Rose Tour 2015
The Maldron Hotel in Dublin Airport, Lough Rynn Castle in Mohill, Co Leitrim and the George Boutique Hotel in Limerick hosted the Roses during the tour, while the visit to Barretstown Camp, Co Kildare was a memorable highlight.
This year’s 32 International Roses will take home memories of their visits to Kildare, Dublin, Leitrim and Limerick – before their arrival in the Kingdom of Kerry on Friday 14th August for the start of the Rose of Tralee International Festival.
The Rose Tour of Ireland offers the perfect opportunity to showcase the Rose of Tralee as more than a five-day Festival. It’s also a very important event on the Irish tourism calendar as the media coverage that the Rose Tour commands is the perfect picture postcard to send to the world. There is no other Festival in Ireland that offers such an insight to so many parts of Ireland en route to the main hub of the entertainment in Tralee.

A year in the life of the 2014 Rose of Tralee, Maria Walsh On behalf of our Rose family, it is a wonderful honor to welcome you to the 2015 Rose of Tralee International Festival. I began putting pen to paper for this final farewell some time ago. Truth be told, I have been collecting moments to include in these last words since August 19th 2014. That night the greatest unexpected expectation took place. ‘Philadelphia’ was shouted in a packed Festival Dome, while over a million people watched from their homes in Ireland and many more watched from all corners of our Diaspora. In 1994, at the age of seven, my family moved from Boston, Massachusetts to the village of Shrule, Co Mayo. From that August onwards, I watched on television with family and friends the Rose of Tralee Festival unfold each year from our living room. Twenty years later as ‘Philadelphia’ was called, my life and my family’s life began on an adventure that even my seven year old self could never have imagined. This year I had two agendas. First and foremost, I wanted to highlight and showcase that this great Festival is a 12 month ambassador role and by achieving this goal I felt significant time needed to be dedicated to connecting our Rose Centers worldwide. As well as focusing on projects that I felt offered empowerment to those that worked tirelessly for them. I travelled, I witnessed, I shared, I offered, I answered, I asked and I worked. This year I worked many hours and many days to promote our motto that ‘A Rose can make a Difference’. Roses over the past 55 years have been empowering those they meet. And how fortunate our communities are for them doing so. We visited all 32 counties in Ireland in January. This allowed me time to meet the many people who create this Festival each year in their locality. I visited as many American Centers as I could. I celebrated St Valentine’s Day in Cleveland, Ohio, while our national holiday St Patrick’s Day was celebrated in the White House in Washington DC. New York City and Chicago were also visited.
In May, my Mother Noreen and my Aunty Cathy traveled with me to connect with the Irish in Australia. We visited Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth. We also made a quick visit to our dear friends in Wellington, New Zealand. This year I was fortunate to be offered many experiences seeing and working with Irish humanitarian projects worldwide. Maureen Forrest and her team at The Hope Foundation opened their doors to me to witness the developing world of Kolkata, India. Niall Mellon and his hard working volunteers in Mellon Educate allowed me help build two schools in Eastern Cape, South Africa. The determined and hardworking Adi Roche and team, opened their hearts to 20 of my Rose family to stay in Vesnova, near Chernobyl. And as you read this, I’ll have just returned from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where I worked on a project by Development Perspectives. This opportunity has opened my eyes to the vast opportunities for development and how to be a better global citizen. My second agenda item, and perhaps the one I was most vocal about, was to ensure as much time was given to promote and empower young people. The International Festival Management team and I spent a significant amount of time visiting schools - primary, secondary and colleges. Many asked why? And the answer is quite simple. We are fortunate that this Festival attracts a calibre of leading modern women and no better way to remain relevant and effective in modern society than to visit schools. There is excitement in offering time to communicate to those that will one day lead our society. And I wanted us to be a part of that excitement. All these great adventures brought great conversations surrounding the Festival and how it has developed over the years. I was in awe of the Irish people across the world who developed strong communities, built on the ‘grá’ for their countrymen and women and their dedication to helping those ‘just off the boat’.
Above: The Late Late Show, Dancing for Bumbleance I have been asked on several occasions by all age demographics, ‘what does it mean to be a Rose?’ And truth be told I never know how to answer that. And perhaps that’s what is so lovely about this Festival. Each year the calibre of women chosen to represent their City, State and Country all possess in abundance, the honorable qualities we Irish have. But they also carry both educational and life experience. They debate. They work hard. Their talents don’t just include music or dance. They also have an amazing sense of humor and fun and no other Festival offers an opportunity to stand and showcase that abundance of qualities. And like the Rose sisters before me, throughout this year many of you read about the numerous aspects of my life. All of which were positively exposed. And how proud I am that you have learned about all of me - a whole person. My 2014 class, as I say with the most bias tongue, supported me in many ways and perhaps they don’t fully understand how. This past year I have gained friendships and memories. I have learned that strangers can quickly become friends. I am just so fortunate we connected through this celebration. Our 2014 class is made up of 70 Roses and 32 Escorts. Each and every individual creates, harvests and promotes our Irish thread proudly and openly. And as their Rose sister, my long days, miles of travel, mechanics of being away from home became easier because of their dedication in promoting our Festival and building a long lasting group of friends. Over the past 12 months I have been fortunate to attend numerous 2015 Selection nights in Ireland, United States and Australia. And left each Selection night in awe. Thank you to each and every Rose Centre for dedicating significant amount of time in promoting the friendships I just spoke

