Art on the Commons is a juried display and sale of fine arts and fine crafts located in the Civic Commons in Kettering, Ohio. Art on the Commons includes over one hundred artists from around the country in a scenic park in the vibrant culture of the Dayton area. Live music and entertainment enhance the festival atmosphere and several food and drink vendors offer a variety of options for the palate. Art on the Commons has been recognized as an outstanding festival by national and local artist news publications. Kettering is located in the Greater Dayton area with a resident population of over 573,000. The region is home to a vibrant arts and culture community, with a high level of demonstrated support and attendance from its residents. Civic Commons is centrally located south of Dayton with easy access to main roadways and interstate highways. Attendance at the 2012 one-day festival was estimated at over 7,000.

2013 JURORS

This festival’s jury features some of the most talented artists and art appreciators in the region. Julia Gourley is the Executive Director of the Krasl Art Center in St. Joseph, Michigan. Dedicated to representing a wide range of artists from around the world, the Krasl exhibits temporary and permanent exhibitions, as well as a robust public art program and educational opportunities. The Krasl is also host to the annual Art Fair on the Bluff festival, which features over 200 artists. David Kirchner is a ceramic artist and an instructor at Rosewood Arts Centre. He is also the owner of H David Clay Studio in downtown Dayton, Ohio. Sue Ellen Boesch is a painter and a member of the Kettering Arts Council.

ENTRY INFORMATION

All artist participants must be juried, no exceptions. Entries are accepted by mail or electronically. A non-refundable $20 jury fee, complete application, and a separate check for the booth fee are required by March 30, 2013. The booth fee will only be deposited to artists accepted into the Festival; artists not selected will have their check sent back to them along with any application material. Checks should be made out to “City of Kettering.” Please note that the jury fee check will be processed immediately, and the booth fee checks for accepted applicants will be cashed on April 30. Entries should be sent to: Art on the Commons 2013, Rosewood Arts Centre, 2655 Olson Drive, Kettering, Ohio, 45420 or aotc@ketteringoh.org. By mail: Include a CD with four digital images. Digital submissions should be in JPEG format, 1000 ppi at the largest dimension and a minimum of 72 dpi. Title each digital image with artist’s name and number of image coordinating with the entry form listing (i.e. marysmith_1.jpg). The CD must be accompanied by the completed entry form, and two separate checks for the jury fee of $20 and the booth fee (please see booth size fees). CDs will not be returned without a selfaddressed stamped envelope. Electronically: Visit aotc.ketteringoh.org. Download the entry form, and email four digital images to rosewood@ketteringoh.org. Applicants must send the completed application form and two separate checks for the jury fee and the booth fee (please see booth size fees) by US mail. All images submitted for jurying must represent recently produced work that will be offered for sale at this festival. All new entries to Art on the Commons are required to include an additional booth image or sketch. A two-person partnership exhibiting one product may qualify as a single exhibitor if this is explained at the time of application. If more than one artist wishes to share a booth, each artist must submit a separate entry form and four images. Each entry must include one check or one money order for booth fee, the completed entry form and four images. Individual artists with more than one medium must copy the entry form and send attached with four images of each medium. A limit of two media per artist entry. Shared booths are limited to two media entries. ENTRIES MUST BE POSTMARKED BY MARCH 30, 2013

ELIGIBILITY FOR ARTISTS

ENTRY FORM

Only fine arts and fine crafts will be considered for display. All works must be of original design and produced by hand. No kits, handicrafts, or manufactured items will be accepted for jurying or displayed in the booths. Only individual artists may submit work. Submissions by retail outlets or galleries are not eligible. Commercial reproductions in the form of stationery and notecard items may not exceed 25% of the total work on display. The Art on the Commons committee retains the right to request the removal of work not meeting the quality and standards represented in the juried slides or the eligibility requirements. Artists with a history of not appearing on the day of show without notification will not be eligible for jurying.

The artist must be present in the booth during the festival. No agents or employees may represent the artist, and all items must be handmade by the artist.

The exhibit area is paved. Staking of canopies will not be permitted. Indicate any special needs you may have for your booth in the space provided on the entry form, including requests to adjoin another artist’s booth. Demonstrations are encouraged. Booth set-up will be from 6:30 to 10 am. the day of the festival. Your booth must not be dismantled before 5 p.m.

#5 Booth Display (first time exhibitor) Artist’s Agreement: I have read the prospectus and hereby agree to all conditions outlined for the 2013 Art on the Commons. All work that I exhibit will be my own in the medium in which I am registered. I understand and agree that if I become a participant in the 2013 Art on the Commons, images of me and/or my work may be used by the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department and the Kettering Arts Council for promotional or publicity purposes. I also understand that the City of Kettering will not be responsible for damage or theft of work displayed during Art on the Commons. The Art on the Commons Committee reserves the right to make final interpretation of all rules.
