The Estate... walks, trails and locations for residents of Castle Leslie Estate. Yet to Restore All these properties form the final phase of the Castle Leslie restoration project which commenced in 1991.
Pinetum
Horse Pond
A Pinetum is an arboretum but specifically planted with pines. These woods are dotted with amazing specimens for you to spot including the King and Queen - a pair of specimen Sitka firs that stand over 120 ft tall.
Where the farm and carriage horses were brought for a long drink on their way home from a hard days work.
Suggested Walks Times are from The Lodge walking at a lazy pace. Please read the guidelines overleaf before heading out on your walk, as your safety is our prime concern.
The Famine Wall
1. Wetlands (30 - 45 minutes) - Wander around the wetlands and old ice ponds. This is where they cut ice from in the early Victorian times to store for use in the Castle.
This 41⁄2 mile wall was part of a famine relief project by the family who cancelled rents and built soup kitchens. All the crews building the wall were paid and fed. After this terrible time finally passed, the local people built the monument in Glaslough Village. We are planning to raise funds for the restoration of the wall as it tells the stories of Irish and social history and of the many lives affected by it. Local rumours are that it wasn’t built to keep the poachers out but to keep the eccentric Leslie family in.
2. The Lake Shore (1 hour) - From the Castle, gently stroll down the lawns and Lime Avenue, round to the lake shore for the best views of the Castle and to watch the horses jumping through the lake. Do bring your camera! 3. Around Kilvey (11⁄2 hours) - Walk down past the Castle, down the lawns and turn right past the Old Stable Mews. Head straight for Kilvey lake, round the lake and home again. 4. Lawns and Green Lane (1 hour) - Walk down the lawns. Turn left at the end for the Gothic Lodge, left down the Green Lane and home again. Watch out for galloping and jumping horses on the Green Lane.

Capacity Please allow us to briefly outline an overview of our delegate capacities in each of our private spaces available for your next event.
The Green Lake (Glaslough)
This is part of the ancient woodlands of Truagh and is home to our 200 deer and the Rookery.
This great lake is a mile long and over 70ft deep full of monster pike and magical Herons. It is filled by two deep springs. This is where we get our own bottled water.
Dream Lake
Floor
The lake got its name from the fact that it was once impossible to get to and only glimpses of it could be caught. The crannog here is a very early celtic settlement.
Kilvey Lake
Theatre
This is a very deep lake full of cannibal trout and surrounded by fairies.
Room Name
The Walled Garden Built in the 1850’s as a kitchen garden, this was one of the most beautiful walled gardens in the country. The restoration plan is now underway in terms of planning and raising funds. The aim is to restore this garden as a working garden but also as a teaching garden with a coffee shop.

The Castle Authentic interiors and old style hospitality... The Castle exudes old world grandeur, offers complete respite from the world and is the perfect setting in which to hold your next meeting or event. It is a truly private retreat free from distractions and intrusions of the outside world. For small to medium sized meetings, choose from the Library, Gallery or the Billiard room, or for larger meetings and events for up to 280 people we have the Castle Pavilion located in the fountain garden of the Castle overlooking the stunning Glaslough Lake.
Rooms suitable for small residential meetings are in abundance at the Castle. Choose from The Library or The Billiard room for an intimate meeting. For larger events utilising the Pavilion, rooms suitable for casual breakout sessions are plentiful. Delegates can brain storm in the magnificent Drawing Room with its grand piano and famous De La Robbia fireplace, they can be inspired in the hand painted Blue Room, divide and conquer into small groups in the Long Gallery, or if floods of natural daylight is what’s needed we have The Conservatory. There’s little chance of anyone going hungry at the Castle. Private dining options include a group dining experience on The Club Table in The Gallery, a Gala Banquet in the Castle Pavilion, a stand up buffet in the Long Gallery, or perhaps a much civilised Afternoon Tea experience in the Blue Room or Conservatory.

The Gallery An audience awaits… The works of art in this room are many. Sometimes it is the artwork hanging on the walls, sometimes it’s the sumptuous dinners that are served and all too often it’s the results from the strategic meetings that are held here. All the time however, they are masterpieces. The Gallery is a beautiful and very adaptable room at the Castle. It is traditionally home to the Club Table; one elegant dining table that seats up to 44 guests for a very special dining experience. Alternatively for a formal banquet The Gallery dines up to 75 guests for lunch or dinner. Equally idyllic for a meeting; The Gallery transforms to a conference location for up to 85 delegates providing a most unique location for a symposium.

The Billiards Room Not just for sport.‌ The Billiards Room was once home to the Castle’s billiards table, thus the name, but it was decided it was such a shame to restrict this exquisite room only for sport, and so we moved the billiards table to another room to allow this stunning location to be used for meetings, events and fabulous dinner parties. Wander into this room on a non event day and you’ll discover a delightful setting in which to read a book or enjoy a drink as its many comfortable sofas, chairs and individual pieces of furniture invite you to respite. However, like so many of the charming rooms in the Castle, this room was also made to entertain or perform as the backdrop for a successful meeting.

It is where delegates come to break out and brainstorm in little pockets of groups within its alcoves.
