Very Traditional Illustration of Othello Literal in its depiction, similar to most illustrations that come within a Play Script that comes with pictures Uses a WoodBlock printing method that mimics the methods used in tudor times, to complement the text by creating imagery that mimics the same Shakespearian atmosphere. strong use of dark and light contrast in both framing both Othello and Desdemona and skin tone !
Vilijam Šekspir •
A more modern and simplistic take than the previous image
•
more focused on general composition and metaphors as well
•
Use of type and face to create a dual meaning poster.
•
Makes me think more about the impact of seemingly simplistic but well executed imagery
Cactus Communications •
Similar to the previous imagery this image uses a limited colour plate and has few shapes.
•
The smart use of composition and the well thought out motif of the eye creates a more abstract approach to othello than the other two
•
However this use of quite a unique and abstract motif could be let on most people who don’t have and in-depth knowledge of the play.
Rich Nelson •
The use of shape in this image create shadows and strong silhouettes which allows for a heavily dramatised othello and a small but striking desdemona.
•
The Textured background works well with the solid shape.
•
Although the stripes on the shirt are a good use of using pattern to draw the eye away from Othello to Desdemona. The scolloped pattern on his coat detracts from the image and ands a lot of unnecessary visual noise to the image.
Manuja Waldia •
Use of blue is an underused colour in Shakespearian imagery and allows the image to distinguish itself from other Shakespearian imagery.
•
Great use of motifs and symbolisms used to describe the play without the use of character or figure. •
Clean line work against solid background creates a solid focus in the image.
Yudori •
This image depicts the more personal and complex relationship
•
I love the colour context reversal, seen as white as and evil corrupting power that damages the blackness of othello.
•
The bold us of Black blends one into the other depicting how Iago's obsession with Othello entwines both their fates.
