first time.

Temple TX Call us at 254-771-9090

www.petangelstx.com

Many of the dachshunds we get are abandoned in shelters because they can no longer provide their owners with healthy puppies to be sold. Or they have gotten old and are in need of medical attention so they are sent to the shelter for someone else to care for. All too often the only medical care they have ever had was their first shots as puppies. Some of the Dachshunds who come to us are purebreds. They come to us in all shapes sizes and colors. If you are truly looking for a pet that wants nothing more then to please you and love you, then please consider adopting one of our seniors. They are full of love and ask for nothing more than to be loved in return.

Famous Animals: Pep the Governors dog

sentenced to life in prison

10% off food only and no Alcohol

Pep was a gift to Gifford Pinchot, the Governor of Pennsylvania, during his first term in 1923. He was a much-loved pet but had a bad habit of chewing on the cushions of the front porch sofa. The Governor felt it was best the dog lived somewhere else and decided to send him to the Eastern State Penitentiary in Maine. He heard about dogs being used as therapy to help rehabilitate inmates and, being good friends with the warden, felt Pep would be an excellent candidate. Pep entered the prison in August 1924. Jokingly, the guards paw printed Pep and even took a mugshot of him with an inmate number, which is skipped in prison intake logs and inmate records. Word got around and his story was published in newspapers saying the Governor used his executive powers to sentence his dog to life in prison without parole for killing his wife's cat. According to Dick Fulmer, who worked at Eastern State in the '60s and has spent years researching the facility's history, stories of the false accusation were written all because of politics. In 1926, Cornelia Bryce-Pinchot, the Governor's wife, issued a statement to the New York Times clearing Pep's name. Pep lived at Eastern State Penitentiary until he was transferred to Graterford Prison in 1929 where he died of natural causes and was buried on the prison grounds. Pep was never locked in a cell. He wandered around the prison halls freely and became a favorite among the inmates and guards. BARI- Bari’s estimated birthday is 8/19/12, a very slim 11 lb, handsome reddish tan boy with white markings, he is fostering with IGCA Rescue North Texas. Bari is a special needs puppy mill rescue still working hard on socialization, human trust and physical attention. Everyone who spends time with Bari grows to love him. The happy dance he does, when he knows he is going outside, and his frolic through the yard as he runs back to the door is joyful to watch. He fits in beautifully with a group of dogs as he is easy and demands no attention causing jealousy. He prefers his kennel and a comfortable bed to toys and attention. Do you and your pets have a place in your home and hearts to become Bari’s forever family?

TAVISH-If you’re looking for a very loving, calm IG in his middle years, Tavish is your lad. Tavi (also known as Butterbean) is a charmer and whip-smart. He already knows many commands/words and learns more as his foster mom teaches him. Tavi loves a routine and finds it comforting to know what’s happening (and when) as regards to walks, potty breaks and feeding. This is partly the breed and also due to his blindness, caused by cataracts. Please don’t think of Tavi as a “special needs” dog; his foster mom believes he has been blind for quite awhile, since he’s very comfortable with his sight loss. He gets to know his home pretty quickly to make his way around and will zero in on your location when you say, “come!” and clap hands. He’s just a regular dog who happens to be blind.

EMMA ROSE- I'm a chill girl just looking for someone to snuggle with. I love laying outside in the grass just soaking up the sun and am very comfortable with using a supervised doggie door. I'm patient with my hyper foster sister and have never had a single issue with food aggression, even when foster sister tries to steal my treats! Emma Rose has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. She is currently symptom free (we found the mass by chance, during a routine vet visit) and has started treatment. At this time she is expected to have a good quality of life for at least the coming year, if not longer.

WALLACE- Wallace is a sweet boy who has made amazing progress during his time in rescue. He came to us from a puppy mill and was terrified of everything. People were very scary and it took a couple of months before he would willingly let his foster mom pet him. Wallace has discovered the joy of toys and he has become more and more playful. He loves the other dogs in the house and will frequently be seen cuddling with them on a dog bed. While Wallace has made a lot of progress, he is still continuing to grow. When new or confusing situations present themselves, he will get scared and is unsure of how to react. He is looking for a patient and loving home to help him as he continues on his journey, and you will be rewarded with lots of love!