It would be amiss of me not to finish with a heartfelt thank you to each and everyone one of you for being apart of the greatest chapter I have. To my fellow 2014 Rose Family – you have all added, created and shaped many memories of this year for me. I hope I did you all proud at some point throughout the last twelve months. Here’s to the many years ahead filled with reunions, marriages and celebrations!! To the Rose of Tralee Management Team; thank you for your support, hard work, dedication and allowing me to be ME throughout the past 12 months. In particular a special heartfelt love and thanks to Valerie and Steve for being the constant support I needed. These two worked harder than I. They ensured all the opportunities offered were fulfilled with the greatest heart. To my family and friends; thank you for allowing me to embrace this opportunity with both hands and for keeping my feet firmly on the ground throughout the
many amazing journeys. There are many facets to this Festival that people don’t see; the tradition of our young people running around the town for autographs, the music, color and buzz around the parades and fashion show, ceol agus craic, family reunions, our Rose Buds, storytelling, our small businesses and volunteerism. Many years ago an idea was formed sitting around a space with friends on a quest to showcase a place we hold so dear. And 56 years later we see the expansion of this simple idea. People make and create this Festival and there are no better people than the Irish. I hope you take advantage of marrying what Tralee has to offer and mixing with the people over the coming days. The heart of this Festival is our Roses. I wish the 65 Roses that join us over these five days the very best of luck for their year ahead. 32 Roses will showcase their stories, pastimes and love for being Irish on the stage Monday and Tuesday night but they are supported by their 33 Sisters who work equally hard at creating another successful year for our Rose of Tralee International Festival. I look forward to seeing, meeting and greeting you all over the coming days.

The Rose of Tralee Festival is a celebration of our history, beliefs, culture, and achievements. An event at which a young lady is selected to represent all that is good about our culture. Maria Walsh embodies that which the Rose of Tralee Organisation endeavours to achieve. For the past twelve months she has flown the Irish flag high and represented the entire island of Ireland in a most impeccable, mature, and intelligent manner. The inspiration from a 19th Century ballad, (The Rose of Tralee), about a beautiful and sincere woman called Mary, lives on in Maria Walsh.

I am 27 years old from Co. Donegal. I’m teaching Kindergarten and living in the UAE and my time so far has been a positive one meeting new people, learning new teaching styles and learning about the Arabian lifestyle. I have two All-Ireland Gold Medals for basketball and I have completed the Mini Marathon, The Galway Bay Half Marathon, and The Beach Bog Run, Hell & Back. I have recently started Gaelic football as it is a great way to meet expats when living abroad. Once I return from teaching in Abu Dhabi I want to further my education by studying Play Therapy. Life is good at the moment and being crowned ‘Abu Dhabi Rose’ is the icing on the cake!
I’m 20 years old and the daughter of a proud Kerryman. I studied at The New School University in New York City where I majored in Media Studies and Theater. My greatest passions are acting and film and I have been fortunate enough to have been in numerous commercials, stage productions, as well as having had minor roles in popular television shows. I am an advocate for anti-bullying and arts therapy and a lot of my creative work is a reflection of that. I am currently working with a teenager with Autism. I am proud to call myself an Irish American. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been given this opportunity and am excited to be going back to Ireland!

