Yes, us, AGAIN!!! We are Zeus and Perseus and we have been waiting forever, getting closer and closer to being in rescue a year already! We are a pair of adult male piggies and have gotten to enjoy life in several different foster homes. We are very handsome, but Perseus is also a little shy. We would like a home with lots of space to play and run as we are energetic young bucks.
Austin Guinea Pig Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming guinea pigs, chinchillas, hamsters, gerbils, mice, degus and hedgehogs in the Austin, Texas area. Animals and the Law By Ron Ducharme The Law that passed 11-25-2019 Public Law No: 116-72 is a step in the right direction. The law itself only stands to make it illegal for crushing videos to be made and distributed. Crushing video is where a bad person stomps on a animal causing it to die. They record this horrible act for the amusement of other sick minded individuals who find it entertaining. This law does not outlaw Animal cruelty just the video taping of such a act... Easy Dog Treat Recipe: as seen at https://www.puppyleaks.com/pb-dog-treats/
Ingredients 2 cups flour 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter*Natural-No Sugar 2 eggs 1/4 cup water You can use other kinds of peanut butter such as chunky, but if you do you‛ll probably need to add more water to the mixture in order to make it into workable dough. Instructions Preheat your oven to 350 F. Mix together your flour, peanut butter & eggs in a large bowl until slightly combined. Add in a little bit of water (approximately one Tbsp at a time) until the mixture becomes wet enough to roll out as dough. Roll out your dough & cut out your favorite shapes with some cookie cutters. Place your treats onto your baking sheet & cook for about 15 minutes. For a little bit of crunch I like to take mine out once the bottoms start to darken.

Dog History: How and Why Dogs were Domesticated by K. Kris Hirst Updated April 25, 2019 The history of dog domestication is that of an ancient partnership between dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) and humans. That partnership was likely originally based on a human need for help with herding and hunting, for an early alarm system, and for a source of food in addition to the companionship many of us today know and love. In return, dogs received companionship, protection, shelter, and a reliable food source. But when this partnership first occurred is still under some debate. Dog history has been studied recently using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which suggests that wolves and dogs split into different species around 100,000 years ago. Although mtDNA analysis has shed some light on the domestication event(s) which may have occurred between 40,000 and 20,000 years ago, researchers are not agreed on the results. Some analyses suggest that the original domestication location of dog domestication was in East Asia; others that the middle east was the original location of domestication; and still others that later domestication took place in Europe. What the genetic data has shown to date is that the history of dogs is as intricate as that of the people they lived alongside, lending support to the long depth of the partnership, but complicating origin theories.
Two Domestications
In 2016, a research team led by bioarchaeologist Greger Larson (Frantz et al. cited below) published mtDNA evidence for two places of origin for domestic dogs: one in Eastern Eurasia and one in Western Eurasia. According to that analysis, ancient Asian dogs originated from a domestication event from Asian wolves at least 12,500 years ago; while European Paleolithic dogs originated from an independent domestication event from European wolves at least 15,000 years ago. Then, says the report, at sometime before the Neolithic period (at least 6,400 years ago), Asian dogs were transported by humans to Europe where they displaced European Paleolithic dogs. That would explain why earlier DNA studies reported that all modern dogs were descended from one domestication event, and also the existence of evidence of two domestication event from two different far-flung locations. There were two populations of dogs in the Paleolithic, goes the hypothesis, but one of them—the European Paleolithic dog—is now extinct. A lot of questions remain: there are no ancient American dogs included in most of the data, and Frantz et al. suggest that the two progenitor species were descended from the same initial wolf population and both are now extinct. However, other scholars (Botigué and colleagues, cited below) have investigated and found evidence to support migration event(s) across the central Asia steppe region, but not for a complete replacement. They were unable to rule out Europe as the original domestication location.