Man's new best friend: What cats can teach us about human genetics and precision medicine Although cats have lived alongside humans for millennia, it remains a dogs' world. This bias has historically bled into science as well. It's time for cats to get their day, argues veterinary medicine expert Leslie Lyons in a Forum published July 28 in the journal Trends in Genetics. Cats, she says, have the potential to be a valuable model organism for geneticists, as the feline genome is ordered similarly to humans. "Using cats in research is really overlooked, since people don't realize the advantages," says Lyons, of the Department of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery at the University of Missouri. "The dog or mouse genome have rearranged chromosomes that are quite different than humans, but the domestic cat has genes that are about the same size as humans, as well as a genome that, like humans, is very organized and conserved." Lyons writes that cats could be an asset for helping researchers better understand our genetic "dark matter." Although making up 95% of our DNA, it has long been considered filler information of little to no consequences, yet approximately 10% of the noncoding regions within the dark matter of the genome are conserved across mammals, suggesting that it has an important, misunderstood role. Cats have been found to have genetic diseases related to dysfunction of their genetic dark matter, making them a potential model organism for this type of research. "As we discover that perhaps animals have more similar spacing between genes and the genes are in the same order, maybe that will help us to decipher what's going on with humans," Lyons says. "Working with a primate is on the expensive side, but a cat's affordability and docile nature make them one of the most feasible animals to work with to understand the human genome." Another reason why cats could enlighten the human genome is that we have the technology to clone cats and make transgenic cats. The first cat clone, Cc, short for CopyCat, was generated in 2001. Her cell donor was a typical calico cat with black, orange, and white fur, but Cc didn't turn out to have any orange on her coat, defying Mendel's laws and other basic genetic principles. This was a clue that something was happening in Cc's genes that researchers are just now beginning to understand. Cats could also play a role in precision medicine for genetic diseases, in which instead of treating the symptoms, researchers fix the actual gene and what the gene does. For example, certain breeds of cats are prone to the genetic illness polycystic kidney disease, which also afflicts humans. Lyons writes that if we could treat this disease with precision medicine in cats, we could apply those learnings to us. "So, if you and your cat walk in the vet's door and there is not a trauma, there is not a feeding problem, there might be a genetic problem with the cat. Vets could sequence the genes and potentially more quickly find the cause of what's going on and then develop a treatment that is more appropriate than just treating the symptoms," Lyons says. "We can provide a more tailored healthcare program for our pets, and more funding would put all the different pieces into place."

Our Story PoundPup and Friends Initiative - PPFI·Wednesday, January 22, 2020· PoundPup originated in 2010, when our founder went to the local “pound” to pick up Polly (that’s her stray photo from the shelter website). Polly was apparently deaf and blind, and had mange. Her prognosis did not seem to be very good, and shelter staff released her free of charge, in hopes that she may have a few good days in a loving home. Many medical treatments later, Polly emerged healthy and very spunky. This is when PoundPup and Friends founder, Liz Rainey, realized that with proper funding, we could probably save a lot more animals from going to the pound, or getting adopted out of the shelter. An idea was born, but lack of funding soon stopped the program. But the idea lingered in Liz’s head, and on August 17, 2017, she filed the necessary paperwork to get PoundPup and Friends Initiative formally registered as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We want to assist displaced, stray or unwanted pet animals in an effort to keep them out of shelters and avoid euthanasia or exposure to dangerous elements, human or natural. Happy New Year! 2012 is going to be a wonderful year for animals in San Antonio. You may be aware already that the Austin city shelter has gotten to a greater than 90% save rate due largely to the efforts of Austin Pets Alive! The great news is that San Antonio Pets Alive! has already been formed to make San Antonio a No Kill City with an estimated life-saving launch date of 1/19/2012. This new organization will use best practices from many different cities to get to a No Kill San Antonio as fast as possible - which would make us the largest U.S. city to be No Kill! The world has long believed that there are not enough homes for the pets killed in shelters but according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, there are over 100,000 homes available to new pets in San Antonio each year. If we convince just 20% of those homes, through marketing, awareness, and adoption events to adopt a shelter pet instead of purchasing a pet, enough animals will be saved to make San Antonio a No Kill City (where only terminally ill or dangerous animals are euthanized). Currently, the city of San Antonio euthanizes

