CLASS CANCELLATION Rosewood Arts Centre reserves the right to cancel any class and to substitute faculty when necessary. Classes will be canceled three working days prior to the starting date when there is insufficient enrollment.

OPEN STUDIOS Ready to bring your work to the next level? Take advantage of affordable and professionally equipped spaces. Call (937) 296-0294 for available hours and required orientations or prerequisites. VISITOR POLICY: All participants and observers must pay open studio fees to stay longer than 30 minutes. Children under 5 years old are not permitted in open studio. Those under 16 must be supervised by an adult 21 years of age or older (no more than two children per adult). All studio patrons, including currently enrolled students, must sign in and pay fees at the Rosewood office. All open studio work-in-progress may not be left more than 30 minutes unattended. STUDENT POLICY: Adult students currently enrolled in studio classes will receive a student pass card for four sessions of studio time. Students staying over 30 minutes after the end of class must sign in and use this pass card. Unclaimed pieces left after 30 days will be discarded or considered a donation to Rosewood. OPEN STUDIO FEES Ceramics – Sculpture – Painting – Dance Drop-in fee per visit: $4/resident; $8/non-resident Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $30/resident; $60/non-resident Darkroom – Glass Drop-in fee per visit: $5/resident; $10/non-resident Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $35/resident; $70/non-resident Free First Fridays: Open studio fees are waived for all Kettering residents. Supplies are not included in open studio fees. LOCKER RENTAL: Lockers are available for rental on a pre-pay six-month or yearly basis. Six-month: $20/resident; $25/non-resident; Yearly: $35/resident; $45 non-resident. CERAMIC STUDIO: Clay fee of $20 includes 25 pounds of clay and related firing and glazes. Only clay purchased at Rosewood may be used in our studios and firings. Clay purchased at Rosewood may not be removed from the facility for work at home. You must supply your own tools. The studio is designed as a community facility and, as such, is not equipped to accommodate production pottery quantities. All open studio and private studio users are limited to three (3) cubic feet per week of kiln use. Attendance at a free ceramic studio orientation is required of all first-time participants.

Artist studios are available at Rosewood Arts Centre for artists with an active practice and a commitment to sharing their work with the Kettering community. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed as studio spaces become available. Studio spaces start at $85/month for Kettering residents. DARKROOM: Participants must be at least 16 years old, demonstrate previous experience in black and white darkroom processes, and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Check at the Rosewood office for more information on eligibility or for the orientation schedule and to make an appointment. GLASS STUDIO: The glass studio is available to students who wish to finish class work, have attended a class previously or have prior experience in cold or warm glass. Participants must be at least 16 years old and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Fees for kiln or torch usage are $5 respectively for up to 3 hours. 1

REGIONAL ART COLLECTION AT THE KETTERING GOVERNMENT CENTER The City of Kettering established a permanent art collection to commemorate the renovation of the Government Center at 3600 Shroyer Road. Featuring several of the most accomplished visual artists of Kettering and the Miami Valley, the collection represents the natural world, from Ketteringâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s own Hills and Dales Metropark to the nearby Clifton Gorge. This collection of over eighty works includes black and white photographs, colorful oil paintings and multi-layered ink prints. Located throughout the offices of 3600 Shroyer, the Regional Art Collection is accessible to the public by special appointment and scheduled tours. Guided tours of the City of Kettering Government Center Art Collection are scheduled on the second Tuesday of the month from 5 to 6 p.m. and by special appointment. This course, specialized for teens ages 13 to 17, offers comprehensive instruction in many aspects of fine art painting. Each meeting is based on group lessons along with individualized instruction in a professional studio setting. Many topics, such as still life, landscape, and thematic subject matter will be covered in depth. Advanced Theatre Instruction Age(s) 9 – 14

YOUTH EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHT

This course builds on the skills gained in Basic Theatre Instruction. We will focus on proper breathing techniques, voice projection, speech and diction exercises, audition techniques (including selection and preparation of individual audition pieces), developing a character, and performing a short play. The final play will be performed before an audience. Enrollment is limited to 12 to allow for the depth of work required. Prerequisite: Basic Theatre Instruction. Meet dance instructor, Sammie Sue Edmonsdon! Sammie Sue has taught both youth and adult dance classes for the City of Kettering for over 30 years. She studied dance with the New York City Ballet, at Sinclair Community College and with renowned dance instructor, Jorg Fasting, of the Columbus Ballet. She initially taught ballet only, but has branched out to include tap and jazz.

The Kettering Children’s Choir

The Kettering Children’s Choir is a non-profit organization dedicated to vocal ensemble and choral school education for youth. The Chorus, Chorale, and Concert Choir sing music of all periods and types, from Renaissance to contemporary, and rehearse weekly at Rosewood Arts Centre. Join Allison for a very special event, where she will give a reading of her latest release, THE MOON GONE DARK, the sequel to her hit 2013 debut novel STRINGS, followed by a Q&A. Reduction Firing

Get unique and beautiful glaze results using our reduction kiln and cone 10 specific glazes. Patrons may use up to 3 cubic feet of space per firing included in the cost of class or open studio use. Cost of additional space needed in a single firing is $20 per cubic foot. Firings are scheduled when enough work is generated to fill the kiln (generally once a month). Anyone interested in firing work in the reduction kiln may sign up for an individual orientation in the Rosewood office.

