With “Maria Clara” as LOSA 2014’s given theme, the collection is about recreating the Filipiniana and translating it into street wear. It reflects our country’s tradition but reconstructed and redesigned to fit with today’s trends. It is inspired by the minimalist and architectural aesthetics: lines, figures, and silhouettes.

Runway / Sketches
There are elements taken from our country’s national attire Barong Tagalog and Filipiniana, like the pina silk fabric and butterfly sleeves. But this collection also appreciates the rich culture of Mindanao with the T’nalak treatment of the Tiboli tribe. Infused together to create a bold statement.

In the novel Noli me Tangere, Jose Rizal described María Clara as the most beautiful and widely celebrated lady in the town of San Diego. She was the epitome of virtue, “demure and self-effacing” and endowed with beauty, grace and charm, and promoted by Rizal as the “ideal image”of a Filipino woman who deserves to be placed on the “pedestal of male honour.” Its been more than a hundred years, yet a lot still regard Maria Clara as the true standard of a real Filipino woman.
