VIRTUAL PERFORMANCE PRESENTED BY THE ROSE BRAMPTON AND MY SMILE DENTISTRY

2021

WELCOME TO CENTRE STAGE 2021 It's usually danger that makes our hearts beat faster and stronger. It's often adversity that sharpens our minds and heightens our senses. But sometimes, like the precious hours we have spent with the students who comprise our 2021 Centre Stage Conservatory, our hearts and minds are similarly exhilarated as we share in the positive growth of young people. On behalf of the Donors, Sponsors and Performing Arts Staff whose generous support make this program possible, please accept these heartfelt thanks to each of our 2021 Conservatory students. You gifted us your trust, rewarded our workshop leaders with your dedication, and given all of us the honour to be a part of your lives. Yours sincerely, Steven Schipper Executive Artistic Director, Performing Arts Brampton

Congratulations to all of the young artists presented though this year’s 2021 Centre Stage Conservatory. You have worked hard, learned, practiced, and we are so proud to showcase your work. This year, we’ve created many memories together. I hope these memories will sustain and inspire you as you follow your path. Whatever roads life takes you on, whether it’s the one of professional artist, researcher, educator, supporter, administrator, advocate, technician, student, some combination of those – or maybe into another field entirely! – the things we’ve learned together with the many artists who led workshops with our group will definitely stay with us. As you move forward in life and navigate through the changes ahead of you, keep practising your art – and keep sharing it. Your art matters, your voice matters, and your creativity is a gift not only for yourself, but for everyone who is touched by your art. Thank you for being part of Centre Stage Conservatory this year. Christina Akrong Education & Outreach Coordinator, Performing Arts

SPECIAL THANKS Since its inception as a Youth Awards Gala Performance in 2006 and evolution into a conservatory training program in 2019, Centre Stage has been generously supported by The Rose’s wonderful Donors. Without their enthusiastic support for arts education and access for youth in our community, this program would not be possible. Presenting Sponsor MySmile Dentistry has been an invaluable partner of Centre Stage for many years now. We believe it’s important for young artists to know their creative work is valuable and worth investing in, and we are very grateful to a partner who exemplifies this year after year through generous support of emerging Brampton artists. Many thanks to Mayor Brown and Council for their enthusiastic support of Brampton’s youth, and arts and culture initiatives. Sincere appreciation to the entire Performing Arts team for supporting the Centre Stage Conservatory training program, our incredible instructors who shared their wisdom and passion, and Christina De Melo for her exceptional editing of our virtual presentation.

Hello Brampton and neighbouring cities, On behalf of my late Dr. Cherilyn Sterling-Case and MySmile Dentistry, it is a privilege for us to continue to be part of this wonderful organization and the Centre Stage Conservatory program. The Rose Theatre continues to be a very strong advocate for our city. We are here this evening to encourage you young artists, and will continue to support the work that the City of Brampton and The Rose are doing in our community. Thank you to all the participants who took the time out of their schedules to be a part of this event. We applaud you, especially in a time such as this where you could give up because COVID has changed things drastically. Sometimes one gains strength from each other, but sometimes you got to take matters into your own hands and pull on strength you have from within. This is why I am so grateful to be part of this event, knowing you can’t get together in person, and yet collectively you put on such a fantastic show. It is the perfect demonstration of pulling strength from each other, and yourself. Despite situations like this where you can’t be in the physical space, continue to do the work. Hard work will pay off. To you young people who are doing everything within your power to pursue your passion with support from your families and the City of Brampton, we will continue to be a support to you. Thank you all for making Brampton what it is. Without you, Brampton would only be a space – or a place – but as the great Luther said “A chair is not a chair, unless someone is sitting there. A house is not a house unless someone is living there.” Thank you for making Brampton a home. We will always be a chair for someone to sit in, and continue to do our part to support this great city. Thank you all and congratulations to you all once more. Devon Case
