Hi, is this Dewi? Yes, who’s speaking? This is Duke from the Phillipines. I heard a giant earthquake happened this morning. Are you okay? I am fine, Duke. Appreciate your calling. Ah. I haven’t seen the news yet. Aceh is pretty far, but our friend Rahmat lives there. Ah ya. I hope he is fine. Sending good thoughts. I hope he is too. Let me call him later. Thanks a lot, Duke. Send my regards to your family. Bye Dewi, take care.

On December 26, 2004 a massive 9.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Indian Ocean offshore Sumatra island, resulting a devastating tsunami. Aceh, a province in the south part of Indonesia was the worst hit region with over 170,000 people lost their lives. Ratnasari Dewi worked in Aceh during the post-tsunami rebuilding and recovery period. She met her husband, Saiful a native Acehnese, a survivor from the disaster, while working there as an aid worker. They now live in Jakarta with their son.
