The polar bear by caleb

Prolog The icy cold snow surrounded him. The bellowing wind broke his eardrums. Thud! Thud! Thud! Went his footsteps. Then CRASH! Everything went black . . .

Chapter 1 The noise of the rotor blades cut out every other noise, even the noise of the howling wind outside. “Where would you like to land Tima”? Asked the pilot, Ross. “Just east of Mt Simabong please”. “Yes sir” said Ross. Tima had dark hair as straight as a pencil. He spent all of his spare time studying dangerous animals. He was so thin that he could easily slip through a space thirty centimeters wide.

But he was as strong as he was wide. Lots of people became his friend as soon as they met him and he wasn’t even afraid of a charging elephant. He also had a great taste for adventure. They were just east of Mt Simabong when he saw a flat ledge of snow three quarters of the way down the mountain. “Good place to land” said Ross. “I spotted it to’ said Tima. Prrrrr. Now the noise of the rotor blades were loud, really loud.

They nearly burst his eardrums. Prrrrrr. The noise of the rotor blades stopped, they had landed. One of the camera crew opened the door for him. As Tima stepped outside he knew instantly that he would never find a polar bear den in this deserted waste land.

“I think we should go by ski-mobile” said Tima. “I agree” said Sam, the captain of the camera crew. “But the truck will arrive tomorrow night with the ski-mobiles so we’ll have to walk. See if we can find a den anyway”. Tima started walking away, up the mountain. Then CRASH! Everything went black . . .

Chapter 2 Grrr. Grrr. A noise was coming from one corner of the cave but all he could see was a big white rock. Grrrrr. It came again, louder this time. Tima stepped towards the growling noise. Then he spotted a black nose and black eyes staring ferociously at him.

Tima saw three inch long claws. Suddenly he realised that the big white rock was a mother polar bear! He decided to name it Sitan. Then Sitan reared up on all fours. She towered three feet high at the shoulder. Sitan bared her teeth at Tima.

He saw two inch long canines. But one thing puzzled him, why was she growling? Tima slowly backed away and stumbled on something curled up on the ground . . .

Chapter 3 Cute, black eyes stared up at him. A light grey nose sniffed Tima enthusiastically. Pure white fur as snuggly as silk covered the baby polar bears body. Stinky breath blew onto his face. Sharp teeth outlined the cubs mouth. Tima thought and thought of a name and finally called him Simba.

But he had other problems to deal with. Grrrrr! Sitan rose up, her white fur trembling. Prrrrrr. Tima recognised that noise, it was the helicopter. He was saved! Sam hacked his way through the snow blocking the entrance. “Hi Tima” he said with a smile. “Want to come out now”? Tima climbed through the hole. He squinted in the suns glare.

Chapter 4 Prrrrr. The rotor blades were extremely loud. “Have a good time in the polar bear den” chuckled Sam. “No not really,” said Tima “But it was a great adventure”.
