CENTRE

Rosewood Arts Centre is a unique creative community program and facility located in Kettering, Ohio. A division of the City of Kettering’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts, Rosewood presents opportunities for the public to experience the visual and performing arts. Over 350 classes are offered annually for youth and adults as well as gallery exhibitions, theater performances, drop-in facilities, artist studios, and special events. SIGNING INTERPRETER AVAILABLE The City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is pleased to offer a signing interpreter for hearingimpaired patrons who want to take a class at Rosewood Arts Centre or the Kettering Recreation Complex. Please give us three weeks’ notice to schedule the interpreter and call 296-0294.

MEETING SPACE AND ROOM RENTAL Rosewood Arts Centre provides facility rentals for various events, meetings and programs. For more information, please call 296-0294.

CLASS CANCELLATION Rosewood Arts Centre reserves the right to cancel any class and to substitute faculty when necessary. Classes will be canceled three working days prior to the starting date when there is insufficient enrollment.

ARTIST STUDIOS Artist studios are available at Rosewood Arts Centre and applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed as studio spaces become available. Spaces are available for artists with an active practice and a commitment to sharing their work with the Kettering community. Studio spaces are $85/ month for Kettering residents and $130/ month for nonresidents. For more information, please contact Rosewood at 296-0294. Artist shown: Melanie Rohman

OPEN STUDIOS Open studio sessions allow artists the opportunity to work on their own in an equipped creative environment. The studios are available when classes are not in session. Call 296-0294 to learn available hours and any necessary orientation or pre-requisites. VISITOR POLICY: All participants and observers must pay open studio fees to stay longer than 15 minutes. Children under 5 years old are not permitted in open studio. Those under 16 must be supervised by an adult 21 years of age or older (no more than two children per adult). All studio patrons, including currently enrolled students, must sign in and pay fees at the Rosewood office. All open studio work-in-progress may not be left more than 30 minutes unattended. STUDENT POLICY: Adult students currently enrolled in studio classes will receive a student pass card for four sessions of studio time. Students staying over 30 minutes after the end of class must sign in and use this pass card. OPEN STUDIO FEES: Pottery – Sculpture – Painting – Enameling – Glass – Dance Drop-in fee per visit: $4/resident; $8/non-resident; Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $30/resident; $60/non-resident. Supplies are not included in open studio fees. LOCKER RENTAL: Lockers are available for rental on a pre-pay six-month or yearly basis. Six-month: $20/resident; $25/nonresident; Yearly: $35/resident; $45/non-resident. POTTERY STUDIO: Clay fee of $19 includes 25 pounds of clay and related firing and glazes. Only clay purchased at Rosewood may be used in our studios and firings. Clay purchased at Rosewood may not be removed from the facility for work at home. You must supply your own tools. The studio is designed as a community facility and, as such, is not equipped to accommodate production pottery quantities. All open studio and private studio users are limited to three (3) cubic feet per week of kiln use. Unclaimed pieces left after 30 days will be discarded. Attendance at a free pottery studio orientation is required of all first-time participants. DARKROOM: Participants must be at least 16 years old, demonstrate previous experience in black and white darkroom processes, and attend a Rosewood orientation session. Check at the Rosewood office for more information on eligibility or for the orientation schedule and to make an appointment. Darkroom fee per visit: $5/resident; $10/non-resident; Open Studio Pass (10 visits): $35/resident; $70/non-resident. Reminder: Open Studio Passes must be processed by the individual holder. Open Studio Passes are for individual use only and not to be shared among friends or family.

CULTURAL ARTS ADVISORY COUNCILS KETTERING ARTS COUNCIL The Kettering Arts Council, in partnership and collaboration with the community, strives to provide access to the arts for all ages, encourage a passion for the arts and promote art appreciation and education. Established in 1967, the Kettering Arts Council is a 15 member citizen advisory committee overseen by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts department. The committee includes individuals with a strong desire to promote and advocate fine arts experiences in our region. The Arts Council meets once per month at Rosewood Arts Centre to discuss issues pertaining to the Rosewood Arts Centre’s current and future programming. CitySites is a percent for art program recognizing artistic excellence, accessibility to the arts for all people, and the positive impact creativity has on our community and quality of life in the City of Kettering. Established in 1999 through the Kettering City Council, CitySites empowers a citizen advisory committee, the Art in Public Places Committee, to develop and oversee public art programming in Kettering. This year’s commissions include artwork by renowned artists Hamilton Dixon (sculpture), Jean Koeller (painting) and Katherine Kadish (painting). Art in Public Places Committee members:

Comic Book Studio Day

Comic Book Studio Day is back! Rosewood Arts Centre is partnering with the Gem City Comic Con to present the second annual Comic Book Studio Day. This series of 90-minute workshops, led by professional illustrators and writers will teach you the basics of comic book creation. The day will include workshops for adults and workshops designed just for kids. A group of comic artists will demo their artwork from noon to 1 p.m. We will end the day with a speaker who will give a presentation about comic books. 2014 Guest instructors: Nate Lovett, Graig Boldman and TBA. Basic Theatre Instruction Age(s) 9 – 15 This class provides instruction in the basic theatre skills of pantomime, movement, voice and diction, improvisation, script work, audition techniques and performing a monologue. The Kettering Children’s Choir

Age(s) 8 – 16 Have fun while learning the basics of puppetry. Kids will also learn about the history of puppets, stage puppetry, puppet voices and songs, skit formation and puppet building.

