Mediawhat?... MediaFish!

You may have seen our banners and logo popping up around the festival but you may still be wondering exactly who we are (especially with a name like MediaFish which doesn't really give much away).

So allow us to introduce ourselves. We are a co-operative of young people, who are funded by LSCash to present film to other young people. We meet once a week in the Town Hall in a space of our own which we call the Film Academy (or the Fishtank!). This is the control centre where we come up with ideas, organise events and feed our passion for film! Outside of the fishtank, we programme our own cinema screenings at the wonderful Hyde Park Picture House for other young people and their families, for free. We present a variety of films from action and drama to world cinema and animation.

Dirs. Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders, UK/USA, 2010, 95 min, Paramount DON’T MISS! Author Cressida Cowell, who wrote the original book, will be here to introduce the film, talk about her adventures in movieland and sign books.

In partnership with

From the studio that brought you ‘Shrek’ and ‘Madagascar’, comes ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. Set in a mythical world of Vikings where slaying dragons is a way of life, this fantastic animated adventure centres around a teenager named Hiccup who doesn’t exactly fit the mould. When Hiccup is included in Dragon training with the other Viking teens, he is determined to prove he has what it takes to be a warrior. However, things don’t go according to plan and Hiccup ends up meeting a dragon that will turn all their worlds upside down forever. Fantasy, adventure, comedy See this if you liked: Shrek, Monsters vs Aliens, Eragon

Further afield, we visit international film festivals - this year it was BUFF festival, held in Sweden. By seeing how other cultures present their festivals we can build ideas for our own, ensuring that cinema across the globe is accessible to everyone. At the time of writing, we're busy with programming films and organsing workshops for the festival. We'll have other events for you to get involved in over the coming months too so if you want to join or find out more check our website and blog at

A selection of seven stories of magic and adventure, of friendship and mischief, of courage and a clever ghost shot all in the slums of Mumbai. Unlike Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, it doesn’t focus on the dark side of life in the slums. Instead the film explores life through the eyes of children to show that even in the darkest of times and most difficult of situations it is possible to find happiness and hope. 25 % of the revenue from this film will go to a selection of non-profit making organisations in India.
