Create a picture video using Animoto MLearning Project By Roseli Serra (Brazil)

App: Animoto Project goal By the end of this project students should be able to create a picture film about their last holidays and future arrangements for Easter using Animoto. Target language: the past simple of regular and irregular verbs and present continuous for future arrangements Target audience: pre-teen students aged between 11 and 12 with who have studied English for about 4 years. Technology and infra-structure expected: Students bring their own mobile devices (tablets and smarthphones) with 3G but Wi-fi is available in the whole school. (99% of the students have and bring their mobile devices to school and we have good wi-fi )

Time allotted: Three classes of 75 minutes: Two classes to create the video One class for the students to present their projects Number of students: 08

Points to consider: 1. Teachers and students share information on Edmodo 2. All students have the Edmodo app on their mobile devices 3. It’s crucial that the teacher posts on Edmodo an example of an Animoto video she created for the SS to visualise what it is being required from them. http://animoto.com/play/uZm06O1MUAF0x9sh4r0DTA 4. The teacher also shares a tutorial in Portuguese, students’ mother tongue (considering their age). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4an8Vvp2Tn0 5. Students who do not have or cannot take mobile devices to school , they can work with a partner. 6. The target language and grammar structures are part of their language school syllabus and have been revised and recycled several times. So

there’s no need to present or revise any piece of language as they have done it till the previous lesson. This is a wrap up- project. 7. After the projects are ready, SS share their videos on Edmodo so that they can present on the third class.

Description of the project: Class 1: Creating the fist video: Title of the film: My last holidays

1. In the previous lesson teacher asks SS to upload : a. Pictures regarding their past holidays to start the project on the following class. b. The Animoto app 2. Using their mobile devices students have uploaded pictures ( not necessarily their “last holidays’) 3. SS chose between 6 and 12 (maximum number of images allowed by the app ) from their mobile devices 4. Students then select a theme/style 5. After that students write a description for their videos. This is the moment when they are going to build up a paragraph using the target language and grammar structure. ( As in my example) 6. The next step is to choose from the library of music Animoto provides; (it is organized into themes and styles, and the selection is pretty broad. SS can also use an app to record audio on the phone ( both on IOS and Android mobiles). 7. The video is published to the Animoto site, where there are many options for sharing. We cannot forget that students can use the embed code only when they are logged in. The other option they have is simply share the Animoto link on Edmodo. Class two: Creating the second video:

Class two follows the same steps as in class one. Title of the film: Making arrangements for Easter Class 3: 1. T checks with SS if all projects are shared on Edmodo and help them if necessary. 2. SS present their project orally to the whole group.
