PDP Framework ď‚— This lesson framework helps teachers plan

and deliver effective lessons.

The stages of the framework are: ď‚— Pre- stage: ď‚— In PDP lesson the teacher starts with warming

up which is pre-reading or pre-listening. At this stage the tutor introduces the lesson to the learners and prepares them to what is coming.

So, at this stage the students become familiar with the topic, the language and essential vocabulary they will use during the lesson.

During stage: ď‚— During this stage, the students will do their

tasks in pairs or groups. Here, the teacher plays the role of a monitor who gives encouragement and guidance, but does not correct their language.

Post-stage:  At this stage the students’ comprehension of

the text–which they gained from working with the listening or reading text– is strengthened and extended into other areas (speaking or writing).

ESL Methodology

Let´s review…  Direct Method: The benefit of using this method is to immerse the

students in English.  Audio-Lingual:

For audiolinguism, language learning requires students to master the building blocks of the language and learn the rules they need to know to successfully combine these basic elements.

 Total Physical Response (TPR): is based, first and foremost, on

listening and this is linked to physical actions which are designed to reinforce comprehension of particular basic items.

ď‚— Communicative language teaching:

is to enable learners to communicate effectively and appropriately in the various situations they would likely find themselves in ď‚— Task-based language learning: It is an activity in which students use language to achieve a specific outcome. The activity reflects real life and learners focus on meaning, they are free to use any language they want.

Learning another language  Why learn a language?  Travel:Speaking another language helps to

break down barriers.  Work and business: It can help you give an

added advantage in your career if you work for an international firm or company.

Do you speak…

ď‚— Music,

film, arts and culture If you like literature, fims or music from other countries, learning the language will help your appreciation and understanding. ď‚— For a challenge You can learn a language in short, bite-sized sessions and you'll enjoy a sense of satisfaction from achieving short-term goals.

Foreign languages

Why learn a foreign language? ď‚— Learning a foreign language is more than

just a boost to your CV or handy for travelling. It will make you smarter, more decisive and even better at English, says Anne Merritt.

GNOMIO Experience ď‚— It was a great experience for me, because In

today's society, online courses are widely used in colleges providing easy access to course materials, classroom discussions, and feedback to instructors.

Teaching and learning online

I believe that online education is a very good resource because…  Online teaching allows for 24/7 access to

class materials, online classrooms etc.  Online assignment posting areas provides a secure and time documented avenue for turning in assignments.  Online learning has the benefit of allowing instructors to focus on individual interactions with students.

As a conclusion, I think that online learning can be effective

But…  Online

courses gives more freedom, perhaps, more than a student can handle.  I think that the environment in a proper physical class is almost always more conducive for learning.  And there are a lot of chances for fraudulent practices.

Role: Online tutor  In my personal opinion, the success of a tutoring

session may depend on the level of comfort and connection among those involved.

 At the beginning of the designe of the

course, I didn’t want to spend all of my time on a computer. I know that I’m more likely to retain knowledge if I can apply it in the real world.

you’ll be encouraged to think outside the box and take charge of your own assignments

.

In reality, there’s a great deal of human interaction that goes on in a virtual classroom

.

ď‚— Gnomio was my first real experience with online

education, and it was life-changing. I was exposed to new ideas.

and a good professor will contact you if your grades drop and you aren’t attending lectures.  Online courses are just as intense and demanding as on-campus courses.  The important thing to remember is that online education is not necessarily the easy way out of a tough class.

Teaching online is a lot of work.  When I first started to think about teaching

online, I realized I had a lot to learn and do.  Online teaching does seem to take more time.  Although a lot of effort goes into planning the course and its web site.

Role: Online student ď‚— I have found that I struggle with time

management and would benefit from scheduled class meetings. ď‚— it was a little rough at the beginning to understand the instructions.

I could take it at my own pace  I liked the course because it was easier to

complete all of the work.  It allowed me to fit it into my schedule easily.  online learning requires discipline and time management skills.

Engagement  One of the hardest parts of online learning in

my experience was the lack of face-to-face interaction with my instructor and classmates.  I think, I'm not the only student who feels this way.  Completing this course made me realize that being a great online student takes practice.

If I do this again, I'll look for a class format that better fits my learning style

.

The key to a successful online course is accessibility ď‚— The

scheduling of chats, forums and assignments should also be considered. ď‚— Without specific assignments and due dates, a student never know whether or not something is due or even exactly what we should be doing.

Values and attitude toward online classes ď‚— Most students are not aware of the value of

good study skills to their success. ď‚— The first thing students must recognize is the benefit of good study habits.Â

Taking an online course should be more than sitting in front of a computer ď‚— Learning

happens through discussion, reflection, collaborative teamwork. ď‚— Students learn a great deal by explaining their ideas to others and by participating in activities in which they can learn from their peers.

Qualities needed for success in a online classroom ď‚— Encouraging

students to reach out to classmates with similar life circumstances can be a first step to building relationships in the online environment. ď‚— Students learn about one another, support each other through life stresses.

Think Twice Before Cheating in Online Courses

Do students do it more online than in traditional face-to-face courses? ď‚— As an open course, each student is coming

with a variety of goals and interests in mind.

My classroom experience ď‚— I must say I really enjoyed this experience

and learned a lot from older teachers. Every day was different. ď‚— This experience ensured me that teaching was a right choice for my career and now I am motivated to teach alone and put into practice all I learned at the college.

My First Teaching Experience  I’d like to talk about my first teaching

experience.  I had no experience of classroom teaching. So I was more than a little worried.  my lack of confidence was pretty natural but at that point I was super-scared to face my students.

Anyway, the appointed hour came and I had no choice but to go on.

I am very excited  I experienced many great moments while

teaching.  This experience as a teacher was a very challenging and exciting.  Mr. Ostorga asked me to stay around as we wait for the rest of the students.

To conclude‌  I have learnt a lot of things about the

University and the amount of work the teachers need to do in order to carry out a successful class.

TTT (Teacher talking time)  Teacher talk time (TTT) refers to how much

the teacher talks during a lesson.  1. A high TTT may be a result of lack of experience.  2. Lack of confidence may be another cause.  3. Some teachers fear silence and think that silence means that students are not learning.

Reducing the amount teachers talk in the classroom is one of the most frequent issues teachers deal with throughout a training course.

What good things does minimal teacher talk bring? ď‚— 1. The teacher has more chances of

monitoring students' performance. ď‚— 2. Students are actively involved in the

lesson. ď‚— 3. More student participation.

Education is based around the students and what they are able to do

TTT should be stopped ď‚— The best teachers are those that are

reflective. They reflect on their actions and the responses to their actions by the students.

Conclusions

 I would use facts as a starting point, not an end

point; I would ask “why” questions, look at all sides and encourage students to predict what will happen next.

Great teachers engage students  I would ask questions frequently to make sure

students are following along.  I would try to engage the whole class, and don’t allow a few students to dominate the class.  I would keep students motivated with varied, lively approaches.

High Expectations  I would expect every one of the students to

work hard and achieve things that haven’t mastered before.  I believe that all of the students can learn, that all of the students should achieve real progress every single class.

And definitely, I would know the students well: their individual interests, backgrounds, motivations and learning styles.
