Living at 911 Weston Road, Arden We have enjoyed living at 911 Weston Road for the past 11 years and want to share our experience with you. This house was situated carefully to take advantage of the historical driveway that was once the same drive that led up to the Weston Mansion, the ruins of which are located two lots to the west. Mr. Weston planted rhododendrons along this driveway back in the late 1800’s when a horse and buggy were the mode of transportation. Those plants still shade the driveway today. Another feature of the house is natural growth all around. Positioned as it is on the northeast side of the mountain the house gets warmth from the sun in the morning, but cools in the shade of the mountain in the afternoon. Some evenings in the summer it is cool enough for the air conditioning to be turned off and windows opened to let in fresh air. In the winter we love to sit by the fire in the family room and enjoy our morning coffee and read the paper. The natural rock wall surrounding the fireplace is both beautiful and unusual. Today similar walls would be constructed from engineered stone, not real stone. A great convenience when vacuuming the floors is the central vacuum unit. There are 4 outlets in the house and it is much easier to move a light hose around than to lug a heavy vacuum cleaner up and down stairs. It’s also very quiet because the electrical and noise creating parts are in the garage. You will find the house is very quiet. The gas furnace and central air conditioning make almost no sound at all. With the extra insulation in the attic the house stays cool in summer and delightfully warm in winter. Sitting on the deck in the summer is a great pleasure. We have had a bird feeder near the house and it is fun to watch all varieties taking turns at it. We always put up humming bird feeders and they buzz around them all summer long, even while you’re sitting on the porch or deck. There is a family of cardinals that stays here year round. With a bird feeder up in the winter they will add life and color to a deck covered in snow. These are some of the things we have enjoyed living at 911 Weston Road. In time you will find these pleasures and more in your new home.
