HELLO

My name is Rona Atto, and I am a recent Fashion Promotion Graduate and Graphic Designer who specialises in branding design, digital and print designs, digital and freehand illustrations, paintings, and hand lettering. Being a visual storyteller is a role I truly appreciate as I could not imagine my life without visual thinking, considering imagery was my first language before even a written word as it seemed to be the easiest form of communication to me.

Ever since reading ‘Noughts and Crosses’ by Malorie Blackman, I have been engrossed in a world of fantasy, fiction, and fairy tales. My particular interest in Fashion arose from visualising the gowns in Cinderella to Carrie Bradshaw’s unique sense of style in ‘Sex and the City’. Throughout my educational path studying fashion textiles in Sixth Form further developed my sense of colour, texture and introduced me to a wealth of surface decoration techniques, and I received high praise for my Fashion and Design work, winning an award for my NCS project.

In the following years during university, I gained conceptual and technical thinking as a fashion promotion student and found a more unique and distinctive illustration style.

My illustration style is a mixture of sketchy lines and detailed graphic techniques, and I work in mediums such as ink, pen, pencil, paint and the equivalent digital tools on Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. My combination of free hand drawings and the usage of digital tools is what defines my illustrative style.

The beauty of being in the visual art field is that I take vast pleasure in drawing from observation and imagination while being inspired by past and present artists, designers, and decades.

02 NRLuxe

NRLuxe (Noire Reservoire) is a niche new brand created and designed with the curvy silhouette in mind and the Instagram Baddie Subculture. It targets women that are bold enough to push the boundaries with their aesthetic to feel sexy and enhance all the right curves while staying fashionable. Their narrow triangle bikini top plus full brief and thong bottoms are hand-stitched with their 3D Flowers. Noire Reservoire Swimwear knows how to accentuate the curvy women’s assets with their playful silhouettes, vibrant hues, and head-turning 3D Flowers for ‘Baddies’ on the beach.

GodMade is a dynamic luxury streetwear label created in 2018. Their vision is to redefine luxury fashion by aiming to bring a new modern approach with their innovative elements of adding elegance and comfortability to their clothing. Their designs are created to make their customers stand out not only in style but their craftsmanship and excellent quality. I was afforded the opportunity during this client project to create and design GodMade’s Autumn 2020 Collection. I decided to introduce a memorable design expressing the butterfly effect, which was an essential set designed with thoughtful material and colours for any occasion.

04 VIVIENNE WESTWOOD X BIC

I created an upcycling collaboration brief between environmentalist and modern punk style fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, and the BIC company who adds to throw-away culture due to their innovative design of the disposable razor. To tackle the impact of overconsumption I created this brief with the hopes that upcycling and reimagining the BIC razor will help alter people’s attitudes towards plastic products. I elevated the Bic razor to designer accessory status, by reusing the once disposed of ‘handle’ to become a piece of custom jewellery and redesigning the packaging case so it could add value to the product. I ensured I maintained and emulated the character of both brands by complying with their design guidelines.

LOUIS VUITTON X ADIDAS

I created a collaboration between French Luxury fashion house, Louis Vuitton, and German multinational sportswear brand, Adidas. I adopted collaborative branding to eliminate restrictions that brand identities have, so that both brands could achieve success in different markets than their own, plus enhancing their potential to communicate with another target audience that may have been unreachable due to their branding image. The luxury and sport collaboration typically commence with the iconic trainer such as Nike x Off-White. However, I decided for the Louis Vuitton X Adidas collaboration to feature sportwear, since high-end sportswear has become the newest status symbol for Millennials, as they have a powerful purchasing power within the luxury industry, so it is vital to cater to this group.

FOR MY GIRLS

I created a podcast called ‘For My Girls’ which was to explore the phenomenon of love regarding Black British Generation Z women and bring this topic to the forefront of British Society. This brief was inspired by Teen Vogue as even though they are a part of the fashion creative industry, they have evolved from being the little sister of ‘Vogue’ discussing fashion and beauty to shifting their focus a bit more on social and political issues due to their target audience Generation Z age 18-24 who are demanding more vital subjects being spoken about not just the cliché.

I wanted my project to reflect the same change Teen Vogue has into my podcast I wanted to be able to discuss Love, Dating and Relationships but still incorporate fashion and beauty into my podcast as dating according to evolutionary psychology effects our behaviour and attitudes to look good in clothing as it is unconsciously determined in our efforts to find a mate and reproduce.

L’Occitane is a French luxury retailer of natural cosmetics and well-being products such as body, face, hair, fragrances, and home products. I created a hypothetical design brief inspired by the brands summery fresh 2022 products. I created a wide range of marketing materials such as an Email/ newsletter, web/homepage banners and a 4pp Mailer.

Beauty Works is a Global and award-winning luxury hair extensions brand. I created a hypothetical design brief to see how my design skills could be transferred to suit Beauty Works guidelines. I chose to create engaging Instagram stories to promote a 10% off styling tools offer.

Barbie and Balmain created a distinctive, diverse, and inclusive limited-edition Balmain x Barbie 2022 capsule collection which was a seamless balance of the fashion and toy industry heritages. I decided to create digital fashion illustrations of my favourite items from the capsule collection which encapsulates Barbie’s synonymous pink and Balmain’s mesmerizing labyrinth pattern. I also created digital illustrations from Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda and Spring 2021 collection of my favourite pieces from the runway. As well as creating digital illustrations of my favourite musicians Rihanna and Lana Del Rey.

I decided to freehand draw and recreate paintings from different artists perspectives to challenge and showcase my illustrational technical skills. The artist I chose to choose from were Audrey Pongracz, Hayden Williams and Sarah Beetson. I also decided to create a few personal paintings of my own as well as including the painted version of my client work from the NRLuxe Swimwear.
