“Gimmie 5!” The Rondo Theatre is proud to announce the launch of our ‘Gimme 5’ campaign. The most important person to us is you, the audience. If it wasn’t for you and your continued support, we’d be a fancy apartment right now (don’t get any ideas!). As a registered charity, we rely largely on the goodwill of donations and are often faced with the question, “Well I just don’t know how much to give”. The simple answer is, anything. All donations go towards the upkeep of the theatre and your continued enjoyment of the place and the people we host. However, with the launch of our Autumn season, we want to make it a little easier for you. ‘Gimme 5’ suggests just that: £5. This is a donate anytime, anywhere amount. Using our PayPal address, you can do an easy online transfer and your £5 donation goes straight to the theatre. No fuss. No worries. Just happy, smiley faces here and your knowledge that you are playing your part in keeping the South West’s home of new writing alive and well. The Rondo Theatre PayPal Account: rondotheatre@outlook.com For further information or any questions, please do not hesitate to contact: officer@rondotheatre.co.uk Have a great Autumn!

4pm Joyeux Noel Directed by Christian Carion in 2005 this dual language film tells the story of the well documented unofficial ceasefire around Christmas in 1914. A spontaneous act of decency by ordinary soldiers on both sides was deemed dangerous and subversive by their officers and they were forced back into their trenches at gunpoint.

7pm Oh! What A Lovely War Directed by Richard Attenborough in 1969 this film version of Joan Littlewood’s acclaimed Theatre Workshop Stage Production mixes the horror of life in the trenches with the false hopes and aspirations of music hall ballads and soldiers’ songs of the day. Three new adaptations! Whether you are a hard-core Brontë fan or if you’ve never had the pleasure, these fresh new interpretations will invigorate, inspire and warm the heart of young and old.

sisters really were. Their passionate, iconic and timeless stories (written nearly 200 years ago) touch upon issues that are still very much relevant today. Performed in Rep, with only one and two actors, there’s a chance to mixand-match an old favourite along with a new acquaintance as well as the chance to see all three (with breaks, obviously!) at Omnibus Performances on the Saturdays*.

Live Wire Theatre together with Butterfly Psyche Theatre have created three brilliant, new stage adaptations of the Brontë sisters’ classic novels: Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre and Anne Brontë’s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

There will be post-show discussions on Friday the 19th of September and Friday the 26th of September.

Adapted by critically acclaimed writers Dougie Blaxland (Biggles, A Christmas Carol, That Moment) and Alison Farina (Fertility Objects, The Persistence of Memory, The Blue Bird) these new productions show very clearly how progressive and brave the Brontë

What The Dickens? The Misadventures of Charles Dickens Thu 2 – Sat 4 Oct • 8pm • Full £12 Concs £10 • Professional Theatre Thursday 2nd & Friday 3rd October – Special Preview Performances – Tickets £10/£8 Young Charles Dickens is a rookie reporter on The Morning Chronicle. Whilst investigating the foggy slums of Ye Olde London Towne, he accidently stumbles on a story that could make his reputation. Follow our hero on the adventure of a lifetime! This inventive and gripping comedy features just three actors playing over 20 roles in 80 minutes of fast-paced fun and thrilling action. Brimming with unfeasibly quick costume changes, stupidly surreal characters and wonderfully daft jokes, What The Dickens? is the most absurd contribution to the Dickens legend you could hope to see. Having delighted audiences over the past few years with their hit shows, Is That A Bolt In Your Neck?, Grimm And Grimmer and I’m An Aristocrat, Get Me Out Of Here!, Gonzo Moose are back with something to entertain the whole family.

The Memory of Water By Shelagh Stephenson Wed 8 – Sat 11 Oct • 7:30pm • Full £10 Concs £8 • Community Theatre After spending their lives avoiding each other, three sisters are forced to meet up in the family home on the eve of their mother’s funeral. Combining a dangerous cocktail of whisky, weed and various health supplements, the memories of the past distort, and the three begin to realise that rather than throwing off their mother’s influence, they may be, in fact, diluted versions of the very woman they thought they’d escaped. Shelagh Stephenson’s play is an extremely funny and poignant rollercoaster ride through that strange world we know as family.

Robin Ince is (In and) Out of his Mind Sun 12 Oct • 4pm and 8pm • Full £14 Concs £12 • Comedy Robin Ince – Sony Gold Award winning comedian and science enthusiast (Infinite Monkey Cage with Prof Brian Cox, Radio 4) – presents another in his line of unhinged stand up comic lectures. After dabbling in Darwin and Feynman, and cleaning out Schrodinger’s Cat, Robin now delves into his mind and possibly your mind too. From Freud and Jung to Laing and Milgram, from rats after rewards to insanity cured by ink spots, Robin looks at the last 100 years of psychiatry, psychology and skewiff brain dabblings. Just how hard is it being a self-conscious being on planet earth. Come along, he may cure you.