The Data: Early Domesticated Dogs The earliest confirmed domestic dog anywhere so far is from a burial site in Germany called Bonn-Oberkassel, which has joint human and dog interments dated to 14,000 years ago. The earliest confirmed domesticated dog in China was found in the early Neolithic (7000–5800 BCE) Jiahu site in Henan Province. Evidence for co-existence of dogs and humans, but not necessarily domestication, comes from Upper Paleolithic sites in Europe. These hold evidence for dog interaction with humans and include Goyet Cave in Belgium, Chauvet cave in France, and Predmosti in the Czech Republic. European Mesolithic sites like Skateholm (5250–3700 BC) in Sweden have dog burials, proving the value of the furry beasts to hunter-gatherer settlements.
12
Danger Cave in Utah is currently the earliest case of dog burial in the Americas, at about 11,000 years ago, likely a descendant of Asian dogs. Continued interbreeding with wolves, a characteristic found throughout the life history of dogs everywhere, has apparently resulted in the hybrid black wolf found in the Americas. Black fur coloration is a dog characteristic, not originally found in wolves.
Dogs as Persons
Some studies of dog burials dated to the Late Mesolithic-Early Neolithic Kitoi period in the Cis-Baikal region of Siberia suggests that in some cases, dogs were awarded "person-hood" and treated equally to fellow humans. A dog burial at the Shamanaka site was a male, middle-aged dog which had suffered injuries to its spine, injuries from which it recovered. The burial, radiocarbon dated to ~6,200 years ago (cal BP), was interred in a formal cemetery, and in a similar manner to the humans within that cemetery. The dog may well have lived as a family member. A wolf burial at the Lokomotiv-Raisovet cemetery (~7,300 cal BP) was also an older adult male. The wolf's diet (from stable isotope analysis) was made up of deer, not grain, and although its teeth were worn, there is no direct evidence that this wolf was part of the community. Nevertheless, it too was buried in a formal cemetery. These burials are exceptions, but not that rare: there are others, but there is also is evidence that fisher-hunters in Baikal consumed dogs and wolves, as their burned and fragmented bones appear in refuse pits. Archaeologist Robert Losey and associates, who conducted this study, suggest that these are indications that Kitoi hunter-gatherers considered that at least these individual dogs were "persons". Modern Breeds and Ancient Origins Evidence for the appearance of breed variation is found in several European Upper Paleolithic sites. Medium-sized dogs (with wither heights between 45–60 cm) have been identified in Natufian sites in the Near East dated to ~15,500-11,000 cal BP). Medium to large dogs (wither heights above 60 cm) have been identified in Germany (Kniegrotte), Russia (Eliseevichi I), and Ukraine (Mezin), ~17,000-13,000 cal BP). Small dogs (wither heights under 45 cm) have been identified in Germany (Oberkassel, Teufelsbrucke, and Oelknitz), Switzerland (Hauterive-Champreveyres), France (Saint-Thibaud-de-Couz, Pont d'Ambon) and Spain (Erralia) between ~15,000-12,300 cal BP. See the investigations by archaeologist Maud Pionnier-Capitan and associates for more information. A recent study of pieces of DNA called SNPs (single-nucleotide polymorphism) which have been identified as markers for modern dog breeds and published in 2012 (Larson et al) comes to some surprising conclusions: that despite the clear evidence for marked size differentiation in very early dogs (e.g., small, medium and large dogs found at Svaerdborg), this has nothing to do with current dog breeds. The oldest modern dog breeds are no more than 500 years old, and most date only from ~150 years ago.
