Have you thought about an
Apprenticeship? An Apprenticeship is not just a job. It’s about learning skills that you’ll use for the rest of your life, earning a decent wage and getting qualified at the same time.
How do I apply for an Apprenticeship?
If you’re 16 or over and live in England you can do an Apprenticeship.
http://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship
If you didn’t get a grade C (or 4) in your Maths and English GCSEs, you’ll study Functional Skills as part of your apprenticeship. This means you’ll get a Level 2 qualification in Maths and English as well as your main qualification. The minimum wage for an apprentice aged 16-18 is now £3.70 per hour. This is the minimum an employer can pay by law, but a lot of employers will pay more than this. There are over 500 different apprenticeships available in subjects like IT, plumbing, construction, mechanics, childcare, catering and business administration.
Not quite ready for an Apprenticeship? Why not consider doing a traineeship first and here’s why……. A Traineeship is a flexible education and training programme with work experience that unlocks the great potential of young people. It prepares you for your future career by helping you to become “work ready”. You’ll gain real work experience and job skills, while improving your English and maths (if required). The programme can last up to 6 months, and although you don’t get paid, it will look great on your CV and you may be given expenses for things like travel and meals.
To find an apprenticeship have a look on the National Apprenticeship Service website:
and http://www.apprenticeships-in-sussex.com If you haven’t already, you’ll need to create an account and start the application process. Your YES Employability Adviser will be able to help with this or have a look at this handy guide: http://tinyurl.com/yanmhhca
If you are looking for a childcare apprenticeship don’t forget to check the weekly childcare vacancy list here: http://bit.ly/2oRsX63 Or sign up to receive this by email each week!
Your YES Employability Adviser will help you to research and apply for apprenticeships! Ask your Adviser for the latest Apprenticeship Vacancy Booklet
So, if you’ve been unsuccessful when applying for an apprenticeship or other job due to lack of skills and/or experience, then a traineeship could be for you.
You can apply if you’re: * eligible to work in England * unemployed and have little or no work experience * aged 16 to 24 and qualified below Level 3
See pages 5-8 for the Traineeship courses available