Honest

By Alice Nicholas

Wed 15th & Thu 16th Oct • 8pm Full £12 Concs £10 • Professional Theatre One night of freedom. A locked cemetery. Three players. No rules. Maisie and Bel have known each other forever, but tonight there’s an intruder in their supposedly impenetrable friendship. Naive Coogan’s presence will push their bond to its very limits. No one knows how this night will end, but one thing’s for sure; none of them will ever be the same again. Honest. Written by emerging Bristol based writer, Alice Nicholas, Honest is a dramatic three-hander suitable for adults and young audiences alike. It’s darkly comic dialogue and atmospheric setting offers an engaging insight into the world of disaffected youth.

Living Spit

Elizabeth I: Virgin on the Ridiculous Fri 17 Oct • 8pm • Full £12 Concs £10 Professional Theatre / Comedy 1558. England. A country divided by religion and politics, teetering on the brink of civil war. The hopes of the nation lie with one Woman. 2013. England. A country divided by those who enjoy plays featuring men in dresses and those who don’t. The hopes of the nation lie with two Bristolian actors. But Howard Coggins and Stuart Mcloughlin can no longer rely on apparent physical resemblances to Tudor monarchs. They’ve done Henry VIII, and the truth is neither of them look like anyone else. Stu’s agent has just dumped him and Howard’s aspirations of being a proper serious actor are slowly being quashed by his constantly having to go up to London for relentless commercial castings. Things are bad. With more live original music, silly songs, smutty shenanigans, perfunctory props, and hysterically historical horseplay, this promises to be (another) poorly researched lesson in Tudor history that you’ll never forget.

Robert Newman’s New Theory of Evolution Sat Oct 18 • 8pm • Full £14 Concs £12 • Comedy Comedian, journalist, novelist and activist Rob Newman makes a hotly anticipated return to comedy with his first complete show in seven years. Rob describes the 150-year controversy in evolutionary theory and explores how the latest science demonstrates that DNA is not destiny. From a Devil’s Orchard made by lemon ants, to female buffalo voting which way to go, from Prince Kropotkin escaping a Tsarist dungeon to altruistic vampire bats and Richard Dawkins’ postman wrestling naked, Rob Newman argues that cooperation drives evolution more than competition.

Bath Operatic & Dramatic Society

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest By Dale Wasserman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey Tue 21 – Sat 25 Oct • 7.30pm • £12 • Community Theatre Funny, sad and at the same time thought provoking, this very hard hitting play takes place in a state mental hospital in the Pacific Northwest of America. A new inmate, the very extroverted Randal P McMurphy, is introduced to the other patients. However, the ward is governed by the assertive and domineering Nurse Ratched who rules the roost. McMurphy is not having any of it and incites the other patience to rebellion. There is a battle of wills: but who will come out on top? And who will fall along the way? The award winning Bath Operatic and Dramatic Society is one of the leading amateur groups in Bath performing in small venues in and around Bath and also performing a show once a year at the Theatre Royal Bath.

By Joseph Heller

Wed 5 – Sat 8 Nov • 7:30pm • Full £10 Concs £8 Community Theatre

Joseph Heller’s own stage adaptation of his iconic satirical novel Catch-22 portrays the brutal insanity of war with bitter, stinging humour. But who else will go?” Playing Up Theatre Company bring over 40 characters from this intensively brilliant satire to the stage in a story with recognition for all of us, coping with the lunacy present in our day to day systems.

The Real Inspector Hound and The Open Couple By Tom Stoppard and Dario Fo Wed 26 – Sat 29 Nov • 7.30pm • Full £10 Concs £8 Community Theatre Two one act plays and an evening of metadramatic farce for consenting adults: plays within plays – plays whose starting point is us, the audience, watching plays… Tom Stoppard’s hilarious spoof on the classic country-house who-dunnit thriller takes on an extratheatrical dimension of spoofiness when the lives of the two theatre critics, Birdboot and Moon, observing the play that we are watching, become mortally entangled with what’s onstage. It’s theatre critics wot dunnit! Pirandello 2 Stoppard 20. Dario Fo’s The Open Couple offers a different kind of metadramatic fun with an equally classic formula – the battle of the sexes. In a farce that openly invites the audience to polish their rolling pins, the flour dust never settles. Strongly recommended for divorcees and newly weds – and prejudiced audiences.