Theories of Modern Breed Origination
Scholars now agree that most of the dog breeds we see today are recent developments. However, the astounding variation in dogs is a relic of their ancient and varied domestication processes. Breeds vary in size from the one pound (.5 kilogram) "teacup poodles" to giant mastiffs weighing over 200 lbs (90 kg). In addition, breeds have different limb, body, and skull proportions, and they also vary in abilities, with some breeds developed with special skills such as herding, retrieving, scent detection, and guiding. That may be because domestication occurred while humans were all hunter-gatherers at the time, leading extensively migrant lifeways. Dogs spread with them, and thus so for a while dog and human populations developed in geographic isolation for a time. Eventually, however, human population growth and trade networks meant people reconnected, and that, say scholars, led to the genetic admixture in the dog population. When dog breeds began to be actively developed about 500 years ago, they were created out of a fairly homogenous gene pool, from dogs with mixed genetic heritages which had been developed in widely disparate locations. Since the creation of kennel clubs, breeding has been selective: but even that was disrupted by World Wars I and II, when breeding populations all over the world were decimated or went extinct. Dog breeders have since reestablished such breeds using a handful of individuals or combining similar breeds. Hirst, K. Kris. "Dog History: How and Why Dogs were Domesticated." They thought she was dead. Princess Leia a true fighter
Before
By Ron Ducharme
Today
Her story begins back in December of 2018. It was a cold wet day, with the temperature in the 30's, one of the many days in that month. Killeen Animal Services received a call for a abandon animal in the city limits. When Animal Control arrive they approached a near lifeless dog who has been tied to a pole. She was frozen and barely moving. They pick her up and carried her to the truck, put blankets on her and made the trip to the Veterinarian. Once at the facility the Staff quickly assisted, and evaluated her condition. The news was not good this animal, her system was shutting down, kidneys, liver, respiratory, and she was underweight at just 40 lbs. She was estimated to not have eaten in at least 5 days and lack of water was evident. They started a I.V and added more blankets to bring her body temperature to normal. They brought her back to the facility, the next 12 hours was crucial for her survival, and all that could be done at this point is wait. The next day fearing the worse, they checked on her. She was breathing but unable to move, or eat. Another 24 hours and the same with a little improvement, her body Temperature had stabilized and the I.V was giving her a spark. Another day passed and another and finally she started to eat. By the fourth day She stood in her Kennel to the relief of all of those taking care of her, this was the moment they where waiting for, they knew now she was going to make it. It was January now, and they had her about 3 weeks and she was ready for a home. Our worlds came together one faithful day in January, of 2019 when Eric the senior ACO approached me about this female Rottweiller. Now Eric knew that I lost my beloved Leonidas after Christmas and I am use to Rotts so he introduced me to her. When we first met she was underweight (gained 5lbs) definitely needing love. She was sociable, very playful and looking sad at the same time. You can tell this dog has endured a rough time. I did not say yes on the spot but it was the next day I picked her up and her new name became Princess Leia. I choose warrior names for animals I rescue because they fight the biggest fight to stay alive. Just like a warrior they have beaten the odds. She is now with me in a permanent home with love, food water, treats, treats, and did I mention treats. She plays with her big brother Lancelot, shes runs in the yard sleeps in the bed she gets a abundance of attention and is enjoying her new life. Hard to believe she was left for dead and took four days to move. Now the energizer Rabbit has nothing on her. I may submit her for that commercial. She plays, runs what seems like a Marathon, and just loving her home. All animals just like people have a story, some good and some are bad. But we all can add to the story and make it a happy ending.

We sometimes find ourselves providing loving arms and a safe foster home for the severely ill to live out their last days being loved and cherished, sadly all too often they are experiencing this love for the very first time. Many of the dachshunds we get are abandoned in shelters because they can no longer provide their owners with healthy puppies to be sold. Or they have gotten old and are in need of medical attention so they are sent to the shelter for someone else to care for. All too often the only medical care they have ever had was their first shots as puppies. Some of the Dachshunds who come to us are purebreds. They come to us in all shapes sizes and colors. If you are truly looking for a pet that wants nothing more then to please you and love you, then please consider adopting one of our seniors. They are full of love and ask for nothing more than to be loved in return.

