OPEN STUDIOS Ready to bring your work to the next level? Take advantage of affordable and professionally equipped spaces. Call (937) 296-0294 for available hours and required orientations or prerequisites. VISITOR POLICY: All participants and observers must pay open studio fees to stay longer than 30 minutes. Children under 5 years old are not permitted in open studio. Those under 16 must be supervised by an adult 21 years of age or older (no more than two children per adult). All studio patrons, including currently enrolled students, must sign in and pay fees at the Rosewood office. All open studio work-in-progress may not be left more than 30 minutes unattended. STUDENT POLICY: Adult students currently enrolled in studio classes will receive a student pass card for four sessions of studio time. Students staying over 30 minutes after the end of class must sign in and use this pass card. Unclaimed pieces left after 30 days will be discarded or considered a donation to Rosewood. OPEN STUDIO FEES: Ceramics – Sculpture – Painting – Dance Drop-in fee per visit: $4/resident; $8/non-resident Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $30/resident; $60/non-resident Darkroom – Glass Drop-in fee per visit: $5/resident; $10/non-resident Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $35/resident; $70/non-resident Free First Fridays: Open studio fees are waived for all Kettering residents. Supplies are not included in open studio fees. LOCKER RENTAL: Lockers are available for rental on a pre-pay six-month or yearly basis. Six-month: $20/resident; $25/non-resident; Yearly: $35/resident; $45 non-resident. CERAMIC STUDIO: Clay fee of $20 includes 25 pounds of clay and related firing and glazes. Only clay purchased at Rosewood may be used in our studios and firings. Clay purchased at Rosewood may not be removed from the facility for work at home. You must supply your own tools. The studio is designed as a community facility and, as such, is not equipped to accommodate production pottery quantities. All open studio and private studio users are limited to three (3) cubic feet per week of kiln use. Attendance at a free ceramic studio orientation is required of all first-time participants.
Artist studios are available at Rosewood Arts Centre for artists with an active practice and a commitment to sharing their work with the Kettering community. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed as studio spaces become available. Studio spaces are $85/month for Kettering residents and $130/month for non-residents. DARKROOM: Participants must be at least 16 years old, demonstrate previous experience in black and white darkroom processes, and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Check at the Rosewood office for more information on eligibility or for the orientation schedule and to make an appointment. GLASS STUDIO: The glass studio is available to students who wish to finish class work, have attended a class previously or have prior experience in cold or warm glass. Participants must be at least 16 years old and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Fees for kiln or torch usage are $5 respectively for up to 3 hours. 1

The City of Kettering established a permanent art collection to commemorate the renovation of the Government Center at 3600 Shroyer Road. Featuring several of the most accomplished visual artists of Kettering and the Miami Valley, the collection represents the natural world, from Kettering’s own Hills and Dales Metropark to the nearby Clifton Gorge. This collection of over eighty works includes black and white photographs, colorful oil paintings and multi-layered ink prints. Located throughout the offices of 3600 Shroyer, the Regional Art Collection is accessible to the public by special appointment and scheduled tours. Tours must be booked at least one week in advance by calling Rosewood Arts Centre at (937) 296-0294 or emailing rosewood@ketteringoh.org. Plan a fun play date with your favorite kiddo and explore the art of mosaic! In this family-friendly class, adults and kids will collaborate to create a colorful 10 inch x 10 inch mosaic on a wooden wall panel from glass, mirrors, beads, glass globs and much more! All materials are pre-cut and each adult/child team is provided with mosaic tools to fine tune tesserae. The Japanese knot tie bag is a great spin-off of the traditional tote we all love. The clever construction is such a new simple method that it may blow your mind. Another wonderful thing about making this bag is it’s eco friendly as there is very little waste. Skills required: Students must simply know how to thread a machine and sew a seam allowance— that is it, it’s really easy! Supplies needed: 1/2 yard of cotton fabric and 1/2 yard of cotton contrast fabric (a matching fabric for the inside), thread and a small sewing kit. Shannon has been Kettering Children’s T h e a t r e ’s ( K C T ) Director since 2000, and started with the program in the late 1990s as the S t a g e M a n a g e r. With an Associate’s degree from Sinclair Community College in Theatre Production, Shannon brings a wealth of experience to KC T. She’s also done shows around the Dayton region at The Human Race Theater Company, Dayton Theatre Guild and Beavercreek Community Theatre. During the fall and winter, you will find Shannon heading up our amazing KCT productions – the group is made up of kids ages 9 – 14 and puts on two plays per year. In the summer, Shannon teaches our popular theatre summer camps for ages 7 – 14.