over 18,000 animals per year, or around 50/day. This is a crisis that needs immediate attention. SAPA will have a laser-like focus on the dogs and cats who are literally hours from euthanasia, and will provide temporary and emergency foster homes, medical aid, and adoption services to make sure they survive. Our first priority will be to save every single puppy and then move on to saving every single kitten, then on to the adults who end up on the euthanasia list. Just like every animal ends up in the shelter through the action of one person, we need for every animal to get out of the shelter alive through the action of individuals like you who all step up to help. It is going to take the San Antonio community to help make this a success! Let’s all make a New Year’s Resolution to save our San Antonio animals! San Antonio Pets Alive’s success will be possible because of YOUR thoughtful contributions (time and money). Because only by working together can we reach a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. Your tax-deductible gift will give hope and a loving home to San Antonio’s animals. Please don’t delay. I urge you to give

your most generous gift now so that we can rescue animals that are currently in danger of euthanasia and help re-home them in the new year! Thank you and bless you for your kindness In partnership and excitement Dr Ellen Jefferson Executive Director

Big Hearts Cory and his mom, Diana, are faithful volunteers at the Bell County Animal Shelter. They do a variety of things around the shelter to help the staff and make the lives of the animals better. They frequently take dogs out of their runs and into the play yard or meet room. The dogs are so excited to get outside and run off some energy and smell some new scents. But what the dogs enjoy the most is getting the hands- on love and attention they get from Cory and Diana. Cory has a special gift of tenderness that the dogs sense and are drawn to. Cory’s affectionate nature and willingness to share his love with these lonely dogs has been a blessing. The shelter staff and other volunteers appreciate so much all Cory and Diana do to enrich the lives of these animals who need the opportunity to live happy lives in loving homes. The shelter always needs volunteers, so please come and brighten the lives of the cats and dogs.”

Starkey's Strays http://starkeysstrays.simplesite.com/ starkeysstrays@gmail.com Fluffy is a neutered male born on May 23, 2015. He is sweet once he warms up to you otherwise he is very shy. He does get along with children but it takes him a while to warm up to them. He would do best in a home with no dogs and only cats. He loves cuddles and pets once he is comfortable in his environment. He was born a Feral so he is still getting used to trusting humans. Adoption fee $30

Company Overview

Local Cat rescue ensuring that all unwanted, abused, and abandoned cats in the North Killeen Castle Heights area have a loving place to call home. We started when we came across a stray kitten on our property, he was very shy and sad. We earned his trust and let him in our home. We made him healthy and happy and found him a good home. Soon after another cat showed up skinny and in need of love, so we did the same for her. Next thing we knew we were up to 8 cats, then 10, then we were rescuing every cat we came across. It was our mission to help them all.

Services Complete Care: From the moment that your pet enters our care, we adhere to the strict guidelines and standards set for by the International Association of Pet Cemeteries & Crematories. Pet Angels guarantees that ashes that are returned are genuine. We use the Pet ID Tag system originally developed for human cremation. This Pet ID Tag can withstand temperatures exceeding 2800 degrees and will remain on your pet throughout the entire cremation process. What is Pet Cremation? The staff at Pet Angels Cremation would like to express’s our deepest sympathies for your loss. We recognize that the love shared between a pet owner and a loyal pet is undeniable. In our opinion there is no better tribute to a fallen companion than to memorialize the love shared between an owner and pet through cremation. This allows pet owners to say goodbye to their four-legged companion in a dignified and loving way. We offer both Private and Simple Cremations, which are explained below. Cremation Options: Private: This is a private cremation service where your pet’s remains are separated from others. The pet’s ashes are returned to the pet owner in a beautiful urn of their choice. Also included in a private cremation is our Essential Remembrance Package. Simple: This is a “group” cremation where several pet companions are placed into the chamber together. There is no ash return with simple cremations. We will dispose of the pet’s ashes in a beautiful setting never to be disturbed.

August "Augie" the oldest golden retriever in the world

August, better known as “Augie,” turned 20 in April, becoming the oldest golden retriever in the world

August, better known as “Augie,” made history on April 24 when she turned 20, becoming the oldest golden retriever ever, according to Golden Hearts Retrievers Rescue.

Augie lives in Oakland, Tenn. with her owners Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt, who adopted the cute pup when she was 14. To celebrate her milestone birthday, Augie earned a dogfriendly carrot cake, as well as some quality time with her fellow golden retriever siblings, Sherman, Belle, and Bruce. And even at 20 years old, Augie is surprisingly healthy, her owner Jennifer said.