Why Adopt? Why would someone get a pup, and just tie it out back and ignore it? Or get it as a “Gift”, and return it as soon the novelty wears off? It tears me up when I read about a pup that has been rescued with the rope/chain imbeded in its neck, or hear someone talk about, or see a pup tied up out back. They are your 4-legged family members! If you can’t treat them as such, do everyone a favor, and DON’T GET ONE!!! And when it’s raining or its cold, A TREE WILL NOT PROVIDE PROTECTION FROM THE WEATHER!! If you are going to get a pup for a child as a present, DON’T! Unless YOU are going to be the responsible party to train and care for the pup. A child will lose interest within a couple of weeks, then the pup will probably end up tied out back, or dumped on the street, or end up in a shelter that will put it down. There is NO EXCUSE that is acceptable for bringing in a pup and then putting it through that. If your kid just “has to have that cute, fluffy puppy”, go to the toy store, get them a stuffed puppy, and give that to them! But people just jump at the first “cute puppy” their kid “falls” in love with, and “promises” to take care of it. Is your kid ready to take care of themselves? If not, HOW DO YOU THINK THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF ANOTHER LITTLE LIFE THAT IS DEPENDING ON THEM? “But my kid is SO grown up!” If you THINK y’all are ready to bring that pup home, go to a shelter, go to a rescue, go on the internet, and just look at all those pups that others got, “that the kid lost interest with, and I’m too busy to deal with it”. Look at those sad, scared faces through the bars, and ask yourself if you would be ok with doing that to a pup! Or look at the pictures of those pups tied up in a yard, with no more than 10 – 15 feet as its area, and see if you would be ok living like that! Now, if you have done your research, and are a responsible person, who wants to bring a 4-legged fur baby into your home, first sit down with your family and discuss it, then check out the local shelters, STAY AWAY FROM BACKYARD BREEDERS!!! Especially on Craigslist! Those people are not interested in the pup, just the money! Take a cooling-off period, to make sure you are ready, go to a rescue (There are MANY in this magazine!), fill out an application, go through the adoption procedures, then find your forever family member. By following this, you may realize you are not ready to bring a pup into your home, and will be saving the life of one or more! One more thing – by saving a pup at a shelter or adopting one from a rescue, the pup has been checked out by a vet, microchipped, SPAYED or NEUTERED, has all its shots, and wormed. Hey, all the stuff you usually have to deal with is already done! How great is that?? So please, think before you bring home that pup “you or your kid can’t live without!” Let’s get ALL pups a furever home, with loving families! © 2020 John Paonessa

Our Story PoundPup and Friends Initiative - PPFI·Wednesday, January 22, 2020· PoundPup originated in 2010, when our founder went to the local “pound” to pick up Polly (that’s her stray photo from the shelter website). Polly was apparently deaf and blind, and had mange. Her prognosis did not seem to be very good, and shelter staff released her free of charge, in hopes that she may have a few good days in a loving home. Many medical treatments later, Polly emerged healthy and very spunky. This is when PoundPup and Friends founder, Liz Rainey, realized that with proper funding, we could probably save a lot more animals from going to the pound, or getting adopted out of the shelter. An idea was born, but lack of funding soon stopped the program. But the idea lingered in Liz’s head, and on August 17, 2017, she filed the necessary paperwork to get PoundPup and Friends Initiative formally registered as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We want to assist displaced, stray or unwanted pet animals in an effort to keep them out of shelters and avoid euthanasia or exposure to dangerous elements, human or natural. BARI- Bari’s estimated birthday is 8/19/12, a very slim 11 lb, handsome reddish tan boy with white markings, he is fostering with IGCA Rescue North Texas. Bari is a special needs puppy mill rescue still working hard on socialization, human trust and physical attention. Everyone who spends time with Bari grows to love him. The happy dance he does, when he knows he is going outside, and his frolic through the yard as he runs back to the door is joyful to watch. He fits in beautifully with a group of dogs as he is easy and demands no attention causing jealousy. He prefers his kennel and a comfortable bed to toys and attention. Do you and your pets have a place in your home and hearts to become Bari’s forever family?
TAVISH-If you’re looking for a very loving, calm IG in his middle years, Tavish is your lad. Tavi (also known as Butterbean) is a charmer and whip-smart. He already knows many commands/words and learns more as his foster mom teaches him. Tavi loves a routine and finds it comforting to know what’s happening (and when) as regards to walks, potty breaks and feeding. This is partly the breed and also due to his blindness, caused by cataracts. Please don’t think of Tavi as a “special needs” dog; his foster mom believes he has been blind for quite awhile, since he’s very comfortable with his sight loss. He gets to know his home pretty quickly to make his way around and will zero in on your location when you say, “come!” and clap hands. He’s just a regular dog who happens to be blind.

