ABOUT US

What is Solity Solity Software was established by an experienced team of experts in security, mobile technology, marketing and business development. We are a technology company focused on developing secure, high value, intuitive, and easy to deploy mobile business technologies for the public and private sector. After an earthquake wiped out the CBD of an entire city, we realised the ability to execute robust incident response plans under stress and when communications have been severely compromised, was critical. Unfortunately, it was also obvious there were no tools to make this possible. Building on this first-hand experience we developed a mobile platform for executing response plans, with a view to increasing both the speed and accuracy of the response. We provide our customers with the tools to automatically and instantaneously send task notifications to the right people at the right time, to collaborate in real time with the latest information from all sources on the ground and in command, and to manage the overall incident response. All with the goal of recovering and restoring service safely and in the shortest time possible. We strive to live by Solity’s mission statement; “To ensure the best response in the moments when speed and accuracy of decision making are most critical to organisations and their people.”

Process Overview

HOW IT WORKS

Crisis and Incident Control Communicating in the event of a crisis or incident is critical for the response and recovery effort. An effective response demands that you inform and mobilise response teams, provide instructions to employees and communicate with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. You also need a way for those parties to communicate with you. A typical incident response might involve multiple organisations, using different terminology and incompatible systems, while relying on predetermined response plans. Our product sits above and is independent of the responding organisations’ day-to-day systems, so there are no language or compatibility issues. Response plans can be modified in real time from a mobile tablet during an event as unexpected circumstances demand, optimising response effectiveness. The leadership team is kept informed with status updates delivered to their mobile phone.

CASE STUDY

Maritime New Zealand Bringing Mobility to Maritime NZ Crisis - Response Teams Maritime New Zealand has three key roles: it operates the national maritime regulatory and compliance agency, it provides maritime safe infrastructure, and it manages the national incident response agency. They provide an important service for all New Zealanders by ensuring the safety, security and environmental protection of our coastal and inland waterways.

We needed a mobile solution that we could access from any where, at any time, from any device and it had to be simple as 1-2-3 or it wouldn’t work. We also needed the solution to be adaptable and customizable to our unique business requirements and this needed to be achieved within a short time frame. Aaron Mikoz, Maritime CIO.

Solity are supporting them in this mission by ensuring their systems and processes continue to function in the event of a disaster or crisis.

Communicating the right information to the right people at the right time is essential when dealing with threats to business continuity.

In response to Maritime’s challenge, the Solity solution replaces flat electronic files and paper-based plans by migrating event response procedures and contact list into a secure cloud-based, mobile, automated, realtime, and collaborative environment.

Failing business continuity often starts with poor communications: notification of incidents might be too slow, ineffective or reach the wrong people; and involvement of executives may happen too late to benefit from their access and command over resources.

Maritime New Zealand chose to implement the Solity Platform after CIO Aaron Mikoz researched the market and found it was the only solution available that met their requirements.

CASE STUDY

Maritime New Zealand The Business Case Maritime New Zealand has three key roles: it operates the National Maritime Regulatory and Compliance agency, it provides maritime safety infrastructure, and it manages the National Incident Response Agency. As with most organisations the challenge was that all of their systems, processes and checklists are documented in manuals that sit within a cabinet in the boardroom. During an event, such as an earthquake, Maritime would not be able to access these, or the soft copes stored within their document management platform (which would also likely be unavailable in a disaster).

The Business Value

· Solity mitigates potential cost impacts through minimizing reputational, financial and legal cost. Solity offers a mobile, automated, real-time, and collaborative environmental.

“Solity takes your workflow and converts it into a tool that can be used as a “Swiss-army knife” for a variety of purposes. It provides the checklist for how you respond, when and to whom, and keeps managers up to date via live status feeds. In Maritime’s case it also allows out Chief Executive to respond in a timely manner to Government information requests”. Aaron Mikoz, Maritime CIO.

· Solity replaces flat electronic files and paper-based plans, enabling great access to any incident processes. · Solity migrates event response procedures and contact lists into a secure cloud-based platform. · Solity brings increased efficiencies in managing compliance cost.

“The platform does not take over the executives’ decision-making process, but allows them to make more informed decision and track these- this is important in term of auditability. The Government has a much higher demand on organizations to provide evidence to events and this tool allows us to do that.” MARITIME NEW ZEALAND ·

CASE STUDY

Maritime New Zealand Mobility

It was important for the solution to comply with New Zealand Government standard for information security and for it to provide effective mobility so that information would be available any where, any time from any device because, as Mikoz points out: –9 times out of 10 our staff leave their laptops at work but they take their mobile phones and tablets with them– and they need quick, secure access to information whenever the call goes out in an incident or crisis situation.

Ease of use and flexibility of application are key strengths of the Solity Platform that also appealed to MiKoz. The whole approach is that any user training is minimal, and because the backend is all managed by Solity, all that Maritime New Zealand takes responsibility for is updating their contacts and feeding back to Solity any enhancements and changes in their workflow for responding to a given event.

“The biggest benefit to Maritime is that above everything else, a tool is only of value to the business to the degree that it has been adopted and used by the business – so the fundamental tenet of our approach is that this is not a tool that is just used during a 1 in 10 year event, but one that the staff would use every day 0 in a variety of ways.” Maritime New Zealand’s in-house IT Support team uses the Solity tool for coordinating and managing all outof-hours support calls. It also provides the team with a knowledge portal detailing who they need to contact if any component within their infrastructure fails. In a disaster that is exactly the information they need to have it hand. The tool is also going to aid and enable Maritime’s Rescue Coordination Center (who oversee Category 2 land, sea and air search and rescue across New Zealand) and the Maritime Pollution Response Service (who have a responsibility for nationwide response to events such as oil spills). Maritime New Zealand, has build an effective partnership with Solity and worked closely with them to guide development and customization of the platform. “Solity have come onboard as part of the team rather than as a vendor. They have taken time to get to understand the nature of our work to ensure the solution would be an enabler for our business. It is really easy to succeed is the MARITIME NEW ZEALAND ·

Maritime New Zealand people you are partnering with are as passionate about what they do as you are. Solity are passionate about providing crisis management platforms and their mantra is the very Kiwi can-do attitude.” “Maritime is one of the transport lead agencies – we have a responsibility to improve our capability to respond to and manage maritime events. What this tool does is allows the core function of the business to still deliver services when a given event occurs. It enables us to be more effective and efficient in our response and we don’t have to worry that we have missed an action or failed to contact someone”

We are proud to be contributing to the safety and wellbeing of New Zealanders by providing a platform that both government and private organisations can use to effectively manage situations where people’s loves may be at risk. Israel Reyes, Solity founder and managing director.

Mikoz predicts the Solity Platform will evolve over the next few years and be adopted by a wide variety of New Zealand organisations and Government agencies to enable effective inter-agency response management. Solity brings to an organization the peace of mind of a best practice incident response solution that helps minimize human, reputational and financial cost during an incident or crisis by enabling quick and co-ordinated decision making, communication and action, as well as providing extensive post-incident analysis.