Explore the history and aesthetics of Raku, a traditional Japanese firing style. Students are provided with enough clay to make their own forms during the first class meeting. The Kettering Civic Band (KCB) originated in 1959 as a 12-member ensemble. ADULT EDUCATOR SPOTLIGHT Meet fiber arts instructor, Elizabeth Martin!

Elizabeth Martin is a longtime fiber arts enthusiast. Introduced to knitting by her mother when she was seven years old, she has been exploring the craft ever since. For the past few years, she has studied the traditional knitting styles and techniques used by different cultures around the world. Her skills include the cleaning, processing, and spinning of raw wool into finished yarn, which she uses in her own projects. Recently she has begun exploring the art of needle felting to create unique and charismatic figures from unspun fiber. Elizabeth has brought fiber arts to Rosewood through classes such as Creative Knitting for Beginners, Beginning Sweater Knitting and Needle Felted Gnomes.

SPRING 2016 INSTRUCTORS Jesy Anderson and Tracy McElfresh are the co-owners of Sew Dayton. They publish a monthly column in the Dayton Daily News, and create educational opportunities for fashion-related events, shopping and fashion tips throughout the Dayton region. Dale Archer co-owns Gemini Dance Studio and has been teaching dance for all ages and levels for decades. Stephanie Beiser received her B.F.A. in ceramics from Bowling Green State University. She teaches and coordinates the ceramics department at Edison Community College in Piqua, as well as conducting various ceramic and art related workshops throughout the Dayton area. Nancy Boss is a multitalented and longtime instructor, teaching a variety of youth and adult dance classes. She has been teaching various dance styles for decades, and began teaching at Rosewood Arts Centre in 1985. She has studied dance with Jorg Fastings from the Columbus Ballet Company and at Ballet Arts in New York City. Jason Boyer has been working in glass for over 15 years, and exhibits his work regularly in juried art festivals, including Art on the Commons in Kettering. David Brand and Sandra Picciano-Brand are a husband/wife team of Dayton-based jewelry artists. They exhibit at national-level juried art shows and have won numerous first place and best-of-show awards for their jewelry and sculpture. Jane Brennan holds a B.A. in Art Education from the University of Dayton. She has taught in a variety of settings and has experience in many art media. Teresa Connair is a professional actress with credits in stage, television, movies and voice-overs. Since earning her B.F.A. in Acting from Wright State University she has acted in and directed over 150 productions. She is the founder and director of her own theatre company, Undercroft Players in Dayton Ohio, and also teaches acting at the Oakwood Community Center. Andy Dailey earned a BFA from Wright State University and an MFA from Miami University in and is the Cultural Arts Supervisor at Rosewood Arts Centre. Greg Dearth graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. He is a member of the Portrait Society of America and has been a guest lecturer and instructor at the Columbus College of Art and Design and Atlanta’s Portfolio Center. His work has been included in many of the juried Society of Illustrators’ annual shows, Communication Arts, American Illustration and Print magazines. Allison M. Dickson is an author whose novels include The Last Supper, Strings, as well as several dozen short stories. She has published her short stories both independently an in magazines and anthologies including Apex. Sammie Sue Edmondson has taught both youth and adult dance classes for the City of Kettering for over 30 years. She studied dance with the New York City Ballet, at Sinclair Community College and with renowned dance instructor, Jorg Fasting, of the Columbus Ballet. Shannon Fent has been Kettering Children’s Theatre’s director for the since 2007 She has Associate’s degree from Sinclair Community College in Theatre Production. Peter Frederick is a watercolor painter who illuminates the landscapes of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Kentucky. Peter is a self-taught watercolorist with a background in graphic and landscape design. While known for distinctive sceneries, this Dayton artist has also ventured into abstraction with his painting series Abstract Contours. Sharon Govender has lived and worked in South Africa, earning a degree from the University of Durban, Westville. She studied painting, photography, Indian Art and African Art in addition to other art-related courses. Sara Hawkins received a BA in Studio Art with an emphasis in ceramics from Humboldt State University in 2010. She has worked as a studio potter and ceramics technician while developing her craft and creating strong ties with the visual arts community in the Miami Valley. Sara is currently the Ceramic Facilities Coordinator at Rosewood Art Centre and Resident Artist at John Bryan Community Pottery in Yellow Springs.

