Here are some frequently asked questions about Apprenticeships: What is an Apprenticeship? Apprenticeships are a brilliant way of gaining qualifications and work-place experience. As an employee you can earn as you learn and gain practical skills from the work place that will really help you in your future career. What are the entry requirements for an Apprenticeship? Apprenticeships have different entry requirements, however the most important requirements are: - You must be living in England. - You must not be in full time education. - You must be aged 16+. - If you don’t have good grades in GCSE English and maths you will need to take a literacy and numeracy Test. Do I get paid during an Apprenticeship? Yes, you do. The National Minimum Wage for apprentices is now £2.73 per hour (this will rise to £3.30 from October 2015). As skills develop, many employers tend to increase wages; research has shown that apprentices earn an average of £170 net pay per week. If you would like more information about the range of jobs available through apprenticeships, look at the websites below or contact the Youth Employability Service.
FIND AN APPRENTICESHIP! There’s a new website which has replaced the previous National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) address. You can register, search & apply for apprenticeships through the website:

If you need further help with this, you can contact your Employability Adviser or contact the Apprenticeship Helpdesk on 0800 0150400.
www.apprenticeships-in-sussex.com The Apprenticeships in Sussex website helps you to search for apprenticeship training and providers in the Brighton, Hove and Sussex area. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Courses Want to work in the Creative or Digital sector and and looking for work experience? Why not consider our new Creative Work Pairing programme…
Dv8 Sussex have developed the CWP programme to help young people interested in apprenticeships gain experience in the workplace and improve their skills set and knowledge base. We believe in providing all young people with the opportunities they need to help them succeed in the Creative and Digital sectors. CWP is a short work experience focused programme that is run in conjunction with trusted local employers and will give young people a stronger CV, invaluable hands-on experience, confidence and will help them secure the apprentice role they desire. In addition, feedback from local employers has shown that for many, 18 months commitment to an apprentice is a daunting prospect. The opportunity to take on a bright and enthusiastic young person for a short period of time to assist with projects and duties, enables employers to see how an apprentice can work for them.
You will work with an employer for a set period of time carrying out real duties with meaning and purpose (so not just tea making and filing!) and be given the chance to learn new skills in an area they are interested in. You’ll be supported by the employer to understand what it’s like being in a busy working environment and how to deal with challenges and deadlines. In addition, you will work toward a level 3 Work Skills qualification that will provide underpinning knowledge and help to clearly demonstrate your new skills.
We work with a range of employers on our Apprenticeship programme all of whom have helped young people gain new skills in digital marketing and using social media for business. Tasks have included content generation for websites, blog writing, newsletter creation and working to client briefs.
Any young person looking to become a CWP trainee must be able to commit to a minimum of 8 weeks work with an employer. Employers are asked to pay a training allowance per day to their trainee to support with travel and food costs while placed with them. This allowance will only be paid for the number of days worked so if a day is missed due to illness or other commitments, the trainee will not be paid.
The CWP programme has been created to support young people interested in apprenticeships gain experience in the work place however, it has also been created to help employers see what it’s like having a young person work with them for a set period of time. Not all employers are able to commit immediately to an eighteen-month placement however much they might like to. Ideally, the employer you are placed with will enjoy and benefit from the experience as much as you will and will be able to keep you on, investing in you as an apprentice.
To find out more about our exciting new programme, please give us a call on tel: 01273 550432 or go to: http://www.dv8sussex.com/creative-work-pairing DV8 Brighton, 12 Queens Square, Brighton, BN1 3FD
