Distributor Product Briefing Sheet

SonarBell® Cased Products Product descriptions and content SonarBell® cased products are sets of SonarBells and other carefully selected ancillary products supplied together, at advantageous prices, to facilitate sales to clients with specific applications. This briefing pack describes the various sets, their content and applications.    

SUMMS – SonarBell® Underwater Mine Marking System SETS - SonarBell® Equipment Tracking System SPATS - SonarBell® Performance and Training System SEEARS - SonarBell® Entry, Exit and Recovery System

Many of the sets will require ballast to anchor the SonarBell® to the seabed, and SALT Ltd can provide lead shot for this purpose; however we recognize that shipping costs for lead will be significant and it may be much more cost effective for distributors to source this item locally. Any set with a “C” suffix includes the lead ballast; sets with “D” suffix will be supplied without it for local inclusion by distributors. Further information on any of the Cased Product sets described may be obtained from the distributor’s area of the SALT website or from: Price or commercial: sales@cesalt.co.uk

SUMMS Benefits:   

 

Value – SUMMS set is significantly cheaper than buying components individually; Very low non-acoustic signature for safe use in MCM and mine clearance operations; Greater target strength than conventional mine-markers (icosahedron or gas filled stainless steel sphere); Easier and safer to handle and deploy than conventional targets (as above); Less expensive than icosahedron.

SUMMS Applications: 

Technical: technicalinfo@cesalt.co.uk SUMMS – SonarBell® Underwater Mine Marking System (SUMMS-4C, SUMMS-4D)

Mine / ordnance seabed marking prior to disposal; Marking other seabed objects.

SonarBell® has a very low non-acoustic signature which makes it an ideal device for marking mines, ordnance or other objects for subsequent exploitation or destruction. The SonarBell® acoustic signature is much greater (size for size) than traditional mine markers made of aluminum or stainless steel which also present significant handling difficulties compared to SonarBell®. All other parts of the SUMMS set are chosen to have low influence signatures and to provide everything needed to mark up to four seabed objects. Roper Resources Ltd

SETS Benefits:    

Value – Each SETS kit is cheaper than buying components individually; Proven tracking of mobile vehicles at significant ranges; Low weight in water allows low impact on platform or diver performance; Simple yet robust fixing method.

SETS Applications:   

Marking of high value AUV/ROV assets against possible loss; Tracking underwater vehicle progress or position; Marking divers for tracking or monitoring.

SPATS - SonarBell® Performance and Training System (SPATS-2C, 5C, 11C and SPATS-2D, 5D, 11D) SPATS sets enable Swimmer Detection Sonar (SDS) operators to determine instantaneously and continuously the real performance of the sonar which they are operating by using SonarBells® as range markers providing information on a ping by ping basis allowing ultimate confidence in the system performance. The greater numbers of range markers deployed, the more detailed range information that may be observed. SPATS also enables online training for operators to be conducted with only a small boat; a towed SonarBell® may be used to provide a representative (diver-like), moving underwater target to exercise target recognition or tracking systems without the cost or risks of using divers. Other representative targets (e.g. Swimmer Delivery Vehicle like) can be made available on request. Roper Resources Ltd

SPATS-2C is the “basic” set, containing one 200mm range marking SonarBell and one 100mm “diver target” SonarBell, along with all the necessary weights, clips, nets and so on in a protective case. There is only one version of this set as far as the end user is concerned, but there are two versions for SALT as it depends whether we supply direct to the customer or to a distributor. The reason for this is the contents of the weight bag (15kg of lead shot), where we will supply lead direct to customers, but not to distributors (to save shipping costs around the world); they can source their lead locally, consequently they are a different part number (SPATS2D) and different price. SPATS-5C will contain an additional three 200mm SonarBells (1 x 100mm, 4 x 200mm) for use as extra range markers. This is likely to be the most useful set to clients, but will require some “selling” on the benefits over the basic set (see below). SPATS-11C is the “fully loaded” set (1 x 100mm, 10 x 200mm) which matches with the graphics on the product leaflet showing a range marker every 100 metres. SPATS Benefits: 

Value – Each SPATS set offers a significant saving over buying the contents of the sets individually (e.g. SPATS-2C would cost a client over £3,400 as parts but is priced at only £2,680); Each SPATS set sold in 2011 will come with a SonarBell “upgrade”, in the sense that one of the 200mm SonarBells will come with a calibration certificate, enabling the customer to accurately determine the performance of their sonar system.

SEEARS - SonarBell® Entry, Exit and Recovery System (SEEARS-10)

SPATS Applications:    

Swimmer detection system performance (range)monitoring; Training for SDS operators, exercising tracking systems, a target every day; Troubleshooting: is the SDS working correctly, how many markers can the operator see; SPATS may also be used to exercise a hull mounted or towed sonar by running a boat over the range markers to determine range performance.

SonarBell® is capable of supporting combat swimmers during the entry, exit and recovery operational phases, acting as waypoints between compass bearings and marking the location of equipment caches for recovery during or after operations. It has been proven to reduce the time taken for a standard area search (by touch) in poor visibility from several tens of minutes down to less than five minutes. Marking the hatch to aid re-entry on a parent submarine is a further use for SEEARS. SEEARS sets content
