Welcome! Danish public libraries have a long history and plays a large part in Danish communities, both educational and for leisure. Like all Danish public libraries, Roskilde Library is free and for all, regardless of residency or nationality. We welcome all guests and users and do our best to service your various needs.

During the winter especially, there are many events at the library, also for English speakers. You can enjoy a book talk, join a tour of the library or come together with other newcomers and Danes at the expat dinners. This folder is meant as a little teaser, to whet your appetite and convince you to pay us a visit. Our motto is “Ask us anything – anytime”, so please do just that!

Ågerup Library, Gundsølillevej 2, Ågerup, 4000 Roskilde Phone 46 31 81 08 Opening hours with staff: Monday 15-20, Tuesday 10-13, Thursday 13-17. Opening hours without staff: Monday 8-15, Tuesday 8-10 and 13-20, Wednesdag 8-20, Thursday 8-13 and 17-20, Friday 8-20, Saturday and Sunday 8-16. Staff opening hours is in July and between Christmas and New Year replaced with opening hours without staff. The library is closed on Holidyas.

All Danish public libraries are municipal institutions run in accordance with the Danish Act on Library Services. The law governs public libraries nationwide and ensures a consistent level of service. Citizens can use any library they wish free of charge. Every year 600,000 people visit Roskilde Libraries and 500,000 visit www.roskildebib.dk. Roskilde Libraries have a collection of more than 731,000 items. More than 1 million items are circulated annually – more than half of these are books, but music, audio books, films and computer games are also popular. Roskilde Libraries is central library for the Zealand region and the island of Bornholm. Roskilde Libraries cooperate closely with 18 libraries in Region Zealand and have a series of obligations to these libraries, providing materials and advice, sharing experiences and training staff.

Roskilde Library has a large music section with cds, dvds (live concerts, opera, music courses and more) books, biographies and sheet music. And of course a staff dedicated to music. Whether you like classical, jazz, rock or the newest sub trance, you will find something for you.


Bring Your children

Read, look, listen and find

At the childrens section you can play, use the gaming consuls or computers and loose yourself in the many books in English, for toddlers to teenagers. We have other languages too.

At the library you will find many non-fiction books in English and newspapers not only in English, but fx Swedish, German, French, Arabic and more. We have a large section of English fiction, including audio books and comics, and a good selection of other languages. What we do not have, we can often order from another Danish library, free of charge for you.

There are many events during the year for children, theatre, music and crafts. In the summer the library uses the citys parks for big events for hundreds of children,- and their adults!

Help with it At our internet café you can work in peace and quiet or get help with it-problems from our supervisors. Here you can also scan, fax, copy and print in colour.

Self-service Once you are registered as a user of the library, you can order, renew and check your status online. And you can not only order materials from Roskilde Library but also from the nationwide database www.bibliotek.dk: You borrow and return the materials here at Roskilde Library as you would our material, free of charge for you.

Since Roskilde Library is also a Central library, we have more online resources than the average library. That means that you have access to many databases in English as well as Danish, and covering many subjects. If you live in Roskilde municipality and you are registered as a user of the library, you can access many of these databases from anywhere in the world – as long as you have internet! That means free access to services like: www.filmstriben.dk Download great films and documentaries www.bibzoom.dk Download all the music you left behind – and the new stuff. Plus films in many foreign languages

Book a librarian If you need a guided introduction of the library, help with a paper or just more information about a given subject, you can book a librarian. This means you have the full attention and service of a librarian to solve your problem and an hour to discuss the result, free of charge for you.

Meet n’ Study Bring your own laptop – Free wifi Use the library as your own study, by yourself or with fellow students. We have free WiFi if you want to use your own laptop or you can use our free computers, to Skype fx. The librarians are there to help you whether you are registered as a user of the library or not. Or you can just meet your friends or family here, you´re welcome to hang out in one of our cosy corners – and you can bring your own food and beverages.
