INTRODUCTION As a student I have always had a keen interest in exploration of ideas , as ideas can change our lives. Since my high school (Mayo College Girls School,Ajmer,Rajasthan,India).I have actively taken part in various art and craft sessions .It was here were I discovered my talent towards creativity , art , design development and co- curricular activities like music and dance . Clearing into National Institute of Fashion Technology, broaden my view towards design . It made my path to improve my design sensibility and a better understanding of cultures as a competitive designer. With this post graduation course I am looking forward on gaining experience in life and design. I feel that this course is required at this stage of my study ,as a great learning experience towards design also socially getting to know more people in this field exchanging ideas and exploring new ones. I strongly belief it would help me develop my skills and design languages ,thus empowering my knowledge and intellectual practice as a textile designer. If you want to be born in this world you strive to be the best into a bigger world . If given the hunting ground to focus on projects , that I can apply my talents and experience to, I am confident that I will generate original work and emerge with a self- knowledge of potential to be a successful designer .

HUNT FOR MY INSPIRATION & HISTORICAL RESEARCH Mughal art and architecture : Mughal architecture is the architectural style developed by the Mughals in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries throughout the extent of their empire in the Indian subcontinent. It is an amalgam of Islamic, Persian, and Indian architecture. Examples of this style can be found in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. After the Mughals arrived in India, a great cultural growth occurred in many different forms of art, such as music, visual art, architecture, and literature. India was already a country with many different cultural aspects, but the Mughals, expanded the realm of art even further. This Mughal art and architecture was considered an Indo-IslamicPersian style. The Mughal period was one of great splendour, and has left its mark on India in the form of many lovely buildings, wherein Islamic and Hindu motifs often blended in perfect unity. The most noticeable contribution that the Mughals made in art was architecture, because they left so many great mausoleums, mosques, and palaces. Perhaps the most famous piece of architecture even in the world today is the Taj Mahal, which is a mausoleum that was built by the Mughal monarch Shah Jahan to entomb his third wife’s remains after she died in childbirth.

OBSERVATION SHAPES AND FORM As I begin to collect ,my visuals I also have to simultaneously start with observation which essentially for me is : what is the aspect in each visual that inspires me the most ?. This was the stage where I began to visually imagine the look of my collection in terms of style , shape and form of my motifs . Keeping the traditional essence alive , my challenge here was to give my inspiration a complete contemporary look and yet keep it rooted in the Mughal era . Thus keeping this in my mind I began to extract out as many ideas and forms . I want my collection to be very crisp and delicate in the same time , therefore I began to observe all my visuals in terms of its essence, aesthetics , shapes of pillars, tombs, the curvilinear lines that were a key element used in those motifs . Keeping the delicate aspect , a hint of floral essence and the very neat line forms and segregation of space from these visuals of that time . These are few things I had kept in mind before I actually began to extract out my motifs and patterns for my initial concepts .
13
WEEK 4 STAGE 1 MONDAY 7;10:13 I now slowly start to extract out my art works and begun with brain storming about my ideas and initial concepts . I want to give a new look and contemporary essence of Mughal art . I also began to extract out different aspects and forms from each picture . Thus deriving out each aspect like colour , shape , lines , forms , essence , balance of space and motifs.

INFLUENCE OF THE ART IN INDIA India’s languages, religions, dance, music, architecture, food, and customs differ from place to place within the country. The Indian culture, often labelled as an amalgamation of several cultures, spans across the Indian subcontinent and has been influenced by a history that is several millennium old. Many elements of India’s diverse cultures, such as Indian religions, yoga, and Indian cuisine, have had a profound impact across the world.

METHOD AND PROCESS WEEK 4 STAGE 1 TUESDAY 8:10:13 Alan told me to further expand on my research and extract out certain shapes / forms /motifs/sketches in terms of my initial concepts. He also suggested me a few methods I could use to make my collection work and thus make my designs through printing as a media . We spoke about cad printing and as well as block printing as a media, further he also suggested me about the the lazer block carving machine through which I could probably try and extract out my designs and make design blocks. I feel it might not be as practical as it sounds . Nevertheless I will look onto experimenting by using the lazer cutting machine and make my own blocks to execute my designs . As I am very keen on using block printing as an technique for making my collection. I intend to use hand block printing and screen printing as a process to execute my designs . Hand block printing as a technique is known in India and is performed by skilled artisans. This process, though considered by some to be the most artistic, is the earliest, simplest and slowest of all methods of printing. In this process, a design is drawn on, or transferred to, a prepared wooden block. A separate block is required for each distinct colour in the design. A block cutter carves out the wood around the heavier masses first, leaving the finer and more delicate work until the last so as to avoid any risk of injuring it during the cutting of the coarser parts. When finished, the block presents the appearance of flat relief carving, with the design standing out.

LOOK As I begin to collect , my visuals and observe them , I am now able to clearly vision my collection and how my designs would be executed into garments . As discussed with Alan I began to collect some reference pictures regarding the type of shapes and garments I would want to work upon. Thus would make it easy for me to define the look I want to create .The aroma of mughal aesthetics shown in terms of motifs and patterns . I also want my silhouettes to be very traditional and yet retain to todays trends . This was the stage where I began to imagine the first look of collection in terms of style , shape and silhouette. I want my collection to be very crisp and delicate in the same time , and the elegance of traditional Indian wear . Indian costumes seen today are an out come of nearly four thousand years of history . Showing a hint of embellishment and adding details on necklines and cuffs. My entire silhouette inspiration is based upon traditional Indian costume , using long drapes over the head ,overly large fitted sleeves and traditional drapes .

WEEK 4 STAGE 1 THURSDAY 10:10:13 Working on drawings and extracting out forms and shapes from my set of chosen pictures I just feel I need to make it all in a very contemporary way and yet retain the elegance and Mughal essence alive . Made about a significant types of motifs on paper .I feel I should simultaneously also think of scanning them on to the computer so that they can be cropped and edited in my own style . WEEK 4 STAGE 1 FRIDAY 11;10:13 I worked all through the night drawing as many forms and shapes I could extract out from my inspiration .I feel I should just keep it in line art form . I just want my aesthetics to blend in with my theme ‌ !

WEDNESDAY 16:10:13 My first try on the software which began today , I have been constantly struggling on this software and the only solution to all this is see online tutorials for adobe illustrator which aren’t so very helpful . Alan wants me to scan all of my drawings and edit then on illustrator ( this is so stressful ) .As I was new to the software and it was a great challenge for me to make my repeats on illustrator, nevertheless he suggested and sort of convinced me to use illustrator and that it would be great to even explore the software as it would be of a great help to me . I was so far so good , but knew illustrator was gonna be tough. I guess ill have to attend the twilight classes with Kerry! There isn’t any other way out . WORKING ON ILLUSTRATOR When I began to start my initial concepts , I faced way to many obstacles in tackling down with the software(adobe illustrator). My challenge was just explore as much as I could onto the software as I was totally new to illustrator and my only way out was to face it . I literally sat for a stretch of hours to get my hands onto the software and that helped me further to make my repeats and patterns correct.

FRIDAY 18:10:13 Today has been the longest day ever since morning I had been struggling with illustrator . I have started to get a rough of how I can make repeats and patterns. But I need a hell lot of more practice and then I had my session with Helen , where we discussed about how we need to capture every detail into our logs even what ever we observe in terms of our design process .
