Rosewood Arts Centre is a unique creative community program and facility located in Kettering, Ohio. A division of the City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, Rosewood presents opportunities for the public to experience the visual and performing arts. Over 350 classes are offered annually for youth and adults as well as gallery exhibitions, theater performances, drop-in facilities, artist studios, and special events. KETTERING ARTS COUNCIL The Kettering Arts Council, in partnership and collaboration with the community, strives to provide access to the arts for all ages, encourage a passion for the arts and promote art appreciation and education. Established in 1967, the Kettering Arts Council is a 15-member citizen advisory committee overseen by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts department. The committee includes individuals with a strong desire to promote and advocate fine arts experiences in our region. The Arts Council meets once per month at Rosewood Arts Centre to discuss issues pertaining to the Rosewood Arts Centre’s current and future programming. SIGNING INTERPRETER AVAILABLE The City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is pleased to offer a signing interpreter for hearingimpaired patrons who want to take a class at Rosewood Arts Centre or the Kettering Recreation Complex. CLASS CANCELLATION Rosewood Arts Centre reserves the right to cancel any class and to substitute faculty when necessary. Classes will be canceled three working days prior to the starting date when there is insufficient enrollment.

OPEN STUDIOS Open studio sessions allow artists the opportunity to work on their own in an equipped creative environment. The studios are available when classes are not in session. Call 296-0294 to learn available hours and any necessary orientation or pre-requisites. VISITOR POLICY: All participants and observers must pay open studio fees to stay longer than 15 minutes. Children under 5 years old are not permitted in open studio. Those under 16 must be supervised by an adult 21 years of age or older (no more than two children per adult). All studio patrons, including currently enrolled students, must sign in and pay fees at the Rosewood office. All open studio work-in-progress may not be left more than 30 minutes unattended. STUDENT POLICY: Adult students currently enrolled in studio classes will receive a student pass card for four sessions of studio time. Students staying over 30 minutes after the end of class must sign in and use this pass card. OPEN STUDIO FEES: Pottery – Sculpture – Painting – Enameling – Glass – Dance Drop-in fee per visit: $4/resident; $8/non-resident; Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $30/resident; $60/non-resident. Supplies are not included in open studio fees. LOCKER RENTAL: Lockers are available for rental on a pre-pay six-month or yearly basis. Six-month: $20/resident; $25/nonresident; Yearly: $35/resident; $45/non-resident. POTTERY STUDIO: Clay fee of $19 includes 25 pounds of clay and related firing and glazes. Only clay purchased at Rosewood may be used in our studios and firings. Clay purchased at Rosewood may not be removed from the facility for work at home. You must supply your own tools. The studio is designed as a community facility and, as such, is not equipped to accommodate production pottery quantities. All open studio and private studio users are limited to three (3) cubic feet per week of kiln use. Unclaimed pieces left after 30 days will be discarded. Attendance at a free pottery studio orientation is required of all first-time participants. DARKROOM: Participants must be at least 16 years old, demonstrate previous experience in black and white darkroom processes, and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Check at the Rosewood office for more information on eligibility or for the orientation schedule and to make an appointment. Darkroom fee per visit: $5/resident; $10/non-resident; Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $35/resident; $70/non-resident. Reminder: Open Studio Passes must be processed by the individual holder. Open Studio Passes are for individual use only and not to be shared among friends or family.

ARTIST STUDIOS Artist studios are available at Rosewood Arts Centre and applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed as studio spaces become available. Spaces are available for artists with an active practice and a commitment to sharing their work with the Kettering community. Rosewood Arts Centre is proud to present the second annual A Rosewood Holiday and the fabulous Demo Day open house event! This festive event will feature original artworks of R o s e w o o d f a c u l t y, students, and artists for purchase, as well as highlight fine art classes and activities for both youth and adults with demonstrations and presentations. Proceeds from this event will go directly to the artists and the Kettering Parks Foundation. 2

The Kettering Children’s Choir The Kettering Children’s Choir was founded in 1986 and now includes over 200 singers from the Greater Dayton region, ages 8 through 18. The Choraleers, Chorus, Chorale, and Concert Choir sing music of all periods and types, from Renaissance to contemporary, and rehearse weekly at Rosewood Arts Centre. Basic Theatre Instruction

Kettering Children’s Theatre

Age(s) 9 - 14 This class provides instruction in the basic theatre skills of pantomime, movement, voice and diction, improvisation, script work, audition techniques and performing a monologue. This is a prerequisite for the Kettering Children’s Theatre and Advanced Theatre Instruction.

Age(s) 10 - 14 The Kettering Children’s Theatre Production is a youth theatre program for elementary through junior high students. The theatre program produces two plays per year. Prerequisites to this production are the Basic Theatre Instruction and/or Advanced Theatre Instruction classes at Rosewood Arts Centre or by permission of the instructor. If you have previous theatre experience but have not taken either class at Rosewood you may perform a monologue at auditions. The monologue must be memorized. Monologues will be available in the Rosewood Arts Centre front office. All potential participants are encouraged to take at least one acting class or a summer camp. Students are required to make a commitment to three rehearsal sessions per week. Parent participation is welcomed. Registration deadline for the fall production is August 27. Registration forms must be dropped off at Rosewood Arts Centre. Advanced Theatre Instruction Age(s) 9 - 14 This course builds on the skills gained in Basic Theatre Instruction. We will focus on proper breathing techniques, voice projection, speech and diction exercises, audition techniques developing a character, and performing a short play. The final play will be performed before an audience. Prerequisite: Basic Theatre Instruction. OPEN STUDIO FREE FRIDAYS! Open studios in pottery, glass, darkroom, dance and painting will be open without charge to Kettering residents each Friday during the fall quarter of 2013. An adult must accompany children under 16 years, and participants must be at least five years of age. Orientations or classes must be completed before studio use in pottery, glass and the darkroom. All studio users must register in the office prior to studio use.

YOUTH/TEEN DANCE Young dancers will learn and build on the basics of ballet, jazz, and tap dance techniques! Classes are geared for ages 3 through early teens.

Beginning Tap Dance/Ballet Combo Age(s) 3 - 5 Basic tap and ballet steps will “move” us during our class. We will do stretching, splits, straddles and more in this 45-minute class. Creative Writing/Publication II

Age(s) 16 + Belly dancing, a feminine tradition, has an ancient history. It was started in the Middle East as a series of motions to strengthen the pelvic and abdominal muscles in preparation for childbirth. In ancient Egypt and Turkey, only the best dancers would gain the attention of the sultan. Our class will consist of basic belly dance folk steps and cabaret-style dance moves, along with floor exercises and the use of veils. Age(s) 16 + This course explains how to analyze your story concept and implement the appropriate steps to produce a Book Proposal to submit to potential publishers, in a timely fashion and without much stress. The course deals with writing tasks such as: a story synopsis, character thumbnails and cover letters. The course also looks at the publishing industry and examines how editors judge submissions. Attendees should have completed Course I or have the equivalent knowledge. There is a limit of 20 students for this course.

If you have attended one of our classes or purchased a pass and are dissatisfied, call us. We will offer a prorated refund.
