Here are some frequently asked questions about apprenticeships: What is an apprenticeship? Apprenticeships are a brilliant way of gaining qualifications and work-place experience. As an employee you can earn as you learn and gain practical skills from the work place that will really help you in your future career. What are the entry requirements for an apprenticeship? Different apprenticeships have different entry requirements, however the most important requirements are: - You must be living in England. - You must not be in full time education. - You must be aged 16+. - If you don’t have good grades in GCSE English and maths you will need to take a literacy and numeracy test. Do I get paid during an apprenticeship: Yes, you do. The National Minimum Wage for apprentices is £2.65 per hour, however this will rise to £2.69 per hour from 1st October this year. Although, as skills develop, many employers tend to increase wages, research has shown that apprentices earn an average of £170 net pay per week. STUDY Programmes Study Programmes - Traineeships are for those aged between 16-19 (up to 25 for those with learning difficulties/disabilities). Each programme is tailored to the student’s individual needs, education, employment goals and includes functional skills in English and maths. Checkout all the courses on offer below:
Access to Music - LEVEL 1 POPULAR MUSIC COURSE This practical 28 week, 2 day per week course is music based and is ideal for relative beginners in music playing and music production. Vocational workshops include: performance skills, composition/arrangement, instrumental/programming skills, music technology and music business/promotion. It also supports the development of personal and social skills, including functional skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT. Students will benefit from ATM’s national and local enrichment programmes as well as access to its studio and rehearsal facilities.

Are you aged 16-24 and unemployed? Do you want to develop skills, knowledge and real work experience that employers want so that you can successfully compete for an apprenticeship of job? The City College Traineeship programme includes: A work placement lasting up to 5 months Work research and preparation training English and Maths training This programme is free, won’t affect benefits and travel expenses are covered.

DV8 Training Brighton - Courses for 16-18 year olds - Bursaries paid to those eligible - Courses are 3 days per week and run from September to July. - A flexible, personalised learning programme, tuition from experts and professionals - Opportunities for work experience on all courses - Support with applications to college and work DIGITAL MEDIA LEVEL 1 AND 2 • Design a computer game or app, create an interactive website, shoot and edit a film, publish a photographic portfolio. Also includes social networking and digital marketing. Students will be trained in this ever-evolving, fast paced industry through guidance, projects and work placements. FASHION LEVEL 2 • Learn about the fashion industry in the DV8 design studio. Students will learn pattern cutting, design and make a garment, marketing through social media and work to a real-life client commission. Includes designer research, constructing garments to attend shows and exhibitions in London. Achieve a qualification in fashion. MUSIC PRODUCTION LEVEL 1 AND 2 (Level 3 available at Bexhill only) • This course features songwriting, live performance, remixing, production and digital recording. Covers vocalist, MC or musician or behind the scenes running a label, promoting a show or managing a tour. LIVE EVENTS LEVEL 2 (Starts January 2014) (24 week course) • Create, promote & deliver the DV8 end of year event • Hands on experience of the live events industry • Co-ordinate musicians & artists to perform on the night. Learn stage & production skills

Traineeships for 16-18 and 19-24 year olds • Job search and Interview Skills training and qualifications • Developing Skills in the Workplace training and qualifications • Work experience placements in a range of sectors, placements from 6 weeks to 5 months. • Functional Skills in Math and English. Duration: 18-24 hours per week for up to 6 months. These programmes can help to progress on to an apprenticeship, employment or further education. Travel costs to and from work placements will be paid. Those in receipt of JSA will be able to retain the benefit whilst on this course. Bursary fund available for those eligible.