Explore the history and aesthetics of Raku, a traditional Japanese firing style. Students are provided with enough clay to make their own forms during the first class meeting. Get unique and beautiful glaze results using our reduction kiln and cone 10 specific glazes. Patrons may use up to 3 cubic feet of space per firing included in the cost of class or open studio use. Cost of additional space needed in a single firing is $20 per cubic ft. Firings are scheduled when enough work is generated to fill the kiln (generally once a month). Celebrating their 55th year, the Kettering Civic Band has performed throughout the region and Canada as well as in sister cities, Steyr, Austria and Kettering, England. The band rehearses each Monday evening at the Kettering Middle School throughout the year. Summer performance schedules include community concerts and large public festivals. The program is for adults and young people who have a minimum amount of high school musical training. The organization is an excellent source for those who wish to gain concert band experience. SPRING 2017 INSTRUCTORS Jesy Anderson is the owner of Needle, Ink and Thread, located in Beavercreek. A sewing teacher and alterations specialist, she loves being creative and seeing her students succeed and build confidence with each project. Dale Archer co-owns Gemini Dance Studio and has spent several decades teaching dance for all ages and levels. Cynthia Bornhorst-Winslow is a ceramics artist who is new to the Rosewood faculty as of Spring 2017. She also serves as a faculty member and ceramics production assistant at Sinclair Community College. Nancy Boss is a multitalented and longtime instructor who teaches a variety of youth and adult dance classes. She has been teaching various dance styles for decades and began at Rosewood Arts Centre in 1985. She studied dance with Jorg Fasting from the Columbus Ballet Company and at Ballet Arts in New York City. Jason Boyer has been working in glass for over 15 years. He exhibits his work regularly in juried art festivals, including Art on the Commons in Kettering. David Brand and Sandra Picciano-Brand are a husband/wife team of Dayton-based jewelry artists. They exhibit at national-level juried art shows and have won numerous first place and best-of-show awards for their jewelry and sculpture. Jane Brennan holds a B.A. in Art Education from the University of Dayton. She has taught in a variety of settings and has experience in many art media. Teresa Connair is a professional actress with credits in stage, television, movies and voice-overs. Since earning her B.F.A. in Acting from Wright State University, she has acted in and directed over 150 productions. She is the founder and director of her own theatre company, Undercroft Players, in Dayton Ohio. Teresa also teaches acting at the Oakwood Community Center. Mickie Cowan is a Dayton-based glass and jewelry artist. She attended the University of Dayton and currently teaches Rosewood’s Glass Bead Making classes. Andy Dailey earned a B.F.A. from Wright State University and an M.F.A. from Miami University. He is the Cultural Arts Program Supervisor at Rosewood Arts Centre. Greg Dearth graduated from Ohio University with a B.F.A. He is a member of the Portrait Society of America and has been a guest lecturer and instructor at the Columbus College of Art and Design and Atlanta’s Portfolio Center. His work has been included in many of the juried Society of Illustrators’ annual shows, Communication Arts, American Illustration and Print magazines. Allison M. Dickson has authored novels The Last Supper and Strings, as well as several dozen short stories. Her short stories have been published both independently and in magazines and anthologies, including Apex. Sammie Sue Edmondson has taught both youth and adult dance classes for the City of Kettering for over 30 years. She studied dance with the New York City Ballet, at Sinclair Community College and with renowned dance instructor, Jorg Fasting, of the Columbus Ballet. Shannon Fent has been Kettering Children’s Theatre’s director since 2007. She has an Associate’s degree from Sinclair Community College in Theatre Production. Nicole Fiely is an artist and educator who teaches a variety of Rosewood’s youth and adult classes and camps, including Printmaking and Screen Printing. She studied Fine Arts at Wright State University. Peter Frederick is a watercolor painter who illuminates the landscapes of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Kentucky. Peter is a self-taught watercolorist with a background in graphic and landscape