Fondazione Pomodoro Academic project Designed in January 2011 The project is placed in Via Solari (MI), inside Fondazione Pomodoro. Me and my teamwork have imagined the space as an hybrid environment in which people could take a pause, read a book or do climbing activities thanks to specific structures. After this collective design phase, I was tasked to design the bookshop and the library area. I started from the concept of the gears which would remember the factory, thus the initial function of the building. Focusing on bookshop and library project, I have designed furniture, especially bookcases, inspired to the concept of gears. Tables are linked together to remember the idea of the assembly line, related to the factory.

Isola Pepe Verde Academic project Designed in June 2011 The project is located inside Isola quarter, near the Porta Garibaldi station, in Milan. It started from the need to have more and more green spaces for children and neighbors. The purpose was the regeneration of an abandoned public area. The space was designed to accommodate two playgrounds and a teaching garden. The chosen sports were bikepolo and minibasket. The teaching garden was designed for children but also for neighbors in order to give them the possibility to rediscover the value of healthy life style and food.

Ri-Abitare Bachelor degree thesis project Designed from January 2012 to July 2012 Nowadays the way of living the house is changed very much. Many people live alone and they look for a small, versatile and cheep accommodation. This is the starting point of the project in Don Luigi Sturzo street, Niguarda (MI). It aimed to renovate an old residential building, finding innovative solution for specific target, such us old men, divorced fathers with sons, young workers and so on. All the project was inspired by the methaphor of the elastic in order to achieve flexible and creative solutions. In fact the apartments are characterized by very special “elastic” walls. In this specific case, the “elastic” is represented in an aestethic way: the ostensible deformation of each wall, gives life to furniture all over the space, from bed to kitchen. Another interesting space, designed starting from the metaphor of the elastic, was the Elastic Space. The Elastic Space is a new flexible idea of collective environment. It is useful to create new relationships between users and to reconnect the old ones. In the project there were four different Eastic Spaces, each of which was refered to a specific sense. My Elastic Spase was dedicated to the sense of sight and was configured as a narrative space in which children can create with their imagination always new stories. Living the space, users change, modify and add new stories. This is possible thanks to proper furnitures in which there are represented images and words.

The table and chairs are characterized by other illustrations that contribute to place the fable. Finally, it is possible to lift and turn some tiles on the floor: they are illustrated with other images that could define the conclusion of the fairy tale.

Febo Professional project Designed from January 2015 to December 2015 Febo is a wooden paintbrush that lets you leave traces by focusing sun rays on different natural materials (wood, cardboard, cork, leather). Through the use of clean energy this analog engraver makes possible to draw and customize your belongings. The name derives from Phoebus (phoibos means “bright). It was used by both the Greeks and Romans to name Apollo, the god of light and sun. It was initially designed for MUSTshop - the concept store of the Science and Technology Museum Leonardo Da Vinci in Milan - during the course Innovation Studio at Politecnico di Milano. Then, in collaboration with Atellani, Febo was launched on Kickstarter, ending with a successful crowdfunding campaign. We followed all the project phases, from prototyping to shipping. http://www.febo.co/

febo timeline Febo was launched on July 2015, in collaboration with Atellani, on Kickstarter, a crowdfunding platform. The initial goal was set at $8,000, but the project has been successfully funded reaching $81,406 and passing the goal by over 1000%. Here there’s a timeline showing the entire process done together with Atellani, including the pre and post campaign. Even now it’s possible to buy the product thanks to different e-commerce platforms, easily available on the official Febo website.

febo components Febo consists of a wooden body and a lens. The top ring, made of different materials (plastic, copper, aluminum and others), has the function of blocking the lens and giving an aesthetic value to the object. Even the wood used for the body changes according to the ring material and determines the price of the final product. Each Febo comes with a pair of rollable lenses that provides 100% UV protection with only 6% to 8% visible light transmission. Moreover a set of stencils guide the user during the first realisations. As you can see from the exploded view the presence of a safety filter obstructs the sun’s rays, avoiding the accidental functioning of Febo when the product is not in use.

febo models Febo was developed in many different editions. In this way, buyers had the possibility to select their favourite one between several possibilities. The changing elements were: kind of wood, material of the top ring and the colour of the filter. We have designed two different series of Febo with different price. In fact, one was cheeper than the other because of the used materials. For the cheeper one we have used walnut wood with the top ring made of colored plastic. For the more expensive series we have used many wood species to let people decide their favourite one. In fact colors, textures and tactile perception are very different from one model to another. In this case, the used wood species were: zebrawood, bubinga, amaranth and mahogany. Each of them was combined with a specific top ring made of metal, such as copper, aluminium and brass.