The Kettering Children’s Choir was founded in 1986 and now includes over 200 singers from the Greater Dayton region, ages 8 through 18. The Chorus, and Concert Choir sing music of all periods and types, from Renaissance to contemporary, and rehearse weekly at Rosewood Arts Centre. Kettering Children’s Theatre Age(s) 10 – 15 The Kettering Children’s Theatre Production is a youth theatre program for elementary through junior high students. The theatre program produces two plays per year. Prerequisites to this production are the Basic Theatre Instruction and/ or Advanced Theatre Instruction classes at Rosewood Arts Centre or by permission of the instructor. If you have previous theatre experience but have not taken either class at Rosewood you may perform a monologue at auditions. The monologue must be memorized. Monologues will be available in the Rosewood Arts Centre front office. All potential participants are encouraged to take at least one acting class or a summer camp. Auditions will be held Saturday, January 4 at 11 a.m. Students are required to make a commitment to three rehearsal sessions per week. Parent participation is welcomed. Registration deadline for the winter production is December 21, 2013. YOUTH/TEEN DANCE DANCE APPAREL Dance classes, such as Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Modern are conducted in the Rosewood Arts Centre dance studio. Street shoes are not allowed on the dance studio floor. Slippers or socks with treads are safer than socks. Tap shoes or hardsoled shoes are required for tap. Leotards and tights are optional. Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move easily. Leather-soled shoes are best for Ballroom dance classes held at the Charles I. Lathrem Senior Center.

DANCE APPAREL Dance classes, such as Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Modern are conducted in the Rosewood Arts Centre dance studio. Street shoes are not allowed on the dance studio floor. Slippers or socks with treads are safer than socks. Tap shoes or hardsoled shoes are required for tap. Leotards and tights are optional. Wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move easily. Leather-soled shoes are best for Ballroom dance classes held at the Charles I. Lathrem Senior Center.

Creative Writing for Publication I Age(s) 16 + This course focuses on learning and developing the elements of good writing that are required for publication. The course explains the writing process in detail that must be employed when creating fiction or non-fiction for a book or a short story. The end result of this course is a well written query. Writing Non-Fiction Articles Age(s) 16 + This six-week course explains the process for creating, writing, editing and selling non-fiction short stories, articles, series and columns in various subject matters, such as: business, travel, entertainment, education, human interests, etc. The course examines the proper elements of a well-written piece that is both informative and entertaining. This course focuses specifically on the magazine, newspaper and periodical industry; not intended for those writing a full-length, non-fiction book, but many of the details will apply. FEES Full payment for classes must be made at the time of registration. Resident fees are for those participants who either live or work within the Kettering city limits. Program fees for non-Kettering residents will be an additional 25 percent or $5, whichever is greater (not to exceed $10). Fees will be refunded if a class is full.

PAYMENT METHODS The City will accept cash, personal checks, credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover) and money orders for the payment of fees. Please note which of these forms of payment is acceptable for the method of registration you choose. The City cannot accept any debit cards for payment. The City will charge a $25 service fee for all checks not honored for any reason by the bank. Checks should be made payable to: City of Kettering.

CONFIRMATION Once we have processed your registration, we will mail you a confirmation showing which classes you are enrolled. If we were unable to place you in a class, the fee for that class will be placed in your family’s household account as an account credit, and this, too, will be noted on your confirmation. You may: • use the credit for future courses; or • request a full refund. All refunds will be paid by City check; please allow two weeks for processing.

If you have attended one of our classes or purchased a pass and are dissatisfied, call us. We will offer a prorated refund. If you were unable to attend a set of classes, we will try to transfer you to another section. Otherwise, we will offer a 50% household credit of the class price. Special consideration will be given for life altering situations. All refunds will follow the Finance Department’s bill-paying schedule and be issued by City check. Non-residents may register beginning Monday, December 9, at 8 a.m. The City of Kettering encourages patrons to login to the system (www.ketteringoh.org) prior to Monday, December 2, to verify household information (address, residency status, family members). Your residency classification is based on your status as of your last enrollment or pass registration. To modify your information, please contact the registration staff at the Kettering Recreation Complex (296-2587), Rosewood Arts Centre (296-0294) or Lathrem Senior Center (296-2480).
