And TicketSource also offers a Physical Ticket printing option so you can have the tickets posted to you for that ‘Retro’ Experience – handy if you don’t have access to a printer or mobile phone, or if you’d like to gift tickets to someone else. She’d like you to join her on your own journey of rediscovery too, so she’s simultaneously running a performance and a workshop called… How To Reappear. Thought-provoking, humorous and ultimately uplifting, this show opens its arms to anyone anywhere who might be struggling, for whatever reason, to regain a sense of self. Come with pockets. Damian Kingsley: The Knock Knock Comedy Tour 120 nights. No money. No transport. Thu 28 April • 8pm • Free, collection at end in aid of Shelter • Comedy Stand-up comic Damian Kingsley is set to travel penniless from Land’s End to Edinburgh on a 120 gig tour to raise money for the homeless charity Shelter. Shows are free entry with a voluntary donation to Shelter at the end. He won’t be able to use any money or public transport so he’s hoping to be given shelter, food and maybe a few lifts on the road to Edinburgh – in return he’ll tell jokes to anyone anywhere, from the Nags Head to Granny’s front room, for the basic necessities so many people have to do without every day. You can support the tour by coming to a show, donating online, spreading the word, hosting a show or even giving Damian something he needs for the journey, like food or jokes. The aim of the tour is to raise at least £7,000 by 29 August. The tour started on 24 March 2016 and finishes at the Edinburgh fringe in August, where all donations will also go to Shelter. It sounds like a wrong tennis score, but Twenty Fifteen was a hugely significant year for one of Scotland’s best (and best loved) stand-up comedians. Back on the road again after 18 years at BBC Radio Scotland, Fred looks back on family life at home… and forward to how his country will shape up after the referendum of 2014. In his first tour since 2012 and with a new show, as well as looking backwards and forwards he’ll probably look sideways at politics, sport, the environment and without this sounding too like a brief for a newspaper, there will undoubtedly be a colour supplement with a look at ‘celebrity’. Gwenda, a recovered agoraphobic, leads a self-help group of three who have been unable to leave their homes for a variety of reasons. She forces them to help at a local bazaar, enlisting the ‘support’ of Fliss, a trainee social-worker. While sorting through the rummage, their individual fears erupt – will Gwenda’s experiment help them or make matters worse? Bazaar and Rummage is being performed for just one night at the Rondo as part of our first mini-tour.

Tír na nÓg Thu 9 Jun • 8pm • Full £14 Concs £12 • Music Tír na nÓg, the alt folk duo formed by Leo O’Kelly & Sonny Condell in Dublin in 1970, caused a sensation both on the folk and rock scenes almost as soon as they landed off the boat train to Britain. Even before signing with Chrysalis records that summer they already had established themselves in the London folk clubs, with their impromptu appearances and magical original songs. Their music, which is often described as psychedelic folk, was championed by John Peel, resulting in many Peel sessions. Last year marked the 40th birthday of their debut album, and they have recently released a new album, Live At Sirius, which features many of their timeless songs from the three Chrysalis albums, including their version of Nick Drake’s Free Ride, reputedly the only song of Nick’s covered in his short lifetime. Always renowned for their captivating live performances, a quality which has only been enhanced in the intervening years… hardly surprising for a duo whose name translates as Land Of Eternal Youth!

Jane Austen’s novel is brought to life on stage as we follow her journey from idle interference in the romantic lives of her friends and acquaintance to genuine love and understanding. Jane Austen described Emma as ‘a heroine whom no one but myself will much like’ – however, it is for all her flaws that she is so endearing. All profits from this production will be donated to Bath Cat and Dogs Home.

Mark Thomas: Red Shed Red Shed is the third part in a trilogy that started with the multi award winning shows Bravo Figaro and Cuckooed. Sun 3 Jul • 7pm & 9pm • Full £10 • Comedy Mark returns to the place where he first started to perform in public, a red wooden shed in Wakefield, the Labour Club, to celebrate the club’s 50th birthday. Interviewing old friends and comrades Mark pieces together the club’s history and works with the club to campaign with some of the poorest workers in the country for their rights. It is the story of the battle for hope and the survival of a community in a small wooden shed. It is part theatre, part stand up, part journalism, part activism and returns to Mark’s obsessions of community and struggle. The show will involve the audience (in a nice way) to help recreate the shed and its inhabitants.

Madame Butterfly By Giacomo Puccini Fri 8 & Sat 9 Jul • 7.30pm • Full £14 Concs £12 • Opera In 1901, it was not unusual for an American naval officer to undergo a form of marriage with a Japanese Geisha: the marriage was understood to be short-term and the Geisha returned (a little richer) to the fold of her family and her profession. But when the young and naive Cho-Cho-San marries Lieutenant Pinkerton, she dedicates herself completely to him, renouncing Buddhism and as a consequence being disowned by her family. Three years later, living with his child in poverty, she steadfastly clings to the hope he will return. But when he does, it is with an American wife, and when he learns that he has a son, they want to take him back to America. Cho-Cho-San sadly concedes he would have a better life there and having lost the two people she loved, resigns herself to death with honour and dignity. Puccini described it as his most “deeply-felt and imaginative” opera. Sung in English. The Musical Director is Peter Blackwood and Stage Direction is by Jane Clark. The title role is played by Sophie Kirk-Harris, and Pinkerton is played by Nick Chiappetta.

Dogfight Music and lyrics by Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, book by Peter Duchan Thu 14 – Sat 16 Jul • 7.30pm Full £12 Concs £10 • Community After another award winning year Exit Stage Left return to the Rondo with their version of the musical Dogfight based on the popular River Phoenix film. Praised by critics and nominated for several awards and winner of the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, Dogfight takes place in 1963 focusing on three young marines on the eve of their deployment. During their final night of partying in the States, Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress who he enlists to win a cruel bet with his buddies. But Rose turns the tables and brings the power of love and compassion to Eddie’s life. Inspiring with a score that is hauntingly beautiful, Dogfight is memorable with its charming soul.

The Remains of Tom Lehrer Performed by Adam Kay Wed 20 Jul • 8pm • Full £14 Concs £12 Comedy / Music The satirical songs of Tom Lehrer have delighted and horrified audiences for decades, both through his own rare, acerbic performances and in the revue format of the West End and New York hit show Tomfoolery. In September 2015, Adam Kay premiered his new take on Lehrer’s songbook at St James Theatre in London, with everything from pigeon poisoning to masochistic tango via nuclear oblivion being revisited from the contemporary perspective of this award-winning performer. Summer Term Ages 7 – 14 4.45pm – 6pm £80 Rondo Drama Club is a unique experience where your children are encouraged to share their creative ideas and work together to use the best of them to devise a totally original play. They then get the chance to improvise, rehearse and, finally, perform it under the lights on the famous Rondo Stage. The sessions are run by Paulo Baigent, an experienced theatre director, educator and drama workshop leader. Rondo Drama Club’s weekly sessions take place at St. Stephen’s School, Lansdown with dress rehearsals and end of term performances at the Rondo Theatre itself. At Rondo Drama Club we are committed to raising confidence and self-esteem in a fun and nurturing environment. So if your children are into drama, love to have fun, are full of ideas and eager to share them, then book them in for our next term at The Rondo Drama Club.

Become A Rondo Volunteer Acting as a Rondo Theatre volunteer is a great way of getting closer to the theatre, music, comedy and other fantastic events on offer at this fantastic venue. In return, you get to see the shows for free, as well as to make new friends and socialise.
Our volunteers work mainly as bar staff or on front of house and are an essential part of the success of The Rondo. Volunteering normally means working on two or three shows a month.