EMMA ROSE- I'm a chill girl just looking for someone to snuggle with. I love laying outside in the grass just soaking up the sun and am very comfortable with using a supervised doggie door. I'm patient with my hyper foster sister and have never had a single issue with food aggression, even when foster sister tries to steal my treats! Emma Rose has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. She is currently symptom free (we found the mass by chance, during a routine vet visit) and has started treatment. At this time she is expected to have a good quality of life for at least the coming year, if not longer.
WALLACE- Wallace is a sweet boy who has made amazing progress during his time in rescue. He came to us from a puppy mill and was terrified of everything. People were very scary and it took a couple of months before he would willingly let his foster mom pet him. Wallace has discovered the joy of toys and he has become more and more playful. He loves the other dogs in the house and will frequently be seen cuddling with them on a dog bed. While Wallace has made a lot of progress, he is still continuing to grow. When new or confusing situations present themselves, he will get scared and is unsure of how to react. He is looking for a patient and loving home to help him as he continues on his journey, and you will be rewarded with lots of love!

Animals who are Heroes SSgt. Reckless Korean War Hero Staff Sergeant Reckless (c. 1948 – May 13, 1968), a decorated war horse who held official rank in the United States military, was a mare of Mongolian horse breeding. Out of a race horse dam, she was purchased in October 1952 for $250 from a Korean stable-boy at the Seoul racetrack who needed money to buy an artificial leg for his sister. Reckless was bought by members of the United States Marine Corps and trained to be a pack horse for the Recoilless Rifle Platoon, Anti-Tank Company, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. She quickly became part of the unit and was allowed to roam freely through camp, entering the Marines' tents, where she would sleep on cold nights, and was known for her willingness to eat nearly anything, including scrambled eggs, beer, Coca-Cola and, once, about $30 worth of poker chips. She served in numerous combat actions during the Korean War, carrying supplies and ammunition, and was also used to evacuate wounded. Learning each supply route after only a couple of trips, she often traveled to deliver supplies to the troops on her own, without benefit of a handler. The highlight of her nine-month military career came in late March 1953 during the Battle for Outpost Vegas when, in a single day, she made 51 solo trips to resupply multiple front line units. She was wounded in combat twice, given the battlefield rank of corporal in 1953, and then a battlefield promotion to sergeant in 1954, several months after the war ended. She also became the first horse in the Marine Corps known to have participated in an amphibious landing, and following the war was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, was included in her unit's Presidential Unit Citations from two countries, as well as other military honors. Her wartime service record was featured in The Saturday Evening Post, and LIFE Magazine recognized her as one of America's 100 all-time heroes. She was retired and brought to the United States after the war, where she made appearances on television and participated in the United States Marine Corps birthday ball. She was officially promoted to staff sergeant in 1959 by the Commandant of the Marine Corps. She gave birth to four foals in America and died in May 1968. A plaque and photo were dedicated in her honor at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton stables and a statue of her was dedicated on July 26, 2013 at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia. On May 12, 2018, a bronze statue of Sergeant Reckless was placed and dedicated in the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington Kentucky.

Medical Notes for a healthier Pet
Dangerous Foods
Many people are unaware that some of the foods that we eat on regular basis can be deadly to your dog.
Chocolate
A piece of chocolate can cause seizures, coma and death. Even a small piece of chocolate is dangerous. Anything containing caffeine can have a similar effect and be as dangerous as chocolate, and that includes coffee grounds, tea, and tea bags.
Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure and even a single serving of raisins can kill your dog. Excessive salt intake can also cause kidney problems.
Onions can cause anemia by destroying red blood cells while tomatoes can cause tremors and heart arrhythmias. Tomato plants are particularly toxic to dogs. Avocados are also highly toxic and can cause breathing difficulty and fluid accumulation around the abdomen chest and heart.
Bones When giving your dog bones ensure that they are raw as cooked bones can splinter and damage their internal organs.
