New RM Portal Search Functionality (Elasticsearch) Elasticsearch is an open-source, distributed search and analytics engine built on Apache Lucene. Since the first release in 2010, it has quickly become the most globally used search engine, is commonly used for log analytics, full-text search, and operational intelligence use cases. It can be used to provide near-real time analytics using large volumes of log data and its easy-to-use search APIs allow us to easily add powerful search capabilities to our portal.

New RM Portal Search Functionality (Elasticsearch) Elasticsearch Is Fast. Really, Really Fast. When you get answers instantly, your relationship with your data changes. You can afford to iterate and cover more ground. Being this fast isn’t easy. Elaticsearch implements inverted indices with finite state transducers for full-text querying, BKD trees for storing numeric and geo data, and a column store for analytics. And since everything is indexed, you’re never left with index envy. You can leverage and access all of your data at ludicrously awesome speeds.

RM Portal Services The Portal provides an open access communications bridge between organizations, communities, consortia and global partners working on an integrated approach to natural resource management linking nature, energy, and human health. The Portal is designed to foster the evolution of a diverse community willing to share their expertise, social and professional networks and work together across time and physical boundaries on the ground as well as inside virtual teams. We invite USAID Missions and Partners to share their digital media through this Portal, either privately, collaboratively within a group, or publicly to a global audience. Portal members are encouraged to recommend media to be included in our Portal and partner search.

RM Portal Document Versioning Services Versioning Pages, News Items, Events, and Links How to view the version history of an item, compare versions, preview previous versions and revert to previous versions. Tracking the version history of Files is unique to other content types. Files are opaque to Plone’s version history, so the only thing that the history will show is that the file has been replaced. You won’t get line-by-line history like you do on HTML body fields. However, each version of a file can be downloaded even after the file is replaced. The following tutorial details how to track the version history of files by using the Change note field and the Revision preview feature.

USAID Biodiversity Conservation Gateway USAID has a long and rich history in global biodiversity conservation. This site showcases the most recent products and projects supported by USAID’s Office of Forestry and Biodiversity and also links to legacy content. As it matures, the Gateway will increasingly integrate news and information from USAID Mission programs. The Forestry and Biodiversity Office designed the Gateway to communicate with conservation and development stakeholders about implementation of the USAID Biodiversity Policy and the Agency’s work supporting other key U.S. Government initiatives and polices.

Biodiversity Conservation Gateway: Thematic Areas Legality and Sustainability A rapidly escalating focus in international conservation is the trafficking and overexploitation of valuable species from forests, savannas and oceans. Consequences range from collapse of wildlife populations to widespread graft and corruption, which affect all development sectors. USAID is working on many fronts as part of U.S. Government efforts to attack wildlife, fisheries and forestry crime while promoting legal and sustainable solutions.

Biodiversity Conservation Gateway: Thematic Areas Conservation Effectiveness Biodiversity programming should be based on sound science to achieve tangible and sustainable results. Understanding both the current condition and changing trends in biodiversity is an essential foundation for designing conservation strategies and measuring their effectiveness. USAID works with experts across academia, the private sector, and within USAID and other U.S. Government agencies to strengthen development impacts.

Combatting Wildlife Trafficking (CWT) Collaborative Learning Group Although USAID has a long history of support for efforts to combat wildlife trafficking. These efforts are currently being prioritized due to a dramatic increase in the volume and scope of the threat in recent years and a 2014 Executive Order strengthening the Agency’s mandate to increase programing in this area. Among the many strategic approaches employed by USAID to combat wildlife trafficking and outlined in the Agency’s Measuring Efforts to Combat Wildlife Crime Toolkit, USAID’s Forestry and Biodiversity Office chose three for special attention for the CWT Learning Group: (a) reducing consumer demand through behavior change methodologies, (b) building capacity for effective enforcement and prosecution, and (c) increasing community conservation action and support to combat wildlife trafficking. These three approaches are defined by individual development hypotheses (theories of change), as well as a combined hypothesis that, if implemented, these strategies will increase the risks for wildlife criminals and reduce profits from wildlife trafficking, which then will reduce overall wildlife crime, resulting in greater protection of species.

Spotlight on Mission Projects (Stories) Our recent Knowledge Management Survey indicated that many USAID missions would like to learn more about building partnerships with host countries to enhance biodiversity conservation. To address this question, this article illustrates how USAID/ Brazil is working with the government, public and private sectors and nonprofit organizations to conserve biodiversity in the Amazon. The robust partnership between USAID and the Government of Brazil may inspire other missions and USAID projects and provide practical examples to adapt to their own host country environments.

Productive Safety Net Program (Private World Bank portal) The Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP) aims to relieve families of the short-term effects of their destitution. It ensures that there is food in the household and frees up parents to make investments in the future. It does this through giving cash or food payments to very poor households. Most of these payments go to people in return for their work on improving their communities. These activities, known as a “public works include working on soil and water conservation, road building, and construction of schools and clinics. The Household Assets Building Programs HABP aims to provide longer term solutions for the same families. It helps families to diversity and increase their incomes. It supports them to come up with a plan to improve their livelihoods, trains them in the skills they need to make these improvements, and provides them with information on where they can borrow money to fund these changes.
