C.M.P Community School is located in Santurce, Puerto Rico, surround by an important waterbody and a unique community. Historically, marginalization has not only affected the community, it has affected “El Caño Martín Peña” as a result of an overcrowded space. The school opens a new urban space on the area to unify its inhabitants with its context.

Community Educational Space
CMP Community School aims to raise consciousness about the importance of protecting “El Caño Martín Peña” and its surroundings. The school operates as a public urban space that recognizes the importance of the waterbody as a site condition and reencounter inhabitants with its immediate environment. This sculptural space acts as a connection between local residents and outsiders, functioning not only as a learning centre but as an urban space.

Integration between the School and the surrounding community is vital for the appropriate revitalization of the area. A public educational space, highlighted by its sinuous form will attract residents to experience the interior of the school at any time of the day. In order to incite inhabitants to join the educational space, a direct and important pedestrian connection between school and community must be part of the design.

The library role, as the principal space of the educational institution, is to recognize the importance of the waterbody. CMP school library is responsible for creating conscience and appreciation toward this natural resource that has being ignored by residents and authorities through many decades. Functionally, CMP library does not depends on school, it can be access from the outside by all the community. Instead of creating an educational space for certain group it was created to invite inhabitants and to stimulate learning.

P- PATHWAY LA PERLA COMMUNITY PROF. E JOFFRE [2011] [Community Workshop][2008] PROF. E BERMUDEZ
PROPOSED ROUTE FOR CONNECTION
PathWay emerges behind the fort walls in the historical City of Old San Juan in an attempt to connect Fort El Morro with Fort San Cristobal. The connection was outlined crossing Community of “la Perla” all allong the seashore. Community la Perla is known for being a high criminality, overcrowded, and marginalized sector. As a result the connection between these two forts had to intervene all the area in order to open an enclosed community by marginalization. This connection is intended to reactivate the whole area by proposing new commercial usages, recreational spaces, and reforestation. The analisys and and investigation of the existent context, its behavior allows to correct and create a inhabitable urban space