Excessive fat can cause pancreatitis, so it is not wise to feed your dog a diet of fatty foods. Fried foods also fall into this category and are not good to retain maximum health in your dog. Certain nuts, such as Macadamia nuts and walnuts can cause weakness and muscle tremors.
Peanut butter however is generally okay provided you use the salt and sugar free peanut butter as sugar can encourage cancer growth.
The core and pits of fruits such as Apple's cherries and peaches contain cyanide, which is poisonous to dogs and can kill them within 24-hours without warning.
If in doubt, always refrain from feeding your dog foods that we are eating assuming that they will be okay. What is safe for humans can kill your dog within hours.

Happy New Year! 2012 is going to be a wonderful year for animals in San Antonio. You may be aware already that the Austin city shelter has gotten to a greater than 90% save rate due largely to the efforts of Austin Pets Alive! The great news is that San Antonio Pets Alive! has already been formed to make San Antonio a No Kill City with an estimated life-saving launch date of 1/19/2012. This new organization will use best practices from many different cities to get to a No Kill San Antonio as fast as possible - which would make us the largest U.S. city to be No Kill! The world has long believed that there are not enough homes for the pets killed in shelters but according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, there are over 100,000 homes available to new pets in San Antonio each year. If we convince just 20% of those homes, through marketing, awareness, and adoption events to adopt a shelter pet instead of purchasing a pet, enough animals will be saved to make San Antonio a No Kill City (where only terminally ill or dangerous animals are euthanized). Currently, the city of San Antonio euthanizes
over 18,000 animals per year, or around 50/day. This is a crisis that needs immediate attention. SAPA will have a laser-like focus on the dogs and cats who are literally hours from euthanasia, and will provide temporary and emergency foster homes, medical aid, and adoption services to make sure they survive. Our first priority will be to save every single puppy and then move on to saving every single kitten, then on to the adults who end up on the euthanasia list. Just like every animal ends up in the shelter through the action of one person, we need for every animal to get out of the shelter alive through the action of individuals like you who all step up to help. It is going to take the San Antonio community to help make this a success! Let’s all make a New Year’s Resolution to save our San Antonio animals! San Antonio Pets Alive’s success will be possible because of YOUR thoughtful contributions (time and money). Because only by working together can we reach a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. Your tax-deductible gift will give hope and a loving home to San Antonio’s animals. Please don’t delay. I urge you to give
your most generous gift now so that we can rescue animals that are currently in danger of euthanasia and help re-home them in the new year! Thank you and bless you for your kindness In partnership and excitement Dr Ellen Jefferson Executive Director

Shelter Syndrome Trap It is awesome when a person chooses to adopt a dog from a shelter, rescue, re homing organization, etc. I want to
thank you for doing so. But, with this decision comes responsibility: (1) to train your dog,(2) establish leadership/form a bond, and (3) establish boundaries. Trust me, your dog with thank you for it in many different ways. This, along with the understanding that there may be other underlying issues that may need to be addressed, can be very beneficial to a long and prosperous life with your new companion.