design. While known for distinctive sceneries, this Dayton artist has also ventured into abstraction with his painting series Abstract Contours. Sharon Govender has lived and worked in South Africa, earning a degree from the University of Durban, Westville. She studied painting, photography, Indian Art and African Art in addition to other art-related courses. Trish Jeffers-Zeh is an award-winning artist, teacher and public speaker. Certified in PMC, Senior/ACW, she is dedicated to the advancement of metal clay arts. She also offers certification and mentoring of metal clay instructors. Her work has been shown internationally, sold in galleries, displayed in art museums, and she is a published author of instructional articles for magazines and other publications. Trish teaches nationally as well as through Rosewood Art Centre. Tom Kinarney is a former professional artist who has done freelance illustration for numerous companies, locally and nationally. He taught art at the former Riverbend Art Center and currently teaches with both the Fairborn Art Association and Rosewood Arts Centre. H. David Kirchner has a degree in art from Cedarville College. He also studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. David operates Vessels in downtown Dayton. He has worked in clay since 1984.

Jess Kucinski leads the Art with Buddies program at Rosewood, which is designed especially for young children on the Autism Spectrum. Kucinski attended Wright State University and also teaches at We Care Arts, a Kettering organization that specializes in teaching clients with emotional and developmental disabilities. Donna Kuszpa studied wirewrapping with John Kleber in Columbus. Starting in 1993, she taught wirewrapping at Riverbend Art Centre and currently teaches all the Wirewrapping for Jewelry courses at Rosewood. April Lemaster has been studying ceramics for over a decade. She has attended numerous workshops and conferences for ceramic techniques around the country. She has exhibited her ceramic work and received awards in the greater Dayton region. Elizabeth Martin is a longtime fiber arts enthusiast. Introduced to knitting by her mother when she was seven years old, she has been exploring the craft ever since. For the past few years, she has studied the traditional knitting styles and techniques used by different cultures around the world. Her skills include the cleaning, processing, and spinning of raw wool into finished yarn, which she uses in her own projects. Recently, she has begun exploring the art of needle felting. Tracy McElfresh, aka Tracysews, is based in Kettering, Ohio. She loves custom sewing work, and dresses are her favorite. She is also a fit specialist, freelance writer, blogger and garment construction expert and a sewing instructor since 2004. Tracy also has a background in early education and has been working with children for over eight years. She is one of the former co-owners of Sew Dayton. Jes McMillan is a mosaic artist and founder of the Mosaic Institute of Greater Dayton. She has been creating artwork for over 16 years. Jared Parker teaches Rosewood’s Photoshop classes. He currently serves as the Digital Design Tech Prep program instructor for Kettering City Schools. Steven Powers teaches youth clay classes, including the popular Exploring Pottery Skills, but is always willing to pitch in and help with summer camps too. A graduate of Sinclair Community College, he creates beautiful, functional ceramic pieces and also studied painting, drawing, sculpture and woodworking while at Sinclair. Loretta Puncer founded Gallery 510 Fine Art in 2007 as an initiative to culturally revive Dayton’s Historic Oregon District by creating a channel for local and regional artists, including herself, to display their work. Puncer’s paintings attract private collectors and patrons both locally and from across the country. In addition to managing the gallery and creating artwork of her own, she shares her passion for art through teaching a variety of classes and workshops, both at Gallery 510 Fine Art and Rosewood Arts Centre. She received her B.F.A. from the University of Dayton. Mary Sanders is a member of the Kettering Arts Council. She teaches several adult classes at Rosewood, including the scrap booking programs and Beer Glass Etching. Kate Santucci is a visual artist working in several media. A new addition to the Rosewood faculty in Spring 2017, she is taking over teaching Art Birthday Parties, the Paint & Wine program, Art Start Preschool Story Time and an upcoming summer workshop for adults. Amanda Schommer has a M.A. in