I am 21 and from Illinois. I’m currently studying at Marquette University to become a Medical Doctor specializing in Paediatrics. My mother, Julia, is from Ardee, Co. Louth. My spirituality is very important to me, while I have volunteered at The Children’s Hospital Of Milwaukee for the past three years in their HOT Unit (haematology, oncology and transplant). One of my most notable achievements was competing and winning the title of South Side Irish Parade Queen in 2014. It was a great honor for me to become a representative of our vibrant Irish community here in Chicago. Through the Irish Diaspora I have learned this: our Irish embrace is global. We are united in our love of all things Irish.
I am delighted to be the 2015 ‘Rebel’ Rose! I am 25 years old and the eldest of four sisters from Mallow, Co. Cork. As a Research Nutritionist, currently completing a PhD in University College Dublin, I am passionate about food and health (sometimes food more so than health!) and an active member of the Irish Nutrition Society. I have been very fortunate to have travelled the world with my research which has sparked a new-found love for travelling and experiencing new cultures and cuisines. Being a self-confessed science geek, I enjoy communicating science to audiences of all ages in a fun and entertaining way. My friends and family describe me as outgoing, adventurous and always looking for new experiences.

I am 27 and have been living in Australia for the past three years. I grew up playing Gaelic football and camogie in Ratoath, Co. Meath and have been continuing my passion for sport and meeting new people by immersing myself into rugby, AFL and Gaelic football in Darwin. I am an Acting Operations Manager over a Child Protection and Disability service in Darwin. One of my greatest achievements has been the 12 months I spent volunteering in a primary school, orphanage and rehabilitation centre in Uganda. I was honoured and humbled to meet Irish president Mary McAleese and be awarded a Gold Gaisce Award. I am incredibly proud to be representing Darwin at this year’s International Festival!
I’m a 20 year old student busy fulfilling my dreams to become a teacher in the wonderfully unique St. Mary’s University College, Belfast. I hope to progress to teaching Religious Education in a post-primary school. That is of course if the option of becoming a full-time Disney Princess doesn’t work out! I was born and raised in the rural and very beautiful village of Glenullin in the back-end of beyond in North Derry and am a proud woman of all things country. I come from a large family circle, to the extent where Granny’s living room on a Sunday afternoon is bursting at the seams. I am honoured beyond belief to be representing our exceptional Oakleaf County, steeped in history and rich with culture and the absolute craic.

Salamon Alaykom! I am the 2015 Dubai Rose who comes from a small town in Tipperary called Borrisoleigh, famous for its Tipperary Spring Water and strong hurling traditions. I am the youngest of five children and was reared by two loving and devoted parents. I took a career break from my teaching job in Co. Limerick and now I teach Mathematics in Raffles International School, Dubai. My family is the most important thing in my life which is the one negative aspect about living so far from home. Entering the Rose of Tralee competition is in memory of my sister Louise who passed away tragically by suicide. This year is Louise’s 10th Anniversary and I am proud to be marking it in a very special and positive way for my family.
I hail from Rathcoole Co. Dublin, where I was born and raised. I’ve often been asked, ‘is Rathcoole not in Kildare?’, but I’m always quick to correct people and let them know I am a proud Dub! I graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a first class honours degree in Physiotherapy. I loved my time there but I realised I am a real home bird! I am currently working as a Physiotherapist and Pilates instructor in First Physio Plus in Clondalkin. I work as a sports physiotherapist for Naas Rugby Club and I just finished a season with Peamount ladies team. I really have a passion for yoga, surfing, travel and would love to pursue it further. A trip to India might even be on the horizon. Sure why not combine all three!

