This is a self-parking area with easy access to street-side viewing. Please arrive by 12pm; the street will close when the Parade steps off at 1pm. Festival Access: There will be accessible parking available through our Pride Access partner Trillium Health in their parking lot at 259 Monroe Ave, Rochester NY 14607. There will be a shuttle with a wheelchair lift operated by Medical Motors, which will transport festival-goers between the Festival site and the Trillium Health parking lot. The shuttle will run from 1-8pm on Saturday, July 18th. Picnic Access: Accessible parking for the Picnic will again be provided in the “lower lot” at Genesee Valley Park. A handicap permit is required to use this lot. If you are new to the picnic, please ask the parking attendants for directions as you enter the park. John White

Grand Marshall

Rochester Pride is proud to announce the Grand Marshall for 2015 is wonderful John White. Here are some words he would like to share with everyone: Almost a decade ago when Equal=Grounds Coffee House opened on South Avenue in Rochester, my business partner Harry Bronson and I could have not hoped for a better welcome from our Rochester community. It all started about 2 years before we opened when Harry and I were sitting around on a weekend afternoon trying to come up with something to do for the day. As liberal as the Rochester community was, we were hard pressed to find something social to do as an openly gay couple during the day. Aside from the clubs, the occasionally GLBT friendly restaurant that would pop in and out of existence, and Pride events in our and surrounding cities, there was little else for us to do while being able to express open affection for each other in a public setting and feel safe. And so therein was born the idea of a GLBT owned and operated coffee house where same sex couples could go any time of the day and evening, and have the freedom to behave as any straight couple did, without fear of retribution. In effect, to invite the GLBT life style into the daylight. So on May 5, 2006 the doors to Equal=Grounds were opened to the public and became what it is today. We could not have imagined or wished for a better reception from the entire community, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Trans AND Straight! What began as an idea to provide safe space for the GLBT community quickly became a neighborhood hub for the entire Rochester community, regardless of sexual orientation. We are host to all kinds of families and groups, both local and from beyond our city. We are proud to be a meeting place for support groups, politicians, famous actors and authors, news media, college students, and the average Joe (or Joyce) who just want a comfortable and safe place to enjoy locally roasted coffees and baked goods while feeling at ease to be oneself, whoever that may be. Opening Equal=Grounds has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It is an enormous honor and quite humbling to be invited to participate in this year’s Pride Parade as the Grand Marshall, and all for doing a job that I love and look forward to daily. While I perform the day to day operations of Equal=Grounds which puts me as the more recognizable business owner, I would not have, nor could not have done it without the many behind the scenes operations and responsibilities performed by my business partner and closest friend, Harry Bronson. He and I are both enormously grateful for the support, and love expressed to us regularly by our amazing customers whom we have come to know and cherish, and without which we would not be here. To our most wonderful staff, customers, community and allies, THANK YOU one and all…and HAPPY PRIDE 2015!

Cazwell Cazwell is an openly gay artist. His work focuses on gay and bisexual urban themes and content. Perhaps the first gay white rapper and break dancer to gain a national following, Cazwell is a born entertainer. With a surprisingly sophisticated sense of humor and apparently not a single shirt in his wardrobe, Cazwell wry parodies of New York club culture with sizzling energy, dazzling moves and lots of eye candy. His outrageously fun music videos have successfully went viral and launched him into pop stardom. Such hits as “Ice Cream Truck,” “Rice and Beans” and “No Selfie Control”

18th

Cazwell has always been a “Hot Homo” as his recent gay parody of a summer rap anthem points out. Never holding back he speaks about this song: “Hot Homo is no more overtly sexual than what I hear on any given hip-hop radio station,” he explained. “The point of the song is that gay men should feel as entitled to express themselves sexually as straight guys. That’s been my message since I dropped ‘All Over Your Face’ single in 2006” When Cazwell was asked about how he felt about the upcoming summer he said “I’m excited to get back into the swing of performing all these Pride shows and to connect with the audience and sing some new songs.” Cazwell’s music videos are frequently played on Logo, a cable channel geared towards the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. With music that comprises the genres of Hip-Hop, Rap, Dance, electronica, house and homo hop there is a great selection of fun beats. In addition to performing Cazwell recently launched the Ice Cream Truck underwear line, which can be found www.icecreamtruck.bigcartel.com.

FuturPointe Dance is a genre bending Rochester, New York based dance theater company, created in 2009 by founding artistic producers/choreographers, N’Jelle Gage and Guy Thorne. FuturPointe Dance is Contemporary. Urban. Global. Its dance vocabulary is Reggae Ballet™ - inspired by the rhythms, vibe, and swagger of Reggae music and Rastafarian culture and philosophy. Its dancers are some of the most expressive and technically excellent dancers in the field. FuturPointe is as committed to connecting to diverse communities in innovative and meaningful ways as it is to imaginative artistic collaborations, and production and movement invention. FuturPointe Dance’s work is characterized by a sensory, multi-genre repertoire born of a sophisticated fusion of traditional and modern Caribbean dance forms, ballet, and Latin vocabulary. The company’s repertoire incorporates elements of media, fashion, and provocative performance art to produce an unusual and emotionally transporting dance experience.

d a y ,

For those who haven’t heard you, how would you characterize your style and music? I have always had trouble with that, but someone once said it was “American Music.” I guess that makes the Americana tag work. I grew up in West Tennessee, the birthplace of blues and R&B. I added that to my love of folk music and the Beatles and got my music.