Basic Edition

how to use febo After choosing the item to customize, you need always to keep the sun behind your back and tilt the surface perpendicularly to it. Once you have removed the safety filter, the lens absorbs the sun’s rays precisely into the selected material. Thanks to the design you are able to keep track and see clearly your drawing. The density of the stroke depends on the weather, every cloud will produce a different kind of trace, with different thickness and intensity making it unique.

1 Trace the drawings with the pencil

2 Always wear sunglasses

3 Remove the colored safety filter

4 Place the drawing surface at a 90° angle

- Febo positioning

febo artworks Febo is easy to use even without stencil. Following a pencil trace, it’s possible to create beautiful artworks. For these reason me and my teammates have realized many examples of final output, using different material (cork, leather, wood, cardboard). The results were always different and characterized by a unique value. Particularly important for the difficulty in their realization, were three artworks by Francesca Padovan (PDWN), one of Febo’s designers, called Skull Series.

Imaginaerum Academic workshop Designed in January 2014 Imaginaerum was born after a 24 hours academic workshop. Each student had at his disposal a wooden block in order to design a functioning tool by the end of the allotted time. Imaginaerum represents my workshop result. Imaginaerum is a simple toys to stimulate the children imagination. It is also a tool for learning to write, to read and compose the construct of a sentence. After you have written the words that you prefer, you can start to compose countless stories, reorganizing the wooden blocks.

Kis "Duo" Academic project Designed in May 2014 Duo is the result of an academic workshop of two days, developed in team. The client was Kis, a company specialized in the production of food packagings. The brief was to improve the user experience of the product thanks to innovative solutions. Me and my team have worded on the aesthetic side using colors and curved shapes and on the functional side finding a way to make the packaging hermetic. In fact Duo is composed by two parts that coincide ermetically between each other. The waves structure of the material increase the sense of closure, the material and the combination of colours make Duo a product pretty to see. As previously mentioned, the new design has not only aesthetic aims, but also functional.

My Flow - Moleskine Academic project Designed from October 2013 to December 2013 How will be the profile of workers in 20 years’ time? There are some trends that can answer this question. People want to be involved in many different experiences. Nowadays there are a lot of possibilities to manage time also without a stable work place. The number of freelance workers is continuously increasing, because they have the ability to jump from a job to another. The majority of freelancers (62%), work at the same time in 2 to 6 different projects. In a fluid and everchanging work environment like this one, sharing ideas between multiple teams is a must. At the same time however, our love for analog, personal tools for notetaking and sketching is irreplaceable. From this assumption was born the project “My Flow” for Moleskine. It aims to help freelancers in their job and to connect the digital with the analog side of a teamwork experience.

Teammates: Margarita Avilés De Carlos Matteo Colombo Bai Hai Yu Huang Jiajun Paola Papetti

Client:

my flow - moleskine As previously said, the concept aims to help freelancers working at the same time with many teams to use Moleskine as they always did, by writing and sketching, giving the possibility to digitalize chosen pages and send them directly to many different digital “group Moleskines, made with the contribution of each team member. The project purpose, in fact, is to connect the analog experience to the digital one, because of the traditional values proposition of Moleskine. At the bottom of the page the user can write the recipient group Moleskine: the app on his smartphone will recognize his writing and will send the page to the appropriate digital group Moleskine. After the end of a project, the group can decide to share the digital group Moleskine to the public: the most voted ones are printed by Moleskine and presented in a dedicated event.

Hashtags Hashtags are a way to organize users notes and make categories out of it. Recipient group The app will recognize the handwriting and send the page to the right group

digital side The application is the main touchpoint between the analog and the digital part of the project. All the materials uploaded by the group, are collected inside the platform, in a so-called “group Moleskine cloud, which is the digital collection of all shared pages. On the platform, each team member can see the group Moleskine and also leave comments. The group have also the possibility to share the its team Moleskine with all the community that is using MyFlow.

swot analysis People are always asking how creative people can do something extraordinary. MyFlow is the answer, because is not only focused to help people organizing their work to share it, but also to have an archive of methods and processes that could show what there is behind the scenes of a project. The key point is that starting from one single person, and passing through many small teams a domino effect could be generated that uses Moleskine as a vehicle of knowledge.

