Come and join us … We need you! Your opinions matter and we need to hear them to help us make the YES service even better. The Youth Employability Panel (aged 16-19) meets once a month, you get free travel, food and a £10 voucher for coming! Here’s what YOU too can achieve by becoming part of the Youth Employability Panel: The Youth Employability Panel helped to organise and were crucial in the running of the Brighton Your Futures event held at the Corn Exchange in Brighton. From this they all achieved a really useful Stewarding Qualification!! • They helped to plan and design our fabulous new YES iPhone App (see page 2 for details) • Gained a Youth Award • Helped shape the YES service • They contributed their views towards Government research and made their voice heard. You’ll take away lots of useful skills and qualifications that will help boost your CV and help towards your dream job. The Youth Employability Service is currently looking to overhaul its YESTV YouTube channel and we are recruiting a new team of volunteers to manage the channel with support from Elle (our Media and Communications officer). We are looking for young people to fill the following voluntary positions: 2 Channel Presenters (Must be bubbly and outgoing!) 1 Field Presenter (Must be happy to travel to various locations across the City - accompanied) 2 Writers / Researchers (Must have a good grasp of the English language, and a sense of humour!) 1 Editor (Will be trained to use Final Cut Pro - experience not necessary) 1 Director (Must be confident and a good leader)

Here are some frequently asked questions about apprenticeships:
What is an Apprenticeship? Apprenticeships are a brilliant way of gaining qualifications and work-place experience. As an employee you can earn as you learn and gain practical skills from the work place that will really help you in your future career. What are the entry requirements for an Apprenticeship? Different apprenticeships have different entry requirements, however the most important requirements are: - You must be living in England. - You must not be in full time education. - You must be aged 16+. - If you don’t have good grades in GCSE English and maths you will need to take a literacy and numeracy test. Do I get paid during an Apprenticeship: Yes, you do. The National Minimum Wage for apprentices is now £2.69 per hour. Although, as skills develop, many employers tend to increase wages, research has shown that apprentices earn an average of £170 net pay per week. Access to Music - LEVEL 1 POPULAR MUSIC COURSE Run over 30 weeks, 3 days a week. This is an introductory course for anyone who wants to start writing, playing and recording music while gaining essential life and employability skills. It is ideal for beginner producers and music technologists, as well as budding vocalists, guitarists, bassists, singer/songwriters, drummers and keyboard players. Students will also have access to its studio and rehearsal facilities. Everyone here is passionate about music no matter what it is. That sort of vibe is always good to have when starting something - it gives inspiration.

Military Preparation College * Ideal preparation for the Armed Forces or for a career in sport or public services * Courses offered: NEW for 2014 Public Services Level 2!!! BTEC Sport & Leisure, NCFE Uniformed Services Diploma and Level 1 BTEC Public Services Certificate MPCT is a full time course with physical training for half a day combined with classroom study. We also offer Military training days which are so cool! These days offer you the chance to dress up in camouflage and get muddy whilst learning great life skills that you will need in everyday life. Travel is paid and you could be eligible for up to ÂŁ40 a week bursary 5 days per week

Traineeships
Traineeship programmes in Portslade:
Pre Traineeship for 16-18 year olds • Employability and work preparation training - including CV writing and interview skills • Functional Skills Math and English • Work tasters/shadowing and Employer master classes • Personal and social development and enrichment activities Duration: 17 hours per week for up to a full academic year. Monday to Friday - 10am-3pm.
Traineeships for 16-18 and 19-24 year olds
• Job search and Interview Skills training and qualifications • Developing Skills in the Workplace training and qualifications • Work experience placements in a range of sectors, placements from 6 weeks to 5 months. • Functional Skills in Math and English. Duration: 18-24 hours per week for up to 6 months. Monday to Friday - 10am-3pm. These programmes can help to progress on to an apprenticeship, employment or further education. A weekly bus pass will be provided. Those in receipt of JSA will be able to retain the benefit whilst on this course. A bursary fund is available for those eligible. Upon completion of the programme learners will receive free driving lessons!

Traineeships
If you have recently left school or college and are not quite ready for work or you’re aged 16-18, unemployed, and want to work? Why not consider a Hotel and Catering Traineeship Programme with Hospitality Industry Training (HIT). Traineeships are a brilliant way of gaining basic work skills, vocational skills and work experience a young person needs to get a job. Traineeships give unemployed young people the opportunity to get on the job ladder to secure permanent employment. The programme lasts up to six months during which time you may even be offered a permanent job!
