Vauxhall MOKKA

CAR REVIEW BY TED MACAULEY

The hectic confusion that overshadows the feud between car manufacturers to control and financially benefit from their input of the most desirable and economic medium motors is about to be eased with the arrival on the scene of a winner, to my mind, of a challenger. It comes in the enticing shape of the brand new Vauxhall Mokka scheduled to arrive in our showrooms early in March. And I confidently forecast a widespread keen interest and likely buying spree among those looking for a bargain because it is just that. Its good looks give it an edge. The front-end styling is refreshed. And a new Vauxhall badge is featured. The builders have dramatically reduced the drag with a clever aerodynamic change to smooth the air flow. It is clean, bold and minimalist with a compact shape - and its cabin is as comfy as can be. There is an agility about it that enables that lucky driver-come-owner to manoeuvre into the tightest parking places. A state of the art navigation system guides you to your intended destinations - even revealing all the close-by electric charging points at the merest touch of a button if you have chosen to buy the electric version over the petrol or diesel engines... every one of them of absolute quality, refinement and value for your hard-earned lolly. My preference is the snappy looking 1.4 Elite with its five doors and four wheel drive with a respectable 0-62 mph return for your accelerator tap-dance in about nine seconds and treating you to 40-odd mpg. It is priced at £26,560. And, by the way, all three Mokka engines are turbocharged. There is not much more I can say without apparently going well over the top in suspicious praise. But, believe me, it is well worth a try to see if you agree with my assessment.