Strenghts

You can share your methods with a specic community It helps you to organize your workteam Fast connection from analogic to digital

You get feedbacks from other people, this improves your work You can have in a digital form all the things you do analogically You can improve your selfapproval showing your work to people from other elds

Opportunities

Weaknesses

It can be dicult that the all team use the same platform It could be dicult to promote the product at the beginning Is not so easy convincing people to share their methods

There are many platforms that use a similar technology Not all companies want workers share their processes It is not so easy to change workers’ methods

Re-Generation Academic project Designed in June 2014 Re-Generation, reconnecting broken relation, aims to the creation of an agrivillage in Fornovo di Taro (PR), near the Via Francigena. The project started from the analysis of our society and ways of living. Our actual lifestyle breaks up our life into isolated fragments and no longer supply us a better life quality. From this statement, the final purpose was the creation of a collaborative community, more human-centred, eco-friendly and sustainable. In this way, people who live in our agrivillage rebuild a new positive relation with the society, with the environment and culture, basing their daily life behaviours in a new and healthy direnction. On the other side, people from outside can also enter the agrivillage by participating some activities to satisfy their desires (self-refreshment, meditation, eating organic food).

What if... Academic project Designed from March 2014 to June 2015 What if... -the story behind- is a project commissioned by Messe Frankfurt Italia, subsidiary of the multinational trade fair group Messe Frankfurt. Messe Frankfurt Italia organizes in Parma SPS IPC Drives Italia, very important event of the industrial automation in Europe for over 20 years. Starting from the analysis of the fair, we found that there is a lack of emotional experience and involvement of visitors. We tried to add this kind of value, focusing on three main key words: metaphor, storytelling and gamification. The project purpose was to connect automation with storytelling through a gamification process. Going more deeply, automation is narrated through myths and stories from different culture, in order to intrigue, fascinate and touch visitors. What if... was designed as a format in order to be used several time changing the story, the sponsor company, the product exhibited, the kind of metaphor and, consequently, style, pattern, colors and so on.

MyA

the collective farmyard for neighbourhood social innovation

Master degree Thesis Designed from September 2015 to April 2016 Nowadays the societal need of gathering places for sharing and social expression has become increasingly urgent. This phenomenon is manifested especially in the urban areas through urban models intolerance, because of their environmental and societal approach, no longer sustainable. Examples could be the individual alienation and the loss of belonging and community identity. The global answer to these kind of issues has been represented by the establishment of many multi-cultural centres, which have as main aim the highlighting of these new kind of changes and participation trends, expected from the society. My project thesis is a research for solutions for social, cultural but also economic regeneration in a local community, in particular Quarto Cagnino neighbourhood. It started from a collaboration with mare culturale urbano, a social enterprises which aims to establish a cultural centre inside Cascina Torrette di Trenno. The main goal of my thesis is the transformation of common activities, such as work, free time, training and so on, in new pooling and sharing systems fundamental for a modern healthy society. Those kind of mechanisms has been analyzed both on a physical scale, through the renovation of Cascina Torrette di Trenno and especially of its farmyard, and on a relational scale, thanks to the creation of a collective network of people, activities and skills, supported by technological component. My project is about redesigning the courtyard of Cascina Torrette di Trenno, to make it a comprehensive place, full of activities and ambitions, an active engine for social innovation processes, as well as urban regeneration courses, for new sustainable ways of living.

mYa

The collective farmyard for neighbourhood social innovation

read my thesis on:

project description The project development was guided by some key words: social inclusion, sense of belonging, self-construction, participation, interaction, networking, sharing, contamination, culture promotion, urban regeneration, socially active and customization. The main aim of my project is the creation of an inclusive environment to involve people, especially neighbors, emotionally attached to Cascina Torrette di Trenno. The project consists of two parts, a physical one and a digital one. This two aspects are strictly in collaboration and interconnected to make the service project works well. In this logic, users have the possibiliy to download a specific application that allows them to use the farmyard services (open co-wo, digital are, repair cafe, area relax and events). The environment inside the farmyard would be active, dynamic, creative but defined by some rules that make it always accessible and available. In

fact the activities are managed through a calendar, alternating into the space during the days of the week. A particuar attention was given to the difference of activities during the weekdays and the weekend, considering the possibility to have different and more huge fluxes of people on sunday and saturday. The accessibility and openess of the courtyard is guaranteed by almost free services. What people have actually to do is placed themself at the disposal of other users, sharing their knowleges, their time and interests. In fatc all the activities are thinked to be managed independently by users collaboration. The aim is increasing users participation and empowering social ties basing the process on the concept of trust, sharing and interaction for a more sustainable way of living in a suburbs context. The five activities selected cooperate between them to improve the whole service experience.

