A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR Dear Cherished Audiences, It warms our hearts in Performing Arts Brampton to welcome you to our 2022-23 Season! We’re grateful we never left each other’s side. We stayed connected by immediately going virtual. We supported each other, doubling down on our celebration of local Brampton artists. And together, we showed the world Brampton is resilient. Our 22-23 Season is the fruition of how we planned to re-open with a bang. All the great national and international artists who had to postpone are offered again, alongside many new and exciting additions. All the great local artists who filled our screens with their extraordinary talent are returning in-person, alongside new and vibrant additions. Our prices are intentionally, remarkably affordable, thanks to the enlightened support we receive from our Mayor and City Councillors, who share our commitment to local artists and recognize how important performing arts are to you our audience.

Roch Voisine, 2019

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES THE BALLETTM OCTOBER 19, 2022 7:30 PM

THE ROSE MAINSTAGE

CANADA’S BALLET JÖRGEN DU CANADA

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen presents Anne of Green Gables The BalletTM , a uniquely Canadian story told through a full symphonic ballet score for the first time in history. Created as an extended orchestration of Anne of Green Gables, The Musical, this production is made possible through the assistance of the heirs of Lucy Maud Montgomery. The ballet tells the story of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan girl who is mistakenly sent to Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, a middle-aged brother and sister who had intended to adopt a boy, to help them on their farm. Set in the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island, Marilla insists Anne must be returned to the orphanage, but once Matthew takes a strong liking to Anne, she decides to let her stay. A memorable character for generations of readers, Anne is highly imaginative, talkative, eager to please and, at times, quite dramatic. She is also quite defensive of her appearance, despising her red hair and pale, thin frame. Anne takes much joy in life and adapts quickly, thriving in the close-knit farming village. Her imagination and talkativeness soon brighten up Green Gables and this monumental ballet.

ANIMAL CIRQUE ALFONSE OCTOBER 21, 2022 8:00 PM

In Animal, A Farm Story, Cirque Alfonse takes us on a journey of discovery through a series of slightly surreal farm fables served up with a touch of irreverence, impressive virtuosity and the company’s familiar comic touch. In this re-invented agricultural world, the farm is turned upside down and the barn turned inside out! A gentleman farmer has surrounded himself with some familiar but slightly outlandish creatures: the chickens have teeth, the ducks are slightly menacing and the cows are kicking up a fuss. In this “farm fantasy”, the imagination conjures up stories from childhood, rural life proves to be both energetic and poetic, and clichés are joyfully turned on their head. The team of Cirque Alfonse, once again, flourishes in its multidisciplinary approach where circus, song, dance and theatre all come together, driven by original live music … an irresistible mix of tradition and soul the troupe calls “agricultural funk!” A production for young and old alike, ANIMAL is the farm gone haywire!

ALI HASSAN: DOES THIS TASTE FUNNY

Deconstructing a chef’s journey from food to comedy.

JANUARY 21, 2023 8:00 PM

LBP THEATRE

Ali Hassan’s career plans started off as simply as anyone’s: become a chef, get a food show on television, get a second food show on television, be the face of the network and have oven mitts with his face on them. But sometimes things get in the way of your dreams: like your parents’ disappointment, your family of four children and your successful comedy career. This show is a hilarious exposition of Ali’s journey in and out of the culinary world in which he spent 12 years. It’s a little like Eat, Pray, Love …. minus the Prayer.

SPIRIT AND LEGACY OF BLACK MUSIC

From the moment Black people landed on North American soil, their music took root and became the basis or much of the popular music we hear today. There is an endless list of exceptional Black musicians who have been lost to history while their white counterparts gained fame. From church hymnals to the blues, from jazz to rock ’n’ roll, R&B and rap, we owe much of our musical history to Black culture, and it’s time to give credit where it is due.

PADDINGTON GETS IN A JAM

In this original slapstick comedy, Paddington goes next door to borrow a cup of sugar from his neighbor Mr. Curry, who is in a panic because he’s expecting a visit from his Great Aunt Matilda. And so, Paddington volunteers to help Mr Curry with his to-do list before her imminent arrival.

THE ROSE MAINSTAGE

Throughout the afternoon Paddington attempts items on the list – repair the pipes in the bathroom, vacuum the floors, install new wallpaper, bake a cake…. But in typical Paddington fashion, nothing goes to plan. The pipes burst and flood the bathroom. The vacuum cleaner misbehaves and leaves dust everywhere. Paddington adds too much self-rising flour to the cake, and his efforts at wallpapering turn into catastrophic (and sticky) chaos!
