Antonia Salmon Raised in a household dedicated to sculpture and architecture, Antonia’s hand-built abstract smoke fired forms have poise and rhythm, stillness and dynamism.

Barbara Wood Hand built, burnished and saggar fired forms, subtly coloured with salts and oxides added in the kiln.

Beverley Porter ‘The 7 Deadly Sins’: Hand built unique sculptural ceramics from earthenware clay with the application of Delft style tin glaze.

Carl Gray Simple yet highly considered forms often juxtaposed against complex and rich wood fired surfaces.

Carolyn Corfield Carolyn pursues narrative threads using both figurative and vessel form, her riveted bowls acknowledging the legacy of the ironmasters.

David Wright David makes pots from coils or ropes of clay. The resulting work is wood fired to stoneware in his kiln in rural Leicestershire.

Dianne Cross Individual slab built stoneware inspired partly by West African adobe architecture and ‘worn away’ motifs, textiles and surface textures.

Eric Moss Eric creates one-off sculptures of assembled and nested naked raku and saggar fired raku components inspired by nature.

Eryl Fryer Similar but subtly different thrown forms are gently compressed together evolving into a unique form that has an element of surprise inviting further investigation.

Helen Graham Helen’s work explores the idea that belief, like gender, is a ‘product’ by using religious forms, symbols and packaging images.

Isabel K-J Denyer Isabel’s stoneware pots are made to be used, handled and be cooked in, this is integral to her work.

Jackie Needham Curious creatures tell their own stories, yet hold back secrets within Jackie’s mysterious menagerie; light and dark in equal measure.

James Faulkner James makes textured stoneware vessels and objects, inspired by and sensitively exploring nature’s erosional effects upon manmade objects over time.

Jenny Morten Jenny makes coil built vessels with contrasting inner and outer surfaces connected by knife-like edges which focus on the interplay of light, colour, and form.

Kathryn Watson Kathryn works freely and intuitively around an inner void to create unique organic forms.

Katie Braida Katie uses hand-building techniques to create individual works incorporating texture and a range of colours from oxides and glazes.

Penny Withers Penny’s ceramics explore the velocity of throwing and the residual energy in the finished piece; surfaces are enhanced with atmospheric combinations of glaze.

Stephen Green Stephen’s bowls and vessels are coil built stoneware, with hand applied decoration in the spirit of the Art Nouveau movement.

Sylvia Holmes Sylvia makes contemporary slipware, using layers of texture, line and colour to create evocative and tactile surfaces

Trudy Weir Laminated stoneware and coloured slips, stretched and slashed to produce interesting surface patterns on the slab built forms.

The aim of the NPA is to encourage and support artists in the production of sculptural, functional, fine art and decorative studio pottery in all its forms throughout the North of England. Membership is open to anyone and everyone with an interest in ceramics. We currently have about 450 members, mostly in the North of England. We publish a two-monthly newsletter, and organise a mix of open and selected exhibitions, plus demonstrations and workshops, throughout the year. The NPA is a not-for-profit organisation run by a committee of volunteers. www.northern-potters.co.uk