In this article, I want to address what I refer to as “Shelter Syndrome”. This is when a dog is adopted from one of the aforementioned agenciesor other entities and is continuously viewed or refer to as “my rescue dog”. In my opinion, this has now become the IDENTITY of the dog. Why not take full ownership of your pup and say “this is my dog”. Now, by making the previous statement I am in no way saying that you should speak a certain way about your dog. Instead, I am approaching the statement from a human psychological point of view (by the way, I am not a PhD, I am a Canine Trainer and Behavior Specialist). Because the dog has been “rescued”, often times the human wants to overly love/pamper the dog. They allow the dog to “live its best life” with no rules and run-ofthe-house, or constantly comfort the dog when it is startled by something because the dog was in the shelter (more often “abuse”). Many of the following concepts can also be applied to dog ownership in general (sorry if I step on some toes here), but please understand the concepts in which I am trying to address; Its all about THE DOG. Having a big heart and a love for dogs is awesome! I love dogs, too. BUT this can also be to the detriment of the dog, if not implemented appropriately. As humans, we need to understand that canines do not exhibit behaviors, characteristics, needs, and communication and do not respond in the same way as we do. The human environment is not experienced by dogs in the same was as we experience them, and therefore we need to understand how to help them experience our world in a happy, exciting, and less stressful way without contributing to the dog’s inappropriate behaviors or irrational fears. Wanting to love your dog and give them their best life is what we all want for our dog, right?! But the way this is accomplished is important to the dog’s well-being. Providing leadership and structuring the dog’s life can be the most beneficial thing you can do. By NOT allowing the dog to “do what he/she wants, when it wants” or constantly making his/her own decisions can be more beneficial to his well-being than you may think. Now, the following may sound counterintuitive to this whole article of “canines do not behave/exhibit like humans” but bear with me. I like to relate certain canine behaviors to human behaviors just because it makes more sense to the human. Imagine when kids go to school. Generally, kids have some type of structure and leadership during these years such as: times to wake up, starting the school day, changing classes, and how to act during each class. This concept can actually HELP your dog, whether “rescue dog” or not. Understand that during school, kids have a certain freedom to choose to do certain things, but must adhere to certain rules. These rules and structure make it much easier for the kid to make it through the day. What happens when kids are out of school for spring/summer vacation with no structure or rules? Often, kids will make decisions that may be inappropriate but feels good or is fun for the kid. That’s the same concept we must apply to dogs. Once these structures are set, boundaries are identified, and leadership is established, there is a much better chance that your dog will have a much more enjoyable and less stressful life. There are MANY great trainers out there, many in my area. I recommend as soon as (if not before) you rescue your best friend, that you immediately contact a knowledgeable trainer. Yes, training your dog is an investment, but it is worth every penny foryour dog’s well-being and will last forever. Understanding dog communication is one of the best gifts that you can give to your furry friend, and he/she will love you for it!

Fluffy is a neutered male born on May 23, 2015. He is sweet once he warms up to you otherwise he is very shy. He does get along with children but it takes him a while to warm up to them. He would do best in a home with no dogs and only cats. He loves cuddles and pets once he is comfortable in his environment. He was born a Feral so he is still getting used to trusting humans. Adoption fee $30

Local Cat rescue ensuring that all unwanted, abused, and abandoned cats in the North Killeen Castle Heights area have a loving place to call home. We started when we came across a stray kitten on our property, he was very shy and sad. We earned his trust and let him in our home. We made him healthy and happy and found him a good home. Soon after another cat showed up skinny and in need of love, so we did the same for her. Next thing we knew we were up to 8 cats, then 10, then we were rescuing every cat we came across. It was our mission to help them all.

People who make a Diffence with Animals Super Bowl-winning Chiefs Derrick Nnadi pays all dog adoption fees at shelter By Ron Ducharme Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi helped with a Super Bowl win, for the Kansas City Chiefs, and on Sunday February 2, 2020, and at the same time made a huge score with KC Pet Project, a no-kill animal shelter in the Kansas City metro area. Nnadi is paying the adoption fees for all the dogs waiting for their forever homes at the KC Pet Project. "We're so honored to partner with Derrick Nnadi who is sponsoring the adoption fees of all of our adoptable dogs at our locations!" the shelter said in a tweet sent Monday. "What an incredibly generous gesture and we want to thank Derrick for his support all season long." Nnadi paid off the adoption fees of more than 100 dogs. "All my life I always wanted a dog," Nnadi told CNN. "Growing up I didn't have a pet, my parents didn't really allow pets." He got his first dog, Rocky, in college, and it inspired him to want to help other animals. Nnadi's Derrick Nnadi Foundation had partnered with the shelter all season. For each of the Chiefs' 15 wins during the regular and post-season, he paid for one dog's adoption fee (about $150, or ÂŁ115, AU $224). When the team made the Super Bowl, he decided to up the ante and pay for every dog's adoption fee if they won. "We have had an amazing, season-long, partnership with Derrick and he couldn't have thought of a better ending," the shelter said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
