Become an Apprentice! As employees, apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain skills. Apprentices also receive valuable training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. The minimum salary is £2.50 per hour, however, many apprentices earn significantly more. There may be different entry requirements depending on the Apprenticeships and the industry sectors. Competition for places can be fierce so you will need to show you are committed.

COURSES Foundation Learning is for those aged between 16-18 and who are not in education, employment or training (up to 25 for learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities). Qualifications are at entry level and/or level 1 and include functional skills (English, Maths and ICT) and personal & social development.

Foundation Learning offers flexible programmes to help develop skills, confidence and independence in preparation for work, training or further education. Nacro provide a personalised programme of study to help learners gain confidence and achieve the qualifications they need to fulfil their potential. Courses to choose from: • ART & DESIGN – gain Bronze (Level1) and Silver (Level2) Award in the Arts • CHILD CARE – CACHE Award, Certificate & Diploma in Caring for a Child/Children – Entry 3 & Level 1 • CONSTRUCTION – Certificate in Preparation for Employment in the Construction Industries Level 1 • EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS – Functional skills at Entry level and ASDAN Award in Volunteering at an Event, Certificate in the Community Volunteering. Military Preparation College - Brighton Courses to choose from at MPCT: Military or Public Services Ideal preparation for the Armed Forces or for the Public Services. Improve your fitness, team building skills, gain qualifications, develop your self confidence and employability skills. They are also running a new course: BTEC National Diploma in Public Services 26 week course Dyke Road, Brighton 5 days per week

17 week course - 3 days a week. Courses run by creative industry experts! £25-£30 per week paid to those eligible for bursary on Brighton courses. Up to £100 attendance reward on completion of the course. A focus on skills, jobs & routes into further education. DV8 Training - BRIGHTON: These courses take place at the Preston Road site near Preston Park. On2 Media Mix Course • A hands-on multimedia course including photography, video & animation, sound & web based media. • Your ideas turned into reality! Plus the chance to showcase your work at a city-wide event. • Use of industry-standard software. • Working closely with experienced artists and opportunities to make industry contacts. • A chance to get recognised Level 1 qualifications, plus English & Maths Functional Skills. On2 Music Technology Course • A hands-on digital music course. • Use of industry standard software and access to music studios. • Working closely with experienced musicians, producers & technicians. • Your tunes, your way - with help and guidance on getting heard. • A chance to get recognised Level 1 qualifications, plus English & Maths Functional Skills. • DV8 Training - RINGMER: These courses takes place at Ringmer Community College (Bus 28 from central Brighton goes straight there or get the FREE minibus from Lewes Train Station!) • Fashion & Design Level 2 - Gain qualifications in fashion industry skills and undertake work placements with professional designers and fashion PR companies. • On2 Music Technology Course - course details as above.

NEXT START DATE: September 2012 STOP PRESS: DV8LIVE are hosting a FREE Creative Jobs Open Day as part of the Youth Arts Fringe Festival. The event is for 16-25 year olds and takes place on 5th May, 11am-5pm at DV8 Brighton. There will be special guests, information on training, workshops and advice on getting work in creative, media and the arts. Speak to your Employability Adviser for information on this.

Minimum of 6 weeks - maximum of 30 weeks. Options include: First4Media: Uses digital photography & film. Enterprise & Employability: Learn aspects of enterprise including customer service. Plan and deliver a business project. Get Into Music: Understanding studio and computer-based recording, podcasting and composition skills. PRINCE’S TRUST TEAM PROGRAMME Run by City College in Brighton, Hove and Shoreham FREE 12 week programme for 16-25 year olds who are unemployed. The programme will help to build confidence and motivation, develop new skills and qualifications. It will look great on your CV and you will have the skills and confidence to apply for a full-time course at City College for September if you wish to do so. The course includes: Interviewing an action packed residential week now!! a work experience placement Travel is free and there are no course costs. Courses for those that are unemployed and over 18 in Brighton & Hove Shine offers a complete package of employability skills, one-to-one support, career specific training and additional workshops, that will help you find a way into the workplace. Courses include: CSCS Construction Card, Customer Service, IT for Work, Administration & Finance, Introduction to Food Preparation, Health & Social Care and Introduction to Horticulture. To be eligible for the programme you must be claiming either JSA or ESA and be over 18 years of age. Your Jobcentre Plus Adviser can refer you for this programme.