I am 25 years old and from the lovely village of Moycullen. I’m one of six girls and love being part of such a big, close-knit family! I have worked for the past two years in Trinity College as a Psychology Researcher, where I manage a study aiming to reduce social isolation. I also have a keen interest in entrepreneurship and will combine these career interests by returning to complete a master’s in Business Psychology this September. I’m an avid equestrian enthusiast, tag rugby player and runner. Supporting people with learning disabilities is a huge part of my life and I volunteer weekly assisting with therapeutic horse-riding lessons. I am also an active volunteer with Special Olympics.
Guten Tag! I was born in Birmingham, England 22 years ago, but raised in Rush, Dublin. Since January 2014, I am lucky to call the amazing and diverse city of Berlin my home and even luckier to be the Germany Rose. I speak German and work in a multilingual Kindergarten in Berlin. I also have a decent level of French and understand some Spanish. I believe my love of languages is inspired by my sisters and I having always attended Gaelscoileanna. In Germany I have made friends from all over the world and we have shared our cultures. I have grown up playing Gaelic and Camoige with St.Maurs Gaa and I am a member of Setanta Berlin. My father and I are obsessed with supporting Aston Villa.
I am 24 years old and I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. I moved to Melbourne with my family in June 2010 and have fallen completely in love with it. I am the third of four girls and absolutely love having a big family. My Pa, James Kerrigan, was born in Edenderry, a town in Country Offaly, where his father was Bank Manager of the Hibernian Bank of Ireland. When he was four years old he moved to Athy, where he remained until moving to Zimbabwe. In 2014 I completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Psychology and Drama and in 2015 I completed a Cert IV in Finance and Broking. I am currently working full time with ANZ Mortgage Solutions. A few of my hobbies are sailing, dancing, painting, singing and travelling.

I am a Junior Infants teacher in Palmerstown, County Dublin. I knew from a very young age that I really enjoyed working with children and youth work is a huge part of my life! My involvement with Rainbows Ireland and Focus Ireland has allowed me to meet the most inspirational children. I absolutely love to travel and have spent summers in California, Miami and Thailand! I’m so honoured and proud to be representing the ‘Farney County’ this year and I know this is going to be an unforgettable year of new experiences, new friendships and making a difference!

In 2014, I graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in History and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. After graduation I accepted an opportunity to pursue one of my passions in life, fitness, and became a barre and aerial fitness instructor. I would not trade this job for the world. It is very touching when my clients tell me that I have made a positive impact in their lives and health. I am a big believer that if you are capable of helping someone in need than you should take advantage of that.

I hail from the beautiful Kilcummin, Killarney and at 25, I am the second youngest of eight children. I work as a social care worker and I recently started working with Rehab Care Group, working with adults with intellectual disabilities and mental health difficulties so this is a really exciting time for me. I am a huge Kerry supporter and unfortunately a huge Liverpool fan. My ambition is to raise awareness of cancer, after I was diagnosed with the illness last year. With the past number of months I have become involved in delivering talks to the public and to people whose lives have been affected by cancer in a bid to give them a sense of hope and positivity.
I’m 23 and delighted to be the 2015 New York Rose. I come from Lisnacree, in Co. Down where I grew up in a family of nine. After graduating with a degree in Communications and PR, I pursued my dream of moving to NY. I work as an Intern for Construction Company J.T. Magen in Manhattan, whilst pursuing a career in Public Relations in the non-profit industry. A great passion of mine is to contribute to the wellbeing of the Irish American community in New York. Emigration can leave people feeling isolated, and unfortunately many people do not have access to health care. It is vital to raise awareness and encourage people to talk, and I am honored to be involved with Pieta House and their mission to expand to the US.
I am from Queenstown, the most beautiful place in New Zealand, and also the burial place of my great, great, great grandfather, William Egan from Killenaule, Tipperary. He arrived in Queenstown in 1867 and now has 300 descendants in our area! My great, great, great grandmother Mary Clifford left Castlemaine, County Kerry, and headed to New Zealand in 1877. We are still in contact with her family! I am a 21 year old University Student, completing post-graduate studies in Human Resources. Whenever I can, I escape home to my family in Queenstown to snowboard, tramp, waterski, wakeboard and generally enjoy the great outdoors. I share my good fortune in life with a 12 year old “buddy” called Willow, who I have been paired through the volunteer Big Buddy Programme in Dunedin.

