has now started a childcare apprenticeship!
I wouldn’t have done it without my adviser’s help. Thank you for all your help over these past weeks.
Have you thought about an
Apprenticeship? An apprenticeship is not just a job. It is about learning skills that you’ll use for the rest of your life, earning a decent wage and getting qualified at the same time. If you are aged 16 or over and live in England you can do an apprenticeship. If you didn’t get a grade 4 (or C) in your maths and English GCSEs, you will study functional skills as part of your apprenticeship. This means you can achieve a level 2 qualification in maths and English as well as your main apprenticeship qualification. The minimum wage for an apprentice aged 16-18 is now £3.90 per hour. This is the minimum an employer can pay by law, but many employers will pay more than this.
How do I apply for an Apprenticeship? To find local apprenticeship vacancies, have a look on the National Apprenticeship Service website:
http://www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship and
http://www.apprenticeships-in-sussex.com If you haven’t already, you will need to create an account and start the application process. Your YES Employability Adviser will be able to help with this.
Apprenticeships are available in many different career areas including IT, hairdressing, plumbing, construction trades, motor vehicle, childcare, catering, business administration and more.
Not quite ready for an Apprenticeship? Why not consider doing a traineeship first? Here’s why… A Traineeship is a flexible education and training programme with work experience. You can try out various types of jobs and become ‘work ready’ while improving your English and maths (if required). The programme can last up to 6 months and although you don’t get paid, it will look great on your CV and you may be given expenses for things like travel and meals. So, if you’ve been unsuccessful when applying for an apprenticeship or other job due to lack of skills and/or experience, then a traineeship could be for you. Your YES Employability Adviser can help you to find the right traineeship and arrange for you to visit providers to find out more.
See pages 7-8 for the Traineeships available in Brighton & Hove Opportunities for You! - Issue 93 - Sept 2019 - Page 6
www.furthermyfuture.com A free apprenticeship matching service. Combines an online employability programme to complete whilst being matched to suitable opportunities. For anyone aged 16-24 searching for their ideal career. Ask your YES Adviser if you would like help with this. If you are looking for a childcare apprenticeship check the weekly childcare job vacancy list here: http://bit.ly/2oRsX63 You can sign up to receive this by email each week!
Your YES Employability Adviser will help you to search and apply for apprenticeships!
