There is great potential for improving Goa`s rankings in terms of domestic tourists and an infrastructure for footballing community can play a major role in this push
Share of top 11 states by international tourist visits (tourism.gov.in –Tourism Statistics, 2019)
- India is a sleeping giant in footballing world, with a poor reputation at international stage mainly due to lack of infrastructure
- - Stakeholders of football understand that India needs to invest more and build infrastructure all across the country to facilitate young footballers.
- The fact is , the number of football-centric stadiums in the country are far too less to promote or nurture Indian football
FEATURES FOR RELEVANCE IN THE STATE OF GOA
● It is a state of toddy tappers, bakers and farmers
● Once the fields were harvested – everyone formed a team, the churches, the temples, the clubs and the inter-village tournaments sang a stirring, soulful backdrop to everyday life.
● Now-a-days, young boys are immersed in phones and slouching over two-wheelers instead of running about on open fields
Goa has had an insane amount of footballing culture Goa on the verge of becoming a football hub

ENQUIRY
- Although Indian Football is about to rise from its ashes, Lack of quality football stadiums is a problem for India, considering the benefits of the sport for the country, both economically and politically. As we know Indian footballers do not get the opportunity at national level because of lack of political support and facilities.
- Football as a sport, despite of having immense potential, has been a neglected area of study in our country. Study and research related sports architecture, football stadiums, infrastructure and the like can help highlight the issues and problems coming in the way of the development of such an infrastructure and various inputs in this field are necessary to reach a solution of the above said problem.
- Hence, it seems an extreme necessity to conduct one of such studies in order to throw some light on the area of sports, particularly football, and to find out what role can architecture play in spreading awareness and promoting a game which can be greatly beneficial for the country.
Objectives :
1. To design a green multipurpose stadium/training ground implementing piezoelectric and solar tech 2. To promote domestic/ foreign tourist attraction
Factors to consider :
The location should have/ be in close proximity to transit nodes (air, rail, road)
The location should be in close proximity to dense vegetative growth and/ or water body
The location should exhibit trends of high tourist footfall as per Tourism footfall in Goa 2020 statistics
The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium a multipurpose sports arena hosting football and other sporting events, as well as large-scale entertainment events was constructed by the Government of India
The all-seater facility seats 60,254 spectators, and up to 100,000 for concerts. In terms of sealing capacity, it is the fourth largest multipurpose stadium in India and the 51 st largest in the world.
The Roof:
Area - 45,000 3g m
Roof depth - 70 m
Length - 350 m
Width - 290 m
Height - 45 m
Compression ring - A steel compression ring that weighs more than 8,500 tonnes and extends 71 m into the stands, supports the tensile roof's cable net system.
Tensile membrane - The gaps between the cable net system is filled with PIFE sheer fill panels without any perpendicular support from inside the stadium
The cable net system features 443 tonnes of pre stretched cables with a length of 2,220 km in varying diameters from 40mm to 95mm.
Outer Structure - The two outer basket-like supporting colonnade structures carrying not only the compression rings but also the complete ramp system for access and evacuation.
The location should fall under any of the relevant clusters or circuits (nature/ coastal/ wellness) recognized as per the Goa Tourism Vision Group
The Allianz Arena, opened in 2005, was designed purely as a football stadium. With its unusual external and chameleonic appearance, its façade can change colors according team there, red, blue or white
The Allianz Arena has seven different levels, which divide players, press, VIP, staff, security and the general public. The intention of the architects was to make a stadium as architecture work and not exclusively of engineering
Roof
The roof uses an intricate system of steel beams and pillars of different sizes. The pieces need to be hoisted at 50 meters by a super crane. The larger trusses are 65 meters and weigh 100 tons. The master beams are arranged like the braces of a bicycle wheel, forming a strong and light structure
Steel grid
The steel grid that extends from the roof to facade is one of the great attractions of the project. It is a composite of diamond-shaped cushioned shells attached to a metal grid
Lighting
One of the architects' main wishes was that the roof membrane was illuminated. A computerized electrical system is able to turn on and off the lights of each panel individually. There are 25,000 fluorescent lamps that make the Allianz Arena a bright spectacle on Munich nights
Proximity/ presence of vegetative growth and/ or water body
Objective:
- Presence of basic amenities and CISF base - Proximity to Airport and express way - Absence of significant vegetation on site
Understanding programmatic requirements and scale in existing projects
Criteria for selection of case study :
The selected cases shall be evaluated to document the following parameters :
Location and scale of project similar to site
Services/ wellness facilities provided by project
Area program of functional zones implemented in project
Sustainable aspects utilized by project (Refer dissertation)
Impact of project on health and well-being of users
The approach adopted here is that of learning from examples. Neglect of football infrastructure in the country has been identified as a problem and the solution has been derived at through constant research and improvements in the design.