I am 27 and was born and raised in The Netherlands by my Galwegian mother and Kerryborn father. I was part of the Redmond School of Irish Dancing performing across the Benelux countries. I completed my Junior Cert and Leaving Cert in Galway and completed my Medical Degree at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, graduating as a Doctor at the age of 22. Since graduating I have worked in England, Ireland and Australia and am now specialising in Emergency Medicine. Some of my unforgettable experiences include volunteering at Over The Wall Children’s Camp – a camp for children with serious, life limiting illnesses. I love music and during Uni I formed an Irish band called the Celtic Ti-grrs.
I am a proud native of Newtownforbes, Co. Longford. I am 25 years old and a primary school teacher in a two-teacher school in Longford, having graduated from Trinity College in 2010. I love all things musical, including playing the piano and taking part in musical productions with St. Mel’s Musical Society. I play football with my local ladies Gaelic football club, Clonguish CLG, although I am usually found warming the bench. I am a life-long member of Longford Mental Health Association, which promotes positive mental health and supports those recovering from mental illness, and their families and carers. I love to travel, but as luck would have it, whilst I was travelling to Lebanon, a chance encounter with a group of Roses travelling to Chernobyl led me to apply to become Longford Rose.
I am honoured to be selected as the 2015 Perth Rose of Tralee. I moved from Ireland to the very sunny Perth almost four years ago and now consider both places to be my home. I thoroughly enjoy the outdoor lifestyle Perth has to offer, especially having barbeques with my partner and friends on the beautiful Swan River overlooking the ever-changing city skyline. I am 27 and currently completing a Bachelor of Science Degree (Nursing) at Curtin University. I am very excited to attend the Rose of Tralee International Festival, as becoming a Rose has always been a childhood dream of mine. This once in a lifetime opportunity will certainly be an unforgettable experience, meeting new people whilst bringing old friends and family together, I cannot wait!

I became an avid traveller after a brilliant experience as an exchange student in St. Andrews, Scotland. I then went on to complete my degree in International Studies and Political Science from Arcadia University, taking full advantage of their programs to study in England, South Africa, the Netherlands and Taiwan. I currently work as a Culture Specialist for investment company, Vanguard Group. I have volunteered as a mentor with the Youth Mentoring Partnership, a program committed to helping kids master goal setting skills, build mental toughness, and forge character through intense physical fitness and sports.

I’m 19 years old and I live in a small quaint place called Cooley in Ireland’s smallest county, Louth! There is a lot of great things about Louth including my local village Carlingford, which is an extremely popular tourist destination. With the views of the Mourne Mountains, Queen Maeve’s Gap and the famous King John’s Castle, it really is a brilliant place to live. I am absolutely delighted to be representing my county and hope to do everyone proud. At the minute I am finishing a one year course studying business in Maynooth University, however I hope to make it as a singer someday. I never thought in a million years I would get to be the Louth rose at the age of nineteen and I am absolutely delighted to have this amazing opportunity.
I am honoured to be this year’s Meath Rose. I am 22 years old and from the beautiful coastal village of Bettystown. I spent an amazing six years at Gormanston College Co Meath where I graduated with a Student of the Year medal. I am a second year medical student in the Royal College of Surgeons Dublin. I adore what I am studying although during exam season I always consider alternative career options, such as joining the circus. I have a keen interest in working with children and am involved with the RCSI Paediatric Society. I have also volunteered for the Irish Cancer Society. I have been involved with musical theatre from an early age. I made a bucket list two years ago and am slowly ticking things off!
I’m 25 years and very excited to be the 2015 Queensland Rose of Tralee. This is my 3rd year living in Australia and I absolutely love living in Brisbane. I grew up in Ireland spending half my life in Dublin and the other half in County Mayo. My family are now settled in County Meath. I am a primary school teacher having studied at St Patrick’s College in Dublin and am currently studying a Master of Education in Brisbane. Since being in Australia I have been working as a full time youth minister for NET Ministries. Having enjoyed ballet dancing from a young age, I now enjoy keeping fit and healthy, getting in a run or going hiking around Brisbane. I love fine dining, baking, being creative and I’m always up for a laugh.
I’m 25 and originally from Limerick. I moved to Edinburgh three years ago to complete a postgraduate in Primary Teaching. I am currently working in Dunfermline, Fife in St. Margaret’s Primary school. Sports are a love of mine, I play football with Dunedin Connollys in Edinburgh and I train at a CrossFit gym in Dunfermline. I am a former Bunratty Castle Entertainer, so I enjoy a good singsong now and then. I’m the youngest of four girls, auntie to three fantastic nephews and my amazing mother Anne, is the rock that holds our family together. As a family, we have done a lot of fundraising for Cliona’s Foundation, a Limerick based charity, which is very close to our hearts.

