Welcome It’s not about the shoes, or the cake, or the centerpieces. A wedding is about two people amongst 7 billion who have chosen to bind themselves singularly to one another. A Roots Wedding revolves around those two people. For one day, they are the center of our world, and it is perfect.

story of

roots We have always been artists, but we have not always been together. Roots Creative is our outlet and our family. Our members are hand-selected not only for their expert skills, but also for their passion for people. Before, we were off doing our own thing and running our own businesses. But... that was lonely, so we joined forces. Rather than compete with each other, we decided to work side-by-side. Now we are a team. There is love, and beer, and coffee, and tattoos, and weddings, and art, and laughter. Life is good.

Michigan

Any wedding within an hour of Kalamazoo, Michigan does not include extra travel fees. We love the Great Lakes and the culture of the area. That’s why we have a “base” in Kalamazoo. Plus, one of our founders is a local and knows the BEST photo locations around town. A little less than half of our clients usually come from the Mitten.

indiana

Shake up the schedule First Looks and All That Jazz Wedding day scheduling is an art. All the planning in the world can’t prevent that one groomsman or bridesmaid from running 15 precious minutes late, or Dad getting stuck in traffic. That’s the great thing about ROOTS- we’ve seen it all and can roll with whatever the day brings. Still, if you’re the kind of couple who wants to cut down on potentially stressful situations, there are some great timeline options that are becoming increasingly popular. First looks are all the rage. For couples who would like to get all of their photos out of the way before the ceremony, First Looks are an excellent option. They allow the Bride and Groom to support each other in person for the majority of their wedding day and get everyone to the reception quickly. Guests don’t have to wait. The couple gets to help each other stay calm, and the bridal party is all in one place for photos. It’s a surprisingly simple set up. We lead the groom to a place where he awaits his bride

with eyes covered and back turned. Then, we bring the bride to join him, and the moment he turns around, our cameras start a clickin’. Some of my favorite shots have been taken during First Looks! We absolutely understand why people wait after the ceremony, but it is an option for couples who like a more laid back approach. Another option is a Day After or Trash the Dress Session. They are fun ways to spend a little more time getting the crazy-artistic, magnificent, jaw-dropping shots that are impossible on the wedding day. Put back on that wicked expensive dress, and let’s get some use out of it! We could go to the fair in the summer, the forest in autumn, fields of wild flowers in the spring, or sledding in winter. After all, we might not have time to get the perfect beach shot in the limited time between ceremony and reception, but by-golly, we can make it happen the day after! -Rachel Whitehurst
