ducation starts at a young age and things we learn at this age affects our adult life. That's why we aimed to raise awareness for a healthy future. Inspired by the perceived need, we found disturbing data: Only 8.5 percent of adult citizens of Serbia have all teeth. Even 9.3 percent of citizens of Serbia does not have any teeth. Dentists believe that this statistics are result of catastrophic dental hygiene. A large number of Serbian citizens in general do not use a toothbrush and toothpaste. Only a few know the proper brushing technique. In the mouth, there are more than 500 different species of bacteria. The consequence of not having good oral hygiene is the occurrence of dental caries, periodontal disease, bad breath... However, in addition to numerous dental problems, people who do not maintain enough good oral hygiene at a higher risk of heart disease. They are at risk of penetration of bacteria from the mouth into the bloodstream. Most problems, however, can be avoided by regular oral hygiene. Looking into this problem, we found out that this problem is not specific only for Serbia. It is the same all over the world with more or less same number of people. Therefore we decided to make things better. Through interactive workshops, ageappropriate to children, in a very interesting way, we wanted to emphasize the importance of hand washing, and proper dental hygiene. Doctors of medicine and dentistry along with kids practiced how to properly brush teeth, with a catching fraise "How it rains (for brushing the upper teeth), how the grass grows (for remembering how proper to brush lower teeth)" and how important is soap to fight bacteria. As an incentive and encouragement for children to apply knowledge gained in the workshops in every day routine we gave a gift to each child - personal hygiene kit ( consist of toothbrush, toothpaste and soap). It is believed that one of the reasons of discouraging statistics mentioned at the beginning, regarding dental health in Serbia, is pathological fear of dentist, that leads to avoiding visits to the dentist and dental treatments, until it is too late and nothing can be done except to surgically remove a tooth. The best way to avoid this is to create a childhood habit of going to the dentist. We planned to organize “First visit to the dentist, that would not involve any painful procedures, but would use to get children acquainted with the dentist, clinic, dental chair, etc.

Rotaract club Beograd organized workshops in five orphanages for 210 children. We got a donation of toothbrushes and tooth pastas for most of workshops. For the workshops that we could not find donation Rotaract club bought dental kits. In the end, we just want to thank all Rotaract clubs who have joined the project and organized workshops for children. Together we did a lot...