Trish Jeffers-Zeh is an awarding winning artist, teacher and public speaker. Certified in PMC, Senior/ACW she is dedicated in the advancement of the metal clay Arts teaching all levels of Metal Clay. She also offers certification and mentoring of metal clay instructors. Her work has been shown internationally, sold in galleries, displayed in art museums and she is a published author of instructional articles for magazines and other publications. Trish teaches nationally as well as through Rosewood Art Centre. Tom Kinarney is a former professional artist who has done freelance illustration for numerous companies, locally and throughout the country. He has taught art at the former Riverbend Art Center and currently at the Fairborn Art Association and Rosewood Arts Centre. H. David Kirchner has a degree in art from Cedarville College. He also studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. David operates the H. David Studio/Gallery in downtown Dayton. He has worked in clay since 1984. Donna Kuszpa has studied wirewrapping with John Kleber in Columbus. She has taught wirewrapping since 1993 at Riverbend Arts Centre. April Lemaster has been studying ceramics for over a decade. She has attended numerous workshops and conferences for ceramic techniques around the country. She has exhibited her ceramic work and received awards in the greater Dayton region. Elizabeth Martin is a longtime fiber arts enthusiast. Introduced to knitting by her mother when she was seven years old, she has been exploring the craft ever since. For the past few years, she has studied the traditional knitting styles and techniques used by different cultures around the world. Her skills include the cleaning, processing, and spinning of raw wool into finished yarn, which she uses in her own projects. Recently she has begun exploring the art of needle felting to create unique and charismatic figures from unspun fiber. Steven Powers teaches youth clay classes, including the popular Exploring Pottery Skills, but is always willing to pitch in and help with summer camps, too. A graduate of Sinclair Community College, Steven earned a certificate in Photographic Technology. In addition to photography, he creates beautiful, functional ceramic pieces and studied painting, drawing, sculpture and woodworking while at Sinclair. Steve was also a five-time winner of Sinclair’s Olga Botezat award. Loretta Puncer founded Gallery 510 Fine Art in 2007 as an initiative to culturally revive Dayton’s Historic Oregon District by creating a channel for local and regional artists, including herself, to display their work. Puncer’s paintings attract private collectors and patrons both locally and from across the country. In addition to managing the gallery and creating artwork of her own, she shares her passion for art through teaching a variety of classes and workshops both at Gallery 510 Fine Art, and Rosewood Arts Center. She received her BFA from the University of Dayton. Amanda Schommer has a M.A. in Spanish Literature and Linguistics from Miami University. She has spent the past 9+ years teaching Spanish to a wide variety students ranging from preschool children to senior citizens and tutoring middle and high school age students. Leonard Williams is best known for his vibrant watercolor scenes. His paintings have been recognized in numerous juried shows, both locally and nationally, featured in private and corporate collections across the country. His work can be seen in “The New Creative Artist” by well-known artist/author Nita Leland and he is a featured artist in her newest book Confident Color. In addition, his drawings appear in a series of learning and activity books for children in grades one through five produced by Children’s Historical Publishing. Sharon Williams began working with clay in college and has been involved with clay art at Rosewood Arts Centre since 1992. Her experience includes classes with potters from Yellow Springs and the Greater Cincinnati Area. At Rosewood, Sharon has instructed preschoolers thru adults in clay and arts. She has exhibited and sold pottery in the Tri-State Area. Beth Wright is a dancer, choreographer and educator of dance. She has been sharing her art form since she was a teenager, and spent years as a member of Rhythm in Shoes as well as a resident artist for Muse Machine. Kathy Woodruff is the co-owner of Busy Beaver Arts and Crafts and a glass art educator. Megan Zane is a freelance artist and illustrator living in Kettering. She received her degree from the Columbus College of Art and Design. 19

FEES Full payment for classes must be made at the time of registration. Resident fees are for those participants who either live or work within the Kettering city limits. Program fees for non-Kettering residents will be an additional 25 percent or $5, whichever is greater (not to exceed $10). Fees will be refunded if a class is full.

PAYMENT METHODS The City will accept cash, personal checks, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover) and money orders for the payment of fees. Please note which of these forms of payment is acceptable for the method of registration you choose. The City cannot accept any debit cards for payment. The City will charge a $25 service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank. Checks should be made payable to: City of Kettering.

For Mail-in, Drop-off and Fax Registrations Once we have processed your registration, we will email you a confirmation showing which classes you are enrolled. If we do not have an email on file we will mail. If we were unable to place you in a class, the fee for that class will be placed in your family’s household account as an account credit, and this, too, will be noted on your confirmation. LATE REGISTRATION Late registrations will be accepted prior to the second class meeting. After the second class meeting, no registrations will be accepted. Individuals registering late will be required to pay the total class fee.

REFUND POLICY — OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU We strive for positive experiences and excellence in everything we do. All refunds will be made according to the following guidelines. If you have attended one of our classes or purchased a pass and are dissatisfied, call us. We will offer a prorated refund. If you were unable to attend a set of classes, we will try to transfer you to another section. Otherwise, we will offer a 50% household credit of the class price. Special consideration will be given for life altering situations. Refund requests must be made within 30 days of a registered program’s end date (effective January 1, 2016). Refunds will be issued by City check, refunded to the credit card used during the original transaction, or issued via a household credit. Your household credit balance will be noted on your receipt. This credit can be: used for future enrollments or pass registrations or refunded via City check upon request. Refunds issued via City check will follow the Finance Department’s bill-paying schedule and be issued by City check. There will be no cash refunds. This policy does not apply to facility rentals.