Spanish Literature and Linguistics from Miami University. She has spent the past decade teaching Spanish to a wide variety students ranging from preschoolers to senior citizens and tutoring middle and high school age students. Barb Stork is a Dayton-based artist working in a variety of media. She serves on the faculty at Sinclair Community College. Sara Torgison received a B.A. in Studio Art with an emphasis in ceramics from Humboldt State University in 2010. She has worked as a studio potter and ceramics technician while developing her craft and creating strong ties with the visual arts community in the Miami Valley. Sara is currently the Ceramic Facilities Coordinator at Rosewood Arts Centre and Resident Artist at John Bryan Community Pottery in Yellow Springs. Leonard Williams is best known for his vibrant watercolor scenes. His paintings have been recognized in numerous juried shows, both locally and nationally, featured in private and corporate collections across the country. His work can be seen in “The New Creative Artist” by well-known artist/author Nita Leland, and he is a featured artist in her book, Confident Color. In addition, his drawings appear in a series of learning and activity books for children in grades one through five produced by Children’s Historical Publishing. Sharon Williams began working with clay in college and has been involved with ceramics at Rosewood Arts Centre since 1992. Her experience includes classes with potters from Yellow Springs and the Greater Cincinnati Area. At Rosewood, Sharon has instructed preschoolers through adults in clay and arts. She has exhibited and sold pottery in the Tri-State Area. Beth Wright is a dancer, choreographer and educator of dance. She has been sharing her art form since she was a teenager and spent years as a member of Rhythm in Shoes, as well as a resident artist for Muse Machine. Kathy Woodruff is the co-owner of Busy Beaver Arts and Crafts and a glass art educator. 19

The City will accept cash, personal checks, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover) and money orders for the payment of fees. Please note which of these forms of payment is acceptable for the method of registration you choose. The City can only accept debit cards that can be processed as credit cards (non-pin). The City will charge a $25 service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank. Checks should be made payable to: City of Kettering.
• Refund requests must be made within 30 days of a registered program’s end date (effective January 1, 2016). Refunds will be issued via the following method: If the original transaction was paid for using cash, check or household credit, the refund will be issued via City check. If the original transaction was paid for using credit or debit card, the refund will be issued back to the card used for payment. Refunds issued via City check will follow the Finance Department’s bill-paying schedule.

For Mail-in, Drop-off and Fax Registrations Once we have processed your registration, we will email you a confirmation showing in which classes you are enrolled. If we do not have an email for you on file we will mail your confirmation. If we were unable to place you in a class, your payment will be returned to you.
LATE REGISTRATION
Late registrations will be accepted prior to the second class meeting. After the second class meeting, no registrations will be accepted. Individuals registering late will be required to pay the total class fee.

NOTICE TO PARTICIPANTS Participants must recognize that all classes/activities of a physical nature involve some risk and by registering for a class/activity of this nature, there is an assumption of risk by the participant. The City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is dedicated to providing safe facilities and equipment for all participants, as well as qualified staff. Every effort is made to ensure the safety of the participants and to provide them with first-class recreational activities, facilities and parks. In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of the City of Kettering to: • Contact the Kettering Fire Department Paramedics to perform first aid and, when necessary, recommend transport of the victim to a hospital; and
• If you have attended one of our classes or purchased a pass and are dissatisfied, call us. We will offer a prorated refund.
• Reach the parent or guardian as soon as the situation allows.
• If you were unable to attend a set of classes, we will try to transfer you to another section. Otherwise, we will offer a 50% refund of the class price.