I am 27 years-old and was born and raised in Northern Alberta. I grew up spending most of my time on my family acreage, snowmobiling in the winters, and swimming in the river in the summers. I moved to Edmonton, AB to complete my Bachelor of Arts degree and have since made Edmonton my home. After my degree I received a diploma as a Physical/ Occupational Therapy Assistant, a background that helped me secure my current job in Health & Safety. I like to challenge myself with new activities and I get a lot of my inspiration from my great aunt Marj who is always up for whatever new experience comes her way. My Irish ancestors (Co.Fermanagh, Co.Kilkenny) came to Canada through Newfoundland & Labrador and Ontario in the 1800s.
I’m an 18 year-old Leaving Cert student in Carnew, Co. Wicklow. I was born in South Africa and have lived most of my life in Ireland. In school I have been on the Student Council and this year I was elected Chairperson. I was a Senior Prefect and was also elected as a Meithal Leader. I have received two bronze, one silver, one gold Éach Suntasach Awards, and have also received my bronze Presidents Award. In 2014 I was one of three students from our school that got to travel to Uganda with Self Help Africa. I have done various fundraisers for the Wicklow Hospice Foundation. At 16 I was offered a job to work with Xpose Magazine Publishing Company for the summer doing research and design.

Autumn Winter Fashion Show 2015: CAMEL, grape, an explosion of colour with burnt orange and red are the colours that will dominate The Kerryman Rose of Tralee Fashion Show in the Festival Dome on Sunday 16th August. The main attraction this year will be a salute to Irish Designers, Irish Fashion and Irish craft to celebrate Irish Design Nationally & Internationally by the Rose of Tralee. This year’s fashion extravaganza, which was launched by Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh in the picturesque Tralee Town Park, will feature all the top boutiques and stores from the Munster region, including top Irish milliners. Keen fashionistas from Kerry and beyond who love style and want a lesson in what to wear for Autumn Winter know that the Rose of Tralee Fashion Showcase is the place to be in August. The 70’s are still influencing the collections especially in coats and jackets and one of the must-have trends is the cape which will feature heavily in the coming season. At the Hunt Museum earlier this year, Celia showcased many of the pieces from some of the great Irish Designers of the time and she is delighted to show some of these designs at the Rose of Tralee Fashion Show. Mary Kennedy’s broadcasting career started in 1978 when, as a secondary school teacher, she applied for a job as an RTÉ continuity announcer. A BA (Hons) graduate of UCD, she taught English in Brittany before returning to teach at Coláiste Bríde in Clondalkin, Dublin. Mary became a newscaster in 1992 and in 1995 she presented the 40th Eurovision Song Contest. Mary Kennedy joined the hugely successful regional news programme, Nationwide, in August 2004. She has written three books and a fourth, entitled What Matters, Reflections on Important Things is due out in August. This is Mary’s eighth year on the Rose of Tralee Judging Panel and her fourth as the Chairperson.