The study has been carried out using both primary and secondary methods of research.
Primary method majorly includes discussions with the development authority which has proposed the site for the stadium, case studies, site analysis and studying roof structure designs by creating models similar to their forms.
The secondary method consists of data collection by reading books, studying similar theses and collecting information and imagery from the internet.
FIFA provides a stadium construction manual which has been of a great help in the study and the design.
Experiments with the form of the stadium, its structure and the latest technology used have been researched on.
In this study, site planning has been given the utmost importance. The master planning of the site includes the study of orientation of the stadium, the circulation pattern of all the visitors, thorough study of functions and building services. Traffic management and the site's relationship with the surroundings have also been looked into.
Designing the complex consists of following up with the activities in a stadium complex from case studies, looking as their landscaping, transportation and parking pattern in order to avoid any wastage of space.

AREA FOR FUTURE EXPANSION
THE LARGE WATER BODY NEARBY WILL EXPERIENCE HIGH LEVELS OF EVAPORATION , WHICH WILL ALSO INCREASE THE MOISTURE CONTENT IN THE AIR THE ASSOCIATED UPTAKE OF LATENT HEAT PROVIDES AND ADDITIONAL DAYTIME COOLING EFFECT.
THE WATER BODIES OPERATE AS THE COOLING SOURCE ON THE MICROCLIMATE OF THE SURROUNDING AREA. THE AIR IS FILTERED BY THE TREES LINING SITE BOUNDARIES .
SCALE 1:1500
AFTER 36.00 MTS. HEIGHT THE SIDE/REAR SETBACKS SHALL BE INCREASED BY 1.00 MTR., FOR EVERY 4.00 MTS. ADDITIONAL HEIGHT, PROVIDED FURTHER THAT THE MAXIMUM SETBACK WHICH CAN BE INSISTED BY THE AUTHORITIES SHALL BE ATLEAST 15.00 MTS., IRRESPECTIVE OF THE HEIGHT OF THE BUILDING.
VEGETATION FROM MIDDLE AREAS OF THE SITE CAN BE TRANSPLANTED INTO OTHER AREAS , DIFFERENT TREE SPECIES CAN BE USED FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES LIKE AS SHADING DEVICES , OR TO FORM A WIND BARRIER NEAR THE EDGES OF THE SITE.
COIR LOGS ARE ANOTHER RIVERBANK EROSION REPAIR METHOD MADE USING COCONUT FIBER. COIR LOGS ARE LARGE IN DIAMETER, WHICH MAKES THEM IDEAL FOR SUPPORTING BANKS OR BEING USED FOR EROSION CONTROL ON HILLS, SHORELINES, AND OTHER AREAS PRONE TO EROSION
WHEN SELECTING NATURAL VEGETATION TO CONTROL BANK EROSION, YOU CAN ALSO OPT FOR PLANTS KNOWN FOR THEIR EXPANSIVE ROOT SYSTEMS AND ABILITY TO GROW NEAR WATER
• NO OBSTRUCTIONS FROM NEARBY BUILDINGS
• RESIDENTIAL AREAS SITUATED AT A MODERATE DISTANCE
SITE SECTION & SLOPE
ANOTHER
INFERENCE:
• WESTERN FAÇADE MUST HAVE LESSER OPENINGS AND LONG SHADING DEVICES TO PREVENT HARSH SUNLIGHT DURING DAYTIME.
• WESTERN PART OF THE SITE CAN BE USED FOR RECREATIONAL PURPOSE SINCE IT RECEIVES SHADE
• LONGER SIDE OF BUILDING SHOULD BE ORIENTED N-S DIRECTION.
• BUFFER SPACES TO BE PROVIDED IN SOUTH-WESTERN PART (wind path).
• SENSE OF BOUNDARY TO BE PROVIDED TO AVOID TRESPASSERS.
• UNWANTED VIEWS CAN BE COVERED BY LANDSCAPING
• ALL THE SPACES SHOULD HAVE GOOD VIEW SO THE BUILDINGS MUST BE SPACED OUT WITH ENVELOPES
ALLUVIAL + LATERITE
THE SOIL NEAR SEASIDE GETS ERODED VERY EASILY DUE TO EXCESS WATER FLOW STRIPPING AWAY LAYERS OF SOIL .