Jul y

Saturday July 18th

Dianne Davidson

What song(s) shows off your style more than others? Another tough question. I love so many styles of music that I would need a few “best” songs. For blues, it has to be “Built For Comfort.” For ballads? “Tonight, I’ll Dream That You Care.” On social media you have numerous pictures of you with some of the best in the industry. Who would you say were your biggest musical influences -- and how did they influence you? I would say my early influences are the ones that really shaped me. The main ones were Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Peter, Paul and Mary, Marvin Gaye, Mahalia Jackson, and The Beatles. See what I mean?

18th

Where did you grow up? What lifelong characteristics would you say growing up there developed in you? I grew up in a beautiful county on the Tennessee River. I learned to love nature and to value honesty and courage. I would say that my parents and a few others were the ones who taught me to think and be open-minded. We are lifelong Democrats.

NY Times: “A strong voiced, gospel-influenced belter. She is most compelling.”

What would you say is the biggest difference in your birthplace from when you left? I never felt so much anger in people. It seems as if there are a lot of people who hate and despise entire groups of their neighbors. It’s also sad to see the small towns lose their financial vibrancy. They all wanted Wal-mart. Now they bemoan the loss of the Mom and Pop stores such as the drugstore my Dad had while I was growing up Have you always been out? Was it difficult coming out in the music industry? Always? It feels that way. <smile> I realized early on that I felt a deep emotional attraction to women. I also knew some very nice men, but ultimately felt I could not be happy unless I lived my queer life to its fullest potential. It wasn’t hard coming out in the music industry but it was damned hard to work after that! I am proud that I have the respect of my peers after all these years, but the industry wasn’t ready for an out Lesbian in 1972. What’s the area that you think has advanced the most since 1965? Which should have advanced but has disappointed you? I think the marriage issue has surprised me. Considering how dangerous it was to even go to a bar in the early seventies, I am amazed there are samesex couples getting married right here in North Carolina. I would say I am disappointed in humankind in general. While we would obviously benefit from sharing the burden, people still seem hell-bent on creating division. I can definitely hear part Ella when you sing. Is there anyone that you feel you are channeling at times? I would love to have a really cool, creative answer to that, but honestly, no. The music happens somewhere in my psyche and comes out of my mouth, when it all works right! I do feel the most kinship to Mahalia, although I would never put myself in her league.

Happy Pride Rochester!!!

Saturday July 18th

You lived in Rochester for some time. How did you find your time here? What lasting impressions and learnings did you take from here? I met some great folks here. I lived quietly, working in the corporate world as I had left Nashville to get a break from the music industry. However, I am a born and bred Southerner and will always long to put my bare feet in Southern soil. I miss Wegmans, though.

mrs. Kasha davis Coffee Talk with Mrs. Kasha Davis - by Michael Lill

The fabulous Mrs. Kasha Davis, fresh off RuPaul’s Drag Race (Season 7), sat down with me to reflect on where she’s been and what lies ahead. This celebrity housewife relocated from Scranton, PA to Rochester, NY and has never looked back.

18th

“I love the community and the life I have here!” She has a loving husband, Steve, and two wonderful daughters Melissa and Jessica. Recently, the family welcomed their newest member, Max - a precious husky. Her family is the most important part of her life and as she spoke lovingly you could tell there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them. Her drag persona is influenced by the likes of the housewives of yester year. The greats such as Ethel Merman & Lucille Ball serve as inspiration for Mrs. Kasha Davis. Her one-woMAN show “There’s Always Time for Cocktail” echoes these comedy legends and adds flare only she could bring to

the stage. Currently she is refining the production and will soon schedule some new performances. RuPaul’s Drag Race has opened new doors for this diva including this year’s first DragCon held in LA. She was absolutely amazed by all the attendees. From 10 year olds with their parents up to more mature fans. With all of that energy and all of that electricity in the air, she was reminded of how powerful these performances are on the public. Just as those role models in her past influenced her, the next generation is looking to current stars and hopefully drawing on inspiration as well. Mrs. Kasha Davis will be joining us as the drag headliner for Rochester Pride 2015. If you can’t wait until then to catch some of her sassy flavor, you can always check out her debut single “Cocktail”! The future is bright for this charismatic artist, and Rochester is glad we can call her one of our own! And remember everyone; Kasha is here to remind us “There’s always time for a cocktail!” Happy Pride!