Paul O’Kane is Public Affairs Director with Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) which owns and operates Dublin and Cork Airports. He is responsible for all public relations and sponsorship activities at DAA. Originally from Whiteabbey, Co Antrim, Paul previously worked with The Sunday Tribune and The Irish Times. He is a graduate of Queen’s University Belfast and Dublin City University.
Muirne represented Limerick when she was crowned the 1994 Rose of Tralee. She lives in Portumna, Co Galway with her husband Michael and their three children Aoibhinn (14), Conor (13) and Meadhbh (7).
From County Meath, having completed his studies at Rockwell Hotel and Catering School Stephen worked with Ramada Hotels and Jurys Doyle Hotel Group. In 2007, he became Director and Deputy Chief Executive of Dalata Hotel Group, Ireland’s largest hotel group, parent company of Maldron Hotels, Clayton Hotels and Manager of the Company’s Partner Hotels.

As a harpist and singer, Muirne continues to perform in concerts at home and abroad. She also has an active involvement with many clubs and societies in her community. Muirne celebrates her 21st year as a Rose of Tralee and has been involved in adjudicating for a number of those years at County and at Regional level.
Liz Farrell has worked as a Private Secretary to the Chief Executive of Newbridge Silverware, Mr William Doyle for the past 15 years. She has travelled extensively as a representative of the company and has been involved in many major projects. Newbridge Silverware is the leading designer and producer of homeware, giftware and jewellery in Ireland. Liz has a keen interest in the Museum of Style Icons which is located at the Newbridge Silverware Visitor Centre, one of the top five free tourist attractions in Ireland.
Muirne enjoyed a successful career in sales and marketing before embarking on her own retail fashion business in 2003. She now owns two busy retail fashion stores and an online business.
Stephen is currently President of the Irish Hotels Federation, and a Member of the Board of Management of Castleknock College in Dublin. A keen sports fan, particularly of soccer, Gaelic football and rugby, his hobbies include playing tennis and walking.
Liz, a true lilywhite, has lived in County Kildare all her life. She is married to Seamus and they have two daughters Aideen and Clodagh. She has represented Kildare in Camogie and enjoys gardening, reading, cooking and listening to music.

Dáithí O Sé has presented a variety of programmes on RTÉ television including Today, The Daily Show, Epic Walks, New Years Eve Live and as a judge on The All Ireland Talent Show. Dáithí has recently been announced as the new presenter of The Taste Of Success. Dáithí has presented The Rose of Tralee five times on RTÉ One since 2010 and helped deliver the most watched Rose final in over a decade. Dáithí also took part in The Restaurant, RTÉ’s Celebrity You’re A Star in aid of the Make A Wish Foundation and Celebrities Go Wild for the People in Need Telethon.
Originally from Dingle in County Kerry, Dáithí studied in Mary Immaculate College in Limerick. He worked with TG4 for over 10 years as a weather presenter and presented a variety of programmes including Glór Tíre, Dáithí ar Highway 61 and Dáithí ar Route 66. Before becoming a weather presenter Dáithí worked as a teacher, a butcher, a ferry driver around the Blasket Islands and even a short stint as a ringmaster with Duffy’s Circus. Dáithí has a long association with the Rose of Tralee International Festival. He was the Chairperson of the Judging Panel in 2009 when the Festival celebrated its 50th year.

The lads had to carry out a range tasks including cycling, horse-riding, abseiling, kayaking, ironing and sewing in order to prove they will have the stamina to be a Rose Escort.
The Rose Escorts spent 48 hours in picturesque Kenmare, County Kerry where they learned to shear sheep, cut turf, build a dry stone wall, peel spuds and make poitín.
This year’s Rose Escorts enjoyed Boot Camp activities, supported by Kerry County Council, Bonane Community Development Council, Kenmare Marketing Action Group and Kerry Civil Defence. Some of the activities were staged on Molly Gallivan’s Farm while Beara Outdoor Adventure coordinated the abseiling and kayaking events. Accommodation was sponsored by the luxurious Kenmare Bay Hotel.
Nearly 200 men aged between 21 and 30 applied to become Rose Escorts at this year’s Rose of Tralee International Festival and following a detailed interview process, the final 32 were selected to take part in a Boot Camp weekend in Kenmare to help them prepare for a busy week in Tralee.
On Monday night 17th August, one of the 32 Rose Escorts will be announced as the Newbridge Silverware Escort of the Year for 2015 and he will walk away with a wonderful prize including a silver-plated cutlery canteen personalised with his family crest and a cheque for €1,000.
Gardaí, Hydrotherapists, Postmen, Teachers and Accountants were among the group who made it through the rigours of the Boot Camp for Rose of Tralee Escorts at the end of June.