After a long design process, the final activities selected to be part of the farmyard’s offering were five. I have added to the original ones (Repair Cafe, Digital Area and Events) other two, Area relax and Open Co-Wo, on the basis of the services inside Cascina (Restaurant, Co-Working) and in order to decline the idea of activities filter between inside and outside offering. Each activity is connected by other collateral services with the main aim to better specify the oggering and to improve the users experiences inside the farmyard of Cascina Torrette di Trenno. Each activity was developed from physical side, through design of furniture and space, and digital side through design of specific application which allows users to enjoy the service.

storyboard Once upon a time, in a little house in the suburbs of Milan.. Sara: “I have been working on the same article for days, I’m exhausted! Isn’t it, Sussurri?” A meow interrupts the ticking of fingers on the computer’s keyboard. “I need a break! So, let’s see what’s new on Facebook... Angela has shared MyA: Cascina Torrette di Trenno. What is it? Mmm let’s see... A collective farmyard for the neighbourhood: open co-working, digital area, repair cafè, events... Wow! It sounds interesting and it’s very close to home! Well, I’m going to download the app so that I can enjoy the Repair Cafe!”

Arrives quickly the day of the Repair Cafe events. Sara: “Here I am! Me, my broken toaster and the laptop that never leaves me . Today I really need to finish that article but I’d need the right inspiration. I hope to find it!”.

Sara finds easily the Repair Cafè. Dozen of people are working together, sharing knowledge and experiences. Here she meets Nicola, a nice old man readily available to repair her toaster. Sara: “Wow! This place is amazing.. And they say there’s nothing to do in the suburbs..” Her thoughts are interrupt by the familiar ticking of her working toaster. Next to Sara, Nicola is watching the good work that he has done. “Nicola is very skillfull.. in just 5 minutes my toaster is good as new! I was so lucky to meet him!”.

Finally comes the time to work.. Sara: “Let’s try the Open Co-Wo! Well..the QR code is activated and I have my work space, the wi-fi, plug to charge my laptop, Red Hot playing in my headphones, good people around me and, finally, inspiration to finish the article”.

It’s lunchtime. Sara: “Cool! I can safely eat my salad. I think I will come here often. There are many people from my quarter and guys to talk to..and there is also.. Alessio?! What he is doing here? He is come out to greet me. That is what matters. This evening he will play with his band, here in Cascina (How many aspects has this farmyard?). He asked me if I would enjoy the event. Alessio, it depends on the kinf of music you play... but I already know that I‘ll want to stay here...”.

It’s late afternoon. Sara: “I’m watching the staff that is changing the aspect of the farmyard, in few hours: moves a cart, changes the seats, turns on the outside lights. The digital area is become an equipped stage! The mood of the space is changed, now the environment is bright! There is some kind of magic, emotional.. Do you think that’s overreaching? Maybe it’s bacause Alessio is going to play some Red Hot’s songs this evening..”.

“Mmm MyA.. I think I’ve finally figured out the meaning of his name. It’s only been a few hours in this farmhouse, this farmyard, and I feel it already mine. Maybe it’s always been mine”.

Concert Poster Professional graphic project Designed from September 2015 to April 2016 This project started in December 2014 thanks to the collaboration with the Galatea Ensemble, an italian band of six components. I have chosen three colors which remind the idea of christmas: green, red and ice gray. The poster is simple and clean. I tried to highlight the photo of the band and the Christmas concerts calendar.

Drawing Technique Academic graphic project Designed from March 2011 to June 2011 This graphic works represent a small part of a large amount of results. The analyzed techniques were several, from hand drawing to digital one. In some case I have also mixed two different techniques in order to obtain unusual and effective results.

hand drawing & digital mapping This is another example of excercize about shadow and lines. I have highlighted three different shadow layers.

sea stars pattern The pattern project takes its inspiration from the images of the seabed. I chosen to analyze three elements: the sea star, the coral and the air bubbles. In this way, I have created a simple design but effective, suitable in a lot of context, pleasant and relaxing.
