REQUIREMENTS Location & Size: The Site is 2 acres of Land Parcel adjacent (overlooking) to Eco park - a 400 acres of Lake front Ecological and Leisure Park in New Town, Rajarhat. The Park has average footfall of over 10,000 people every day.

These are some causes for the growth of slum in India; 1.Rural-urban migration: 2. Urbanization: 3.Poor housing planning: 3.Poverty: 4.Politics: 5.Natural disasters: According to the above points listed slums are the result of poverty, unhygienic environment and reason for many diseases, decrease in (GNI) gross national income, and many more issues which leads to negative results.
Impact of slums
There are major consequences, it can impact the national and regional economy, as it is burdened with high transaction costs. Increase in transportation expenditures because of inadequate infrastructure, diseases are caused and is burden on urban dwellers it can also affect the urban housing markets and potentially impact on country’s economy and it makes country’s economy less worldwide. Finally ,the existing condition of slum and their struggles which they face are been recognized ethically and globally too.
Anomaly of slum rehabilitation programs UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF - PROF Most of the government , non-government (NGO’S) organizations have tried and proposed many programs to improve /develop slum areas. some are been listed below, • Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY) • Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY) • Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) • Integrated low cost sanitation (ILCS) • affordable housing in partnership (AMP) But in most of the places it was not successful and was failed to achieve this .it’s necessary to understand the factors and requirements which are basic for slum dwellers.
When compared with both the examples DHARAVI • This plan didn’t considered the
basic theories of architecture, which is responsible for open space hierarchy,circulation system, climatic orientation or built form. • spaces alloted or planned didn’t have any kind of concern towards sense of community or any social concern. • Landscape was given importance wherein most of the spaces were occupied by builtup spaces. lighting and sewage facilities were propesed which didn’t match their standard, which increased the cost of living.

INDORE • Specially focused on including the theories of architecture and which is playing major role in proper hierarchy of space, circulation system, climatic orientation. • Spaces are divided with respect to the income groups wich in result, is the improvement for occupation and creats the sense of community around them. • Landscape played important role in creating hygiene and proper sewage lines. Cost efficient lighting and sewage facilities.
CONCLUSION Most of the government schemes are not succesfull, slum dwellers are not responding to the given proposal because of these points Cost of living, Convenience-business, Economics, occupation, Social factor, way of living, Place of adaptability, Improper Sense of community. Hence these things should be focused more and should be considered. Sustainable and suitable requirements should be provided, considering their local needs and improve their livelihood with help of financial or technical offered by government and non-governmental development projects. There is a point giving importance to country’s economy but its also important to have a concern abt the slum dwellers and provide housing considering some points ie, • Cost of living • Convenience • Economics, occupation • Social factor, way of living • Place of adaptability • Sense of community space. However it also suggests that the government should not specify rigid parameters within them where the surplus value can be exploited. Government should claim some control over development outcomes. This might make it possible to combine the strategy with other innovative housing-improvement practices, such as those undertaken in Ahmedabad and Indore.