From 2016 onwards, all the Roses selected at regional events throughout the world will travel to and enjoy one massive Festival in Tralee in August and experience much more of what Kerry has to offer. More Roses, Rose Escorts, Rose Buds, entertainment, family fun and visitors can only mean that Tralee will enjoy a major boost to the local economy beyond the €12 million that the Festival already delivers.

at the Brandon Conference Centre, Tralee The Rose of Tralee International Festival, which is now in its 56th year, is a perennial favourite in the hearts and minds of the Irish diaspora; from rural fireside armchair, to stateside Irish bar, every year, more and more Irish people tune-in and soak-up a little bit of the beauty of Kerry and hear the stories and journeys of the 32 Roses. This year, for the first time, the Rose of Tralee International Festival will provide the perfect backdrop for the introduction of a new and important dimension; a celebration and recognition of the business ambitions and achievements of modern women of the Irish diaspora. The one-day conference, which is being organised by Enterprise Ireland, is aptly themed, “Bloom for Ireland” as it will aim to harness the power of the Irish female diaspora, to contribute to continued economic growth and prosperity in Ireland.

The conference will be opened by Minister for Justice, Frances Fitzgerald TD, and will be hosted by Minister for the Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan TD. Conference delegates will hear from Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh as well as some other Roses, many of whom have successful careers in business both in Ireland and else where. 2005 Rose of Tralee, Dr. Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin who is a Doctor of Mathematics Education, will share her worklife experience and talk about the need to encourage more women into the STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths). Senior female figures from the Public Sector, mulit-national sector, the media industry and the indigenous business sectors will share their insights and provide valuable learning take-aways on such themes as leadership with authenticity, achieving business scale and how diversity drives innovation.

The Conference represents an ideal opportunity to promote and showcase Ireland, and the Kingdom of Kerry in particular and to celebrate Irish business success. It respresents a call on the Irish diaspora to use their influence to ‘open doors of opportunity’ for the Irish in their country of residence. Fels Point Hotel - The Next Level by Dick & Eibhlín Henggeler
Ever since our late daughter, Dorothy, became the Washington D. C. Rose in 2011, we have been avid supporters of the Rose of Tralee International Festival and everything it stands for. Our family looked for an opportunity to give back to the festival. In June of this year we purchased the Fels Point Hotel – the home of the Festival. This all came about through a sequence of events which we feel were guiding us by some external force.
He admitted that he did not know what exactly he meant by that. As we talked further it became clear that the festival lacked a permanent presence in Tralee - a Rose Museum or Rose Visitor Centre or even a Dome. However these all seemed economically unfeasible.
Every August the main events of the Festival occur in “The Dome”. The Dome is a large marquee that is set up on a vacant lot beside the Fels Point Hotel for two weeks. Instantly it became obvious that this was what we had to do. If we got the hotel, we would have our base for the Rose of Tralee Festival. In order to purchase the hotel, we had to make two bids and we won. So now we own a hotel. For it to truly become the home for the Roses, it will need to be exceptional and elegant. The renovation has already started and this winter it will continue with an extensive
rework of the downstairs area. When this is done, the hotel will be renamed. This part of the plan is falling nicely into place but we have one more important thing to do. The Festival has waited a very long time for its Dome and it now seems to be at hand. Building a permanent Dome will be challenging in a variety of ways but it is time for it to be done. Now let’s just see what happens next.

The Rose Walk is a new pathway through Tralee Town Park linking Denny Street with Fels Point Hotel - two of the main centres of activity during the Rose of Tralee International Festival. Kerry County Council Tralee Municipal District has recently completed a new pedestrian link which will be officially dedicated to the memory of Dorothy Henggeler, the 2011 Washington DC Rose, who sadly passed away in 2014. The ceremony will take place in the presence of her family and friends during this year’s Festival.
