Summertime… … and The Rondo has the hottest shows around. This season really sizzles, with fabulous theatre from Black Fish, Folio, Tin Shed, European Arts, Reform & Cameryn Moore, as well as the delightful first show from children’s theatre specialists, Light & Lark. There’s delightful music too, from Louise Jordan, Keith James, Bath Opera and the crisply witty Songs of Noël Coward. Our fabulous community theatre groups really step up the pace this season, with some outstanding shows that stretch the barrier of what non-professionals can achieve - and if you’ve never seen a musical on The Rondo’s intimate stage, then check out the likes of Spare Room, Exit Stage Left & The Big Act. Add in some brilliant comedy from the likes of Susan Calman, Rob Newman, Robin Ince and Mark Thomas, and you have the recipe for the perfect summer. Ian McGlynn Theatre Director

KEITH JAMES

The Songs of Nick Drake Fri 22 May • 8pm • Full £14 Concs £12 • Acoustic Music Nick Drake is the most revered and truly loved of all of this Country’s singer/songwriters. He recorded three cherished Albums between 1969 and 1972 but was almost entirely unknown in his day. After his tragic death in 1974 aged only 26 his music almost disappeared into obscurity. Now, thanks to a massive resurgence of interest on a worldwide scale, re-evaluating his Life and his genius, Nick Drake has become a National treasure. An important book, Remembered for a While, has just been released, written by his elder Sister, Gabrielle Drake. This expansive volume throws light on many shadowy corners of mystery and supposition. A number of years have now passed since Singer/Guitarist Keith James paralysed the whole Country with The Songs of Nick Drake. This new concert will have, as far as can be possible, a fresh and rewarding setlist.

“Some of the most atmospheric and emotive music you will ever hear.” The Independent “a sensitive and pleasingly understated delivery, all the better that the songs might speak for themselves.” Acoustic Magazine “an absolute must.” Mark Radcliffe BBC Radio

Keith James: Always Sat 11 Jul • 8pm • Full £14 Concs £12 • Acoustic Music Performing in its entirety, his brand new original Album, entitled Always. These 10 original songs (apart from Hiring Fair by Ralph McTell), meticulously written and arranged, have come together slowly over the past 10 years or so and have matured with a strong sense of both personal and collective awareness, a tone that has been caught through older eyes; surreal, sub-textural and three dimensional, showing anger and disturbance, humour, resolve, vision and compelling sadness. Expect an amazing concert! Keith currently has a worrying heart condition. Proceeds from this concert and sales of this new Album will be deposited separately in the event that Keith requires an operation.