3 MAIN METHODS TO DEAL WITH SOIL EROSION IN THIS CASE ARECOIR LOGS ARE ANOTHER RIVERBANK EROSION REPAIR METHOD MADE USING COCONUT FIBER. COIR LOGS ARE LARGE IN DIAMETER, WHICH MAKES THEM IDEAL FOR SUPPORTING BANKS OR BEING USED FOR EROSION CONTROL ON HILLS, SHORELINES, AND OTHER AREAS PRONE TO EROSION
ANOTHER COMMON OPTION FOR EROSION CONTROL IS A SOIL EROSION MAT. WHILE THESE MATS ARE SOMETIMES MADE WITH WOOD FIBER OR STRAW, ONE OF THE TOP MATERIALS USED IS COIR COCONUT FIBER. THIS IS BECAUSE COIR IS STRONG YET NATURAL. PLUS, UNLIKE STRAW OR WOOD, COIR CAN LAST IN THE WATER ANYWHERE FROM TWO TO FIVE YEAR
WHEN SELECTING NATURAL VEGETATION TO CONTROL BANK EROSION, YOU CAN ALSO OPT FOR PLANTS KNOWN FOR THEIR EXPANSIVE ROOT SYSTEMS AND ABILITY TO GROW NEAR WATER
DIFFERENT TREE SPECIES CAN BE USED FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES LIKE AS SHADING DEVICES , OR TO FORM A WIND BARRIER NEAR THE EDGES OF THE SITE.
• A SIMILAR PATTERN CAN BE FOLLOWED TO ENSURE PROPER VENTILATION
• ENSURES VIEWS TO ALL SIDES • MICROCLIMATE CAN BE MAINTAINED
•USE OF OVERHANG , SIDE FIN AND SMALL OPENINGS TOWARDS THE WESTERN SIDE OF THE SITE TO PREVENT HARSH SUNLIGHT
•RAFT OR MAT FOUNDATION CAN BE PROPOSED DUE TO THE SEASHORE
•STORMWATER MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO BE INCORPORATED DUE TO RAINFALL
•CATCHMENT AREA TO BE PROVIDED WHICH HELPS IN RESOLVING WATER PROBLEMS
•ALL THE TREES CAN BE EITHER RETAINED OR TRANSPLANTED DEPENDING ON THEIR LOCATION AND USE
•DUE TO HIGH SALINITY IN THE AIR, STAINLESS STEEL SHOULD BE USED AND ALSO PROPER MAINTENANCE OF THE MATERIALS SHOULD BE DONE TO PREVENT EROSION OF THE MATERIALS
• STRATEGIC LOCATION FOR COMMERCIAL USE
• SITUATED CLOSE TO THE CITY AND AT A CLOSE PROXIMITY TO ALL SERVICES
• FLAT LAND
• ACCESSIBLE FROM HIGHWAY
• ELECTRICITY POLES NEAR THE SITE SO ELECTRIC SUPPLY WONT BE AN ISSUE
• HAS STORM WATER DRAIN
• ACCESS ROADS ARE SMALL NO GOOD WATER SUPPLY
• FOUL SMELL IS A THREAT
• TRAFFIC MIGHT CREATES JAMMING OF ROADS
• NOISE FROM THE ROADS
• NO GOOD VIEWS FROM ALL PARRTS OF THE SITE
• IT IS MIX OF TRADITIONAL AS WELL AS MODERN CULTURE THAT ATTRACTS MANY PEOPLE TOWARDS THE AREA
• SEA PORT AREA SO MANY JOB OPPURTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE
• DEVELOPING AREA SO FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF AREA
• SCOPE OF HOUSING FOR MIGRANT WOKERS
• LOCATED NEAR THE SEA SO THE SOIL MIGHT BE LOOSE
• THREAT OF SALINE UNDERGROUND WATER
• CHANCES OF FLOODING IF PROPER DRAINAGE SYSTEM IS NOT PROVIDED
• THE EXTERIOR OF THE BUILDING SHOULD BE WEATHER RESISTANT TO THE MICROCLIMATIC CONDITIONS TO PREVENT CORRODING OF THE MATERIALS
GENERAL AIM IS TO CREATE A PARADIGM IN DESIGN WHERE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ELEMENTS IS USED TO MANIPULATE AND INFORM THE DESIGN OF COMPLEX GEOMETRIES AND STRUCTURES
DESIGN SOLUTIONS
• SHIELDING WALL
• ROUGHER TERRAINS
• ACCOUSTIC MATERIALS IN SEATING AREAS (LIMESTONE)
• ALIGNMENT WITH SLOPE AND WIND • FABRIC ENCLOSURE
• USING VEGETATION AS A BARRIER • RETAINING/SHIELDING WALLS FOR NOISE
REDUCTION
• THICK GLAZED STOREFRONT WALLS FOR PARAMETRIC ELEMENT •
ROOFING PANELS ARE ADJUSTED OVER CARRIERS(STEEL TRUSSES) AND THESE CARRIERS ROLL OVER THE STEEL RAILS WHICH ARE POWERED BY DC MOTORS.
THRUST RELEASING MECHANISMS ARE INTEGRATED INTO RETRACTABLE ROOF AMPHITHEATRE OR WE CAN SAY THAT IT WORKS ON THRUST RELEASING MECHANISM